The morning breakfast buffet had a lot of different foods such as breads, pastries, overnight oats, eggs, sausage and bacon and amazing coffee. The place is really nice inside with lots of updates and the trendy decor you'd expect from a Moxy. I've stayed in a few Moxy hotels in NYC and enjoyed my stays. The rooms are always small but economical with plenty of storage for such a small space. That is exactly how this Moxy was, too. The bed was very comfy and the TV had the best selection of channels I experienced from any hotel in Ireland during my stay. There's a desk that folds out from the wall, a small stool, a nook with a seat, and hooks for you to hang your clothes. I really appreciated the lighting since it wasn't just overwhelming overhead lighting. The location is unbeatable as well. Right in the middle of Cork overlooking the river. There's plenty of great bars and restaurants on that side of the river but even more fun places to explore across the way. Everything I wanted to eat and drink was no more than a 15 minute walk away. The reason for the four stars is that the shower, while very nice upon first look, leaked water onto the floor. This was one of the only hotels I saw in Ireland which had a full glass shower door which closed (hallelujah!) but it somehow STILL leaked water onto the ground. Upon brief inspection, I believe the cause may be some sort of construction error. The glass didn't seem to be properly fitted. The other issue I had was with the bathroom door. It's one of those annoying barn doors which slides and this particular door would get stuck and jam if closed all the way. Being alone in the room, this wasn't a make or break issue but if I was traveling with alongside someone, I'd definitely want that door to shut properly and I definitely wouldn't want to be concerned with how I'd get back out. The bar downstairs is really cute and I found all the staff members to be absolutely delightful. From check-in to cocktails to asking questions about the bus system and mailing a postcard, every single staff member was so friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed my time spent with the bartenders, Olivia and Chris, who provided great drinks and even greater conversation. Being that it's a new hotel, I'm guessing there's just a few kinks that need to be worked out in terms of construction. I'd probably still return despite those issues. A very cute B&B just outside Cork city. Our initial room unfortunately smelled like cigarette smoke…read more(even though this is a non-smoking B&B) but they accommodated with a room change so we actually ended up in a family room with a double bed and two twins! Haha. The breakfast is 9 Euro and you get a choice of full Irish Breakfast, poached eggs, or scrambled eggs -- which come with bacon and sausage and toast and tea as well. A LOT of food, and it was quite good. There's also a little buffet station with cereals and cheeses and a bit of smoked salmon. I think it was a pretty good value! The only unfortunate thing was how hot the dining room got because of the sun shining directly into it. But Ireland usually doesn't have the heat wave we experienced while there so I imagine that's not a frequent issue. The rooms are old-fashioned but fairly well-kept, and again, the staff is all very friendly. Bathrooms are nice, they provide you with (gasp!) real shampoo and conditioner. The bathtubs are weirdly narrow for my big American butt, but the shower pressure was good. It's not the height of luxury, but it was a very comfortable way to spend a couple of nights. Oh, and they have a deal with one of the taxi companies that will take you straight into the city center for 7 Euro (other taxis will cost you 9 - 10)!

A very hotel-like B&B, with a lovely interior and fairly friendly staff…read more This location is situated less than a 4 minute drive from Cork city centre. Near two service garages and a bus stop, it is fairly conveniently located. That said, it's still about a 35 minute walk and 7.5 Euro taxi ride for two. The B&B has free parking and they give you a key to the front door and to your bedroom. Checking-in was relatively informal. You signed a guest card, gave them your reg, and that was that. If you pre-purchased breakfast (more on that later), it is served in a warm, but small, dining room and conservatory between 7 and 10 am. The room was quite pleasant. It overlooked a lovely garden. Flat screen television, sofa, kettle with UHT milk, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate, and two complimentary kit kat bars. The bathroom was modern and large, with a socket for your razor and attached hair dryer. It was a full-house, so I was expecting noise between the walls and ceiling. There was none. So, either the other guests were quite quiet or the walls block sound. The bed was a comfortable double, that had 4 pillows. One strange thing was that what appeared to be a duvet on the bed, was actually just a plastic-like curtain which matched the curtains on the wall. It felt like plastic and underneath there was no fabric. This quickly slide to the floor. Beneath that was a standard blanket and sheet. The bathroom seemed to have an ant problem. Ants were coming in through the cracks. I was washing my hands and I saw one appear from a crack, followed by his co-worker. Later on, I would be brushing my teeth to be coupled with a sensation of an ant crawling up like ankle. Fortunately, I didn't notice this problem in the bed. Breakfast was ok. It was friendly and sunny in the dining area. Thing is, I don't think I'd pre-buy breakfast again. The full Irish felt more like a half Irish. The portions were relatively small, especially the hashbrown. The wee triangle of the hashbrown was, and I'm not joking, smaller than my thumb. It was like a baby hashbrown. In addition to that, the black pudding wasn't very good. Not certain what brand they were using, but it was over-gritty and yuck. There was also a buffet you could avail of, with several different types of juice which you could pour into glasses that were only slightly bigger than shot glasses. While this may indeed limit how much I can drink, it is also going to annoy me to make frequent trips to the buffet to fill up on orange. Further, I'm going to probably, initially, just take several glasses with me. These were indeed small, barely above a shot glass in depth. The selection was nice, there was some fruit and cereals. Then they come to take your order, in which you could get scrambled eggs (I believe), a poached egg, or a full Irish. I would return, however before I were to book again, I would definitely compare the price difference between the lodge and some of the places in city centre. Reason being it's about a 6.5 Euro (+1 euro per extra passenger) ride, each way, into city centre. Depending on how many trips you plan on making, it may be more economical to just stay inside the centre itself.

Our friend's room was refunded for the second night, ours was not. We had no transportation without our friend's vehicle, so we could not stay the second evening either. There are stairs leading into the building, narrow hallways, an elevator that barely holds a rollator and two people. But that's just the start of our experience so far. Even though the room we have is somewhat accessible the shower would not be for anyone with mobility issues. The shower appears to be recently renovated as does the rest of the bathroom the entrance to the shower is small and the floor is slippery!!! Not what you want for anyone. The issues continue, the mattress is old and has a foam topper on it. Needs a new mattress that provides some support. You only get about 12 tv channels and of that only about two have anything that's remotely interesting. We luckily came back to our room at 6pm only to find two servers from the cafe below locking the front door. No one told us the door gets locked and we were never told how to get in. Need anything after the receptionist has left at 5? You need to call to the sister hotel to have one of their staff help you. There is no a/c, not a big problem as you are located near the water so there would be cooling over the evening hours. But the windows are heavy and you need blocks of wood to hold them open. Again no one told us until we called to find this out. Again we had to call to the sister hotel to have someone bring something to prop the windows open. They do provide a Dyson fan but without the windows open it just blows around hot air. There's a large Ardmore in the room for hanging clothes, etc. That's great except there are no handles on it. Want to open it? You need to reach up to the top of the door to do that. Out of luck if you are short. Internet? Almost non-existent. Connections keep dropping, can't connect to websites, not even sure I'll finish this post before I lose the connection again. Think you get the idea. This establishment may work for some but there is no way we can recommend it and this is only our first night of a two night stay.

This was my 2nd favorite hotel (after Ashford Castle) while visiting Ireland. The room was spacious, modern and beautifully decorated. The ensuite bath was lovely too, really enjoyed the double sinks as that helped my sister and I get ready quicker. The location is lovely, right by the river, and we went for a walk by the river which was very nice. All the staff we encountered were very nice and helpful. If I ever have the pleasure to go to Cork again and would love to return to this hotel.
