Our route home was going to take us right through Claxton so I knew I had to stop at the Claxton Fruit Cake factory. I love fruit cake and Claxton is one of the best. I parked out front and walked into what was a small retail area. They had most of the varieties and sizes available, but in small quantities since it is now the off season. I picked up a nice 2 lb. box. I had a nice conversation with the gentleman behind the counter. Found out he and I graduated from High School in the same year. Said he'd been working there for 60 years. They've been in business since 1910 and have some cool historic photos hanging on the wall. He invited me to come back in the fall when the factory would be running and he would give me a tour.

It's just darn good fruit cake that's been around for a long time! From Claxton, GA, the Fruite Cake Capital of the World!

I have always enjoyed their fast and friendly service. The fruitcake makes a great snack any time of the year.

The public store here is a little counter off to the side of what I'm guessing is a big building where they make fruitcake.

We promptly got sat by the lovely staff working. We sat outside, I ordered an Aperol spritz and my husband got a Bloody Mary. All of our drinks were delicious, reasonably priced. The Bloody Mary wasn't spicy (although a table next to us was complaining it was...), and the Hugo spritz was SO refreshing! They for the fresh mint from their herbs out front! Only complaint was we prefer our espresso martinis to be mostly espresso heavy, and this one was more cream heavy. We ordered the Brussels, country breakfast (subbed cheese grits instead of pancakes because we're gluten free) and got a side of fresh fruit. It was so much food. We didn't finish it all! The grits were nicely seasoned and cheesy. Brussels were super crispy and not drenched in grease or sauce. Eggs were nice and salty, potatoes were fried nicely. Everything was great. We would love to come back for lunch or dinner - especially happy hour. It wasn't too loud and we felt there was plenty of seating.
