Decent location, friendly accommodating staff, great restaurant, priced appropriately. My gf and I spent about five nights at this property and were pleased with our stay. They were completing several upgrades to the property, and we managed to see the almost finished product of their new bar which looked very nice. The location of the hotel is a bit away from the nightlife of Temple Bar Area which is good and bad depending on your age and what you are looking for. Being in my early forties I think it was a good option for us as we do not want to hear noise at nighttime and we are usually in bed by 10pm. Depending on the locations you plan on visiting this may or may not be a good option for you. The closest museum my gf and I wanted to go to was the EPIC (The Irish Emigration Museum) and that is very close to the hotel. Also, there is the Jeanie Johnson Tall Ship exhibit that is a small walk you can tour as well. This is the ship that many people used to emigrate away from Ireland during the potato famine. Before booking see if the areas you plan to visit are nearby and plan accordingly. As always people SYOY!!! read more

Breakfast buffet is very good. Among the best as far as hotel restaurants are concerned. Room is nice, clean and offers good shelving for storage. It is nice the hotel gives you 2 large bottles of water per day rather than nickel and diming for every little thing. Hotel gym was both good and bad. We spent three nights at the Clayton as part of a tour group. It was clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly, attentive and responsive. Our standard room was larger than the usual European hotel rooms, with double bed AND a single one. No HVAC - just a radiator that has no room control. We called, and received a space heater. In-room appliances worked well: kettle (with instant coffee and tea bags); blow dryer; safe and television. The towels were fresh and absorbent. Housekeeping was prompt and thorough. We dined at the onsite restaurant too. Service was great. Food was good. Wines were good. Cocktails were mediocre. Bigger city-priced. Within walking distance of various attractions. We are so appreciative of the staff who let us check in early. After a long international flight, we arrived into Dublin & were desperate for a nap. Those few hours of rest in a comfortable hotel room ensured we weren't zombies our first day out exploring. Clayton Hotel Cardiff Lane is not in the city centre but many main attractions are either walking distance or a quick Uber ride away. By car, it's five minutes to Trinity College; 10 minutes to the Temple Bar neighborhood; & a speedy 20 minutes to Dublin Airport. Hotel is near the beautiful Samuel Beckett Bridge. I liked the peace & quiet of the area but book elsewhere if you're looking to be in the middle of all the action with more dining/bar options. Our room had one single bed & one double (it was the only room type available when I booked) & was spacious enough for the two of us. Plenty of shelves, desk space, & overall flat surfaces for our belongings. Temperature-wise in mid-September, we were perfectly comfortable both at night & in the daytime without access to a thermostat in the room. We were supplied with boxed water daily, had a vending machine on our floor, & a Starbucks next door so caffeine or snacks were never out of reach. Surprised to see such low reviews at this location. While I didn't choose to stay here (my tour company arranged the hotels) I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! The rooms felt large for two people and were comfortable. The bathroom was very large too! I'm from California and didn't understand why the shower didn't have a tub (maybe it's an European thing) so our bathroom floor was soaked every time we took a shower.... But besides that everything was great! Not to mention, the offerings at the restaurant were delicious. The breakfast literally had so many options. No photos of the room, but see photos from some of our meals! read more

Stayed here for a family celebration. Put some gifts for the celebration in to the room fridge. Our flights were changed and we rushed out, stupidly forgetting them. Rang the hotel as soon as we realised. They said nothing was left and the relevant staff had 'not found anything'. Dishonesty is always disappointing. An okay hotel close to the Grand Canal Docks area in Dublin. Check-in is at 4 pm. I got there around 10 am since I landed around 8:30 am. My room wasn't ready so I finally checked in around 2 pm. They do have a kiosk to check-in and check-out which was useful. The room was large and spacious, but hot... no AC, just a small loud fan that blows hot air. The window cracks open just a bit, but not enough to get any fresh air. Large king size bed in room 445, the sheets and comforter could be more comfortable. Door slams each time someone closes it. Their front desk wasn't very helpful - wanted to order room service, but their app, which you scan a QR code on the mirror in your room, kept saying my credit card wasn't connected to the room. Went to the lobby and they told me to order from the restaurant or at the bar... my room was pre-paid with a credit card. The fitness center opens at 6:30 am and you need to sign in, afterwards you get a pin to access it. Very old weights, treadmills, and equipment. The pool seemed quite popular with the guests staying there. Average Irish buffet style breakfast and on the bland side. Line starts before 7 am. read more

I am SO GLAD we found this gem near the center of Dublin!! Our room was immaculate, service was five star throughout our stay. After a very long flight from Boston, via Iceland, our room was ready and we checked in immediately. The staff is friendly and more than helpful. We had full and delicious traditional Irish Breakfast included in our room fee. The food was excellent. Again, every member of the staff was very helpful. On checkout, which was rushed due to an issue with our flight, desk staff had us out in no time, called us a cab, and one super nice young man helped get my mobility scoocter into the car. This hotel really made our trip to Dublin, my first in 20 years and my grandchilds first ever. Thanks so much to the staff that works daily tomake this such a great place. read more

