One time I tried arriving 20 minutes late, and still had to wait a similar length of time before my order was brought out of the kitchen! The great thing about this place is that it's open until very late, which does attract the post-pub/club crowd, but that they have a BYOB policy, which not only keeps costs down (cocktails are way too expensive!), but discourages too much crazy drunkenness, so the atmosphere isn't as crazy as the kebab shops right down Guildhall Walk pubs. The staff there are quite friendly and always get my order right. I'm vegetarian and in other restaurants I often feel bad that I have to send an order back because they accidentally put meat in it, but this never happens here. Like most Indian restaurants, they have a large vegetarian section, and are quite good at adjusting the spice level to your taste. The decor is quite elegant yet exotic, and is a great way to end or start a night out.

The waiters are so friendly and in a genuine way too. The menu is not a traditional Indian one. South Indian food is not common across the UK, but the South Indian food here is so much tastier than normal Indian food. The curry sources have much more flavour, and are much more creamy. Naan breads, especially Keema, are really good here, and must accompany any meal. They also serve Cobra beer, which is a very fine beer to go with an Indian meal. They also do takeaway service, but they don't do delivery. There is also a bigger sister restaurant in the city centre, where they have a great lunchtime buffet. Since leaving Southampton for London and abroad, I have not found a better curry house anywhere in the UK! Go there!

My unmemorable encounter with one of these (I forget which) was disappointing. My girlfriend had a lot more luck with a sizzling clay oven cooked chop of lamb. This is not a bad restaurant, if it were a little cheaper I would give it three stars. As a takeaway it will probably serve you quite adequately. It's quite possibly even the best in Winchester.

I know of Londoners that travel down to Selsey and stay the night in a B&B just to have a meal here. It is a well established restaurant and the owners and staff are well known in the town. I personally have know the manager for over 10 years, he is a very nice guy. The only downer about the New Magna is that there is no immediate parking, but there is a free car park just around the corner in East Street. Enjoy..... I do often!!!
