Once settled her restaurant, pub and sightseeing tips were first rate. Bed was very comfortable and house was quiet (although we were travelling during the off season). Having your own bathroom and shower is great as well. The breakfasts were top notch and ample, a light lunch at most was needed between breakfast and dinner. Central location also makes it attractive to those who like their amenities close by. Should we ever get back to Cork we would return here to stay.

Upon arriving, Olive was warm, welcoming, and took care of us with a pot of tea and chocolates and a friendly disposition that made us feel as if we were her old friends just popping by for a visit rather than strangers meeting for the first time. She had plenty of stories to share and wisdom on where to go and what to see while in Cork (and the appropriate maps to guide us in the right direction). Our room was cozy with a reasonably sized bathroom (by Irish standards) and a sweeping view over the city. The breakfast was prompt and piping hot - my husband raved about the black and white pudding, while I stuck to scrambled eggs, beans, and toast. Plus, the B&B is located a comfortable walking distance from the bus terminal and train station. I'd recommend Auburn House to any out of town visitors looking for the full B&B experience.

Agherton Lodge B&B - You made to feel like Lord of the manner at Agherton Lodge

This bed & breakfast is in one the most attractive & tranquil rural settings that I've ever stayed…read morein, near to the river Blackwater. It's just outside the small village of Banteer, and around 17km west of the town of Mallow in north Co. Cork. Agherton Lodge is a 2-storey detached house in a very striking setting, so much so that you feel like you're the lord or lady of the manner staying in this environment, in a pleasant ranch-like way. A really nice lady who was originally from the north welcomed us the early evening we arrived, and she very kindly laid us out tea, coffee & biscuits in the open plan front room, which was much appreciated. There were spacious solid wood floors throughout, (good for my asthma), it all looked both spotlessly clean & new, as well as warm & inviting. There were 4 of us, 1 woman, 3 blokes, staying in 3 rooms. Our 'boss' and only girl each had spacious double rooms to themselves, I shared an equally spacious twin room with the other guy. It was €35 each, which I felt was very good for this standard of accommodation. The bedrooms were fantastic, bright, breezy & cheerful, all with ensuite. The doubles have a lovely indulgent looking bath. Jo was so impressed she photographed hers! The beds, even the singles were blissfully comfortable. My room had a superb south facing view of fields, trees & rolling hills in the background and horses,(very frisky horses), in the foreground, with big french windows that opened onto a balcony. It was just so lovely & peaceful standing on the balcony & watching the horses frolic around, on a lovely mild evening in October, and relaxed me completely before a show I was doing at the nearby Glen Theatre. After a bit of a drink with the generous guys at The Glen, the B&B was equally welcoming at night. It was quiet season I should stress, and it was just us 4 in residence, but bearing in that the mind the couple running it had a son, & a very friendly dog, we were given loads of space, and truly felt it was ours! Breakfast next morning was to an equally high standard, and generous. I always love places that don't seem like guesthouses but places that you feel, well at home in, and we all definitely felt at home here. Real 5 star quality, and a lovely place to base yourself if you want to explore Cork & Kerry by car.

I was welcomed with a lovely chat over tea and a scone by the innkeeper Rosaleen O'Leary! I really appreciated her taking time to get to know me and share her thoughts on Irish history and culture. My room was good sized, appealing and a great value. Showers were hot with good water pressure. The gardens on the property were just gorgeous - imagine Secret Garden type plantings. My stay included a complete hot Irish breakfast with lots of coffee, eggs and Irish bacon - similar to a fried ham. Mmmm. I enjoyed a morning walk down the road to Ross Castle, which I highly recommend. Who knew the advancements in medieval architecture and defense? Ross Castle Lodge B&B is adjacent to the Killarney National Park, and one may walk through the park to get to the 'town' of Killarney where you'll find lots of restaurants, pubs & shops. Booking was easy via email. Walkable distance to town and the train station - but a cab is easier for arrivals! The view from the property is unbelievable. The hosts are the most kind and gracious people. We we're traveling using public transport only and Susan and Desmond were so helpful, looking up schedules, locating the best boarding spots, and even going to far as to give us a lift into Waterford to further verify our transportation options. Our room was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was one of the best we had in Ireland. Susan even makes her own vegan sausage. if you ever find yourself in Irelands southeast coast, you should go out of your way to stay at Samuel's Heritage. You won't regret it.

The rooms were separated by a dark hallway from the main part of the property. Some people might like this as they are able to enter from the parking lot without having to come through the entrance. The reason why I am giving Samuels Heritage two stars is because upon our arrival, rather that being thanked for booking with them, we were lectured by Susan on how we should have book directly through her rather than through Hotels.com. After a long day of driving and looking forward to relaxing, it was inappropriate and tacky to for her to question our role as consumers with regard our travel decisions. Hotels.com lead us to discover the Samuels Heritage in the first place (for as much as we travel, we earn free nights). It made our stay feel awkward. On the plus side, breakfast was good -- the salmon and eggs were excellent and the scones were perfect. Desmond, Susan's husband, is a really nice guy. The eggs used were freshly collected from their chickens on site. He was out in the pouring rain, gathering eggs for the day's breakfast service. The dining room was warm and inviting.