Unfortunately I tried to like this hotel. Customer service is super basic. Nothing to remember. The cleaning service is awful. For two days house keeping left trash in the hallway of our floor. The breakfast is absolutely horrible. Maybe because I'm American I was really expecting at least some breakfast potatoes. I really wish the cleaning service was better. They just really pulled the covers back and didn't change the sheets. I wouldn't stay here again, there is zero I mean really not one wow factor about this location. Lobby gives the look that it's nice. Room had a queen and two makeshift twin beds. One is bigger than the other and one wasn't made (stripped and sheets on top when we arrived). There's no where to get water except going to the attached bar to get bottles filled. Room wasn't cleaned one day we were out. Small TV very limited channels. No thermostat. You have to book times to use pool. Gym is big and legit, but hours limited. Breakfast is a rip off. Drink machines not working, clean stack of plates were dirty. Food was horrible. I had the pleasure to stay at this hotel for five days in early June. If you don't mind a little stroll to get to the city center, I can highly recommend this hotel right across the CCD. The front desk is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The rooms provide ample space and are clean and equipped with a tea kettle (something you rarely find here in Germany). The breakfast leaves absolutely nothing to be desired. And the next pub is where all pubs in Dublin seem to be - right on the next corner. read more

My DH, baby DD, and I stayed at this hotel for 1 week while my husband was working in Dublin. The hotel is located further from the city centre. It's a 15 minute walk to Trinity College, and perhaps a 25-30 minute walk to Temple Bar/Grafton Street. It's along the Docklands which is convenient for getting to EPIC Museum, Jeanne Johnston ship, or if you're working in the tech offices in that region. The hotel room is on the bigger side for European hotels. We requested a crib for our DD, which was basically a pack n play. My biggest complaint is that they do not change the linens unless you request it. They also do not tell you that they do not change the linens. The room service food is terrible. We ordered stir fry dishes and it was completely saturated in sauce and salt to the point that it was inedible. I regret ordering the food there when there are so many good restaurants nearby. The docklands area is undergoing major redevelopment. So there is so much noise from construction that you can hear from your room. It consistently disturbed DD's sleep, as well as mine. The front desk staff was welcoming, and tried to assist me. read more

I encountered a few really lovely staff during my 3 night stay at the Clayton, so I hate to generalize, but the customer service here is laughably bad. Located about 30 minutes walking from the city center, the location is not ideal for tourists. There is no public transportation in this area, so unless you enjoy a lot of walking, be prepared to spend €€€ on taxis. My initial impression of the hotel was good. The lobby is a bit noisy and there is really only seating in the upstairs lounge area, but it is comfortable and the WiFi works well. Lots of outlets. Our room was nothing special, but certainly a step above average. Premium linens, comfortable mattress, spacious additional seating area, large bathtub. No temperature control in the room, which is always kept very hot (I guess that's better than too cold?) Clean, minimalist decor. Complimentary newspapers and little boxes of chocolate outside the door each day were a nice touch. On my first day at the hotel, I asked one of the receptionists if I was able to exchange money there. She said yes, and asked me to wait 10 minutes while she verified the rates. 10 minutes later, she said their system is down and they cannot change money today. I asked again the next day, and was told they do not change money here at all and that I should try a place in the city center. Okay. On my final evening at the Clayton, I had to depart at 3am to catch an early flight home to Los Angeles. The internet told me that there are local buses running every 30 minutes from a bus stop right outside the hotel. So, I waited, and waited (about 30 mins), in 30 degree weather, and no bus came. I went back into the hotel and asked the young man working for some help. "You can take a taxi which will be €30, or you can wait more. The buses run 24 hours, one will come." The Dublin airport is only a 15 minute drive away, so spending €30 when I could spend €5 seemed foolish. I asked him to please help me figure out a reliable bus option that would depart within the next hour and he rudely replied that he could print me out a timetable, but otherwise didn't know what to tell me. "The busses don't run on time. Maybe cross the bridge and wait over at that bus stop. Or just pay for a taxi." Yeah, I would pay for a taxi if you guys would exchange my cash. The complete lack of concern or interest in actually helping a woman with an upcoming international flight was appalling. Shoutout to the old lady in the lobby who watched the whole thing go down and called him a dickhead. Avoid. read more

The hotel is beautiful, but there are several issues I found extremely disappointing considering the cost. When checking in the front desk wanted to put a hold of 200 euros on my card in case I decided to eat at the restaurant, drink at the bar or use the vending machines. This was not mentioned when I booked and I insisted it not be done. There is no air conditioning here. The lack of air conditioning wouldn't be an issue except you can't have the windows open due to all the construction in the area. It's literally right outside my window. The location may be great if you're here for business, but if you're here for leisure, not so much. For the price, this place is not worth it. :-( read more

Last day of a lovely 11 day CIE tour of Scotland and Ireland. We have been through 3 countries and stayed in 7 hotels. This one recently jumped to the worst after a shockingly rude experience from the porters. My sister and I are traveling on the tour with hiking backpacks. Nothing is in the paperwork about travelers using wheeled luggage only as portage is included in the trip. The porter from the Clayton Hotel (our last of 7) just dragged my bag down the hall from the waist strap and told me at the door "you're lucky I brought that up here". Our luggage has never been an issue elsewhere, and there is no requirement to use 'wheeled bags' only for the portage so I was absolutely shocked by this behavior at the end of our great trip. It's left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth after what has been lovely trip. Too bad Dublin, you've let me down once again. read more

Very good hotel. Great pool and jacuzzi, great food! Everyone seemed very nice and gave all their attention when needed. My only suggestion is: if you plan on doing outside of the city tours, which leave the city early in the morning, do not sign up for the breakfast for a lower rate. We ended up paying for two days that we were not able to get breakfast (we thought that by not being at the restaurant they would not charge us, but they do). Aside from that, I would definitely come back to this hotel next time I am in Dublin (it is close to everything! 20 min walk from Temple Bar, to have an idea, plus close to many bus stops and the LUAS). read more

We're spending 4 nights in Dublin, and we're having a wonderful time! They even upgraded us to one of their executive guest suites. It's perfect since we're celebrating a newly earned Master's Degree. Once they heard about the degree, they dropped off a complimentary bottle of red wine and chocolates. The food and service are amazing, and anytime a question arises, they're very accommodating and always have great answers. 10/10 - We will definitely stay here again. The bar and cafe just above the lobby of the Maldron Hotel, now the Clayton, is a nice spot to grab a drink with friends, before heading out from the hotel, or for a meeting. The couches are fairly comfortable but not great for a long sit. The wifi was a bit spotty as well. the beer and drink menu was fairly small without much more than coffee, tea, and Guinness. Service was very friendly but a little slow as the beer took a noticeably long time to arrive and had to be corrected. The space is nice, but can be a little noisy from the lobby. read more

I stayed here August 2017. I have no issue with the hotel. The hotel rooms are spacious. No problem with staff. Hotel does not have airconditioning. If it is hot, you can request a fan from the front desk. The room has no microwave or fridge. Wifi is great. Breakfast place has everything, in a buffet style. Hotel can be reached from the airport by riding a bus. I stayed here because the hotel is close to the Convention Center. But, I find the hotel is far from the interesting places in Dublin. it is far from Trinity College, from the Temple Bar, etc. There are limited stores and restaurants in the immediate area. This hotel is located in somewhat the business area. As I've said, I have no issue with the hotel. the hotel is satisfactory, however, if I'll travel back to Dublin, I'll choose a hotel closer to the Temple Bar or busier places in Dublin. read more

I am staying at the Clayton now for a few days and there have been several major disappointments and issues: 1) There is NO air conditioning in the hotel. The room was very warm and there was no way to control the temperature. When I called the front desk, I was told to "open the window." Unfortunately, the window opens only an inch or so, which did not help at all. The staff might try to tell you that Dublin is a temperate climate and thus needs no AC but, in fact, it had been warm before I arrived, and heat got trapped into the rooms. Much too warm to sleep at night! 2) A loud drilling began shortly before 10 AM in an adjoining room. Very disturbing. I was never told there would be work going in in the hotel. 3) Cleaning staff knocked on my door despite the "Still sleeping" sign hanging on the door knob. When I opened the door and told her I was still sleeping she had tried to say that the sign was not on the door correctly. Ridiculous. Overall, a very disappointing experience. Not Impressed, very disappointed. We were staying at this hotel November 12-19 because my husband was speaking at a conference. While the hotel knew that many of us were flying in internationally, you would think they would have accommodated arrivals. We had to wait hours before the room was ready. The showers here are really jacked up. We travel all over the world, and have no problem figuring out different types of showers, they are pretty straightforward. We finally got it figured out, the showers were the running joke with all of the speakers. We were telling our cab driver about the shower and he said the Clayton was a remodeled Holiday in (the remodel fun must have ran out so they skipped the showers). One of the speakers kept complaining about is freezing cold shower. We kept telling him how it operated but it still didn't work. We finally told him to complain to management. It ended up that the shower was broken. Many of us would hang out in the lobby bar. Service there was horrible. One of the speakers ordered a dinner and they totally forgot about her order. We were trying to eat dinner and get out of the hotel, there wasn't enough time to cook what she had originally ordered, so she had to order something else. The worst part about this hotel is absolutely disgusting. I was in the room while the maid came in to clean it. She had a rag she was using to clean the room. She took the glasses that were provided in the room to the bathroom. She rinsed out the glasses and walked out with them one at a time drying them off with the same rag she had just got done cleaning with, GROSS! As a person that has a lower immune system and cannot risk germs/bacteria this was totally unacceptable. But from anyone's point of view this is disgusting. When we stay at Marriott hotels the cleaning people have a cart with fresh glasses and didn't notice any of the cleaning people with glasses on their carts. When I said something to the people at the front desk about the glasses they told me that what the maid did wasn't their norm. That was a straight out lie since nobody had glasses on their carts. This is not a hotel I would personally choose to not stay at again. If after all of this you think you would still consider it I recommend doing what I did, ask the front desk for get to go cups. read more
