We always ask our boys what they learned and how their day went at school. On the way to Parish Hall our son was saying, repeating a couple times out loud "I really love school" Teacher, Mrs. Lauren Hopkins (Mrs Lauren Coley) responded to our son's enthusiasm by saying "your dad says you hate school." We were absolutely devastated to hear that Mrs Hopkins would make such a false statement. A teacher's responsibility is to build up a child and to grow him. We believe her words made in front staff and children are demeaning and an attempting to embarrass our family. The principles and mission of YVCS is to nurture a child's mind, spirit, and character, providing a purposeful education. When we drop our boys off at school, we are trusting that the school upholds these standards. We've witnessed some staff at YVCS being awfully rigid to rules and principles. In the beginning of the year, we were often bombarded with negative things said about Luke. We questioned if they were over-emphasizing on disciplinary actions. Our question today is what happens when staff breaks their own rules and responsibilities? Do they hold themselves to the same high standards they hold our children to? As his teacher, we questioned why doesn't Mrs Hopkins concentrate on our son's strengths? He's an incredible leader, he's curios, active and loves to help his classmates. He actually loves to learn. Our sons have over 100 well-made videos on YouTube with their dad exploring subjects like science experiments and building rockets, learning about animals and exploring insects, building a treehouse, creating crafts and adventuring the great outdoors. There's been a number of times where I've picked up our son from school and we've noticed that the "wind has been out of his sails." It is usually in relation to how he feels like he has failed again. Mrs Hopkins words were verified by other staff and kids who overheard her destructive and careless words. We understand God to be one of graciousness. We expect that our child be treated purposefully, with understanding, and with favor. It is also our desire that staff at YVCS be treated with the same care and purposefulness. It is for this reason that we want to school to review Mrs. Hopkins words and follow them with purposeful action. UPDATE: He was removed from his classroom by the school principal We were NOT notified of this change nor did we receive a phone call or email, nor did we receive an apology from the teacher or Principal Mrs. Ilyn Kagawan.

Not only has my son flourished academically, socially but also spiritually! He has been surrounded by loving/caring teachers and faculty who have shown a deep interest in his young life. The school is small which allows teachers more individual attention to each student and they REALLY get to know each child's strengths and talents and work to develop those areas especially (while still working towards increasing weaker areas of strength). This school feels more like a family and that is a HUGE change from the public school environment my son came from. My son has expressed his love for the school. The principal was an unenthusiastic mess, she focused on minor problems like dress code and running in the halls instead of the violence that happened all over campus, and really never solved problems brought up by students/counselors. My teachers were overall pretty good, but some were terrible. My eighth grade math teacher Mr. Woolridge, was an oaf. He didn't know how to spell or even do the curriculum. He strictly went by the book and only went over problems were they give you the answers. Luckily he was fired and left right after the 2024 school year ended. Overall I can say that the school has gotten better since 2022, but is still a violent and overall lacking education and administration wise.

Then while trying to learn @ school he should feel safe at gets kicked walking up stairs by another child telling him he wants to "Kill him". (1st Grade) When I brought this up that this was not ok. I was informed that, "Oh, ya know kids and video games." Like, no, I don't. This is unacceptable behavior to allow. I have tried to have multiple meetings w/the pastors and principal and it took me over 1yr to get that meeting. Which was a joke in itself. We took time off to handle these issues. The pastors literally told us to our faces they do not like to focus on the school side of things and only like to focus on the church side of things.Are you kidding me? Why would you take over a church and school if you only want to focus on one side you should have just joined a church. You have our children's education in your hands and yet you don't want to focus on the school side? Now we had to make an additional meeting bc the pastors were unfit to handle the situation. I tried to have multiple meetings w/the principal when I brought up issues instead of her dealing with it she sent us a de enrollment form. So we thought if we met with the pastors this would be handled bc they're suppose to be the top of the chain. Boy were we wrong. So the pastors made us have an additional meeting w/the principal for intentionally de enrolling our kids. We only found this out due to the re enrollment fees not being taken out and the registrar informing us the principal asked her to not take our fees out bc we wanted a meeting. So for my son getting bullied you're going to retaliate against us for bringing these issues to the forefront? After dealing with the mishandling of these situations we decided to pull our kids out of this school for their safety. I will also mention other safety concerns. Homeless people sleeping in front of the school. Two people walk up on campus have no child that attends KVCS, ask to use the restroom on the blacktop. They allow these people in the school. Can you imagine if a child was in that RR and these people were pediphiles & did something to one of our children? Now the nail in the coffin of why our kids were pulled out on top of EVERYTHING ELSE was bc I went to p/u my son for an appt thank god I did bc I would not have known this was occurring. I walked in & was informed my son was in the back room w/ a psychiatrist. WITHOUT MY CONSENT. (Behind a closed door w/minor). When I asked if I was going to get an email or a phone call about this I was told by the psychiatrist, "By law I don't need to tell you anything." The school did not call me or inform me this was happening. Come to find out forms were forged w/o my knowledge or consent. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR CHILDREN! I can go on and on about the negatives of this place. They're NOT about the kids they're about the money. Your child is nothing but a # here. The preschool can't even keep a teacher. Most of the BEST teachers have left here that should tell you EVERYTHING. I should also mention in the preschool I walked in for my younger son's bday and they HAD HIM FACING A WALL and told me he's just been a lot. So how many other times is my son being mistreated? I pulled him out immediately and had to have him at work with me bc of the mistreatment he endured. He cried every morning coming to this place not wanting to go and now I know why. He LOVES the school he goes to now. Then my 7yo tells me after leaving this place that homeless people across the street from the school playground would stare at them watching them play.This school is horrible and I can give you plenty more reasons but I think I gave you enough. I can't count how many times the custodial crew has gone out of their way to help and work so incredibly hard. But one of the leads of the school is rather dreadful to deal with. The office manager, Juanita, is always so aggressive and angry at everyone and hard to talk to. I've witnessed and heard bad stories of experiences where she doesn't focus on her job but will just yell at others and staff for things that are out of control. I've even been told she refuses to officialize overtime and comp pay that is legitimate. Really terrible to see such improper and unprofessional hostility in the workplace. Maybe she needs a position of less authority.

Hope Academy has made such a huge difference for our son, a kid that otherwise would have slipped…read morethrough the cracks. My son is bright (as most dyslexics are) and was struggling in public school as he learns differently. He has a 504 and had an IEP and had the weight of the world on his shoulders as he was feeling defeated. We made the difficult decision to pull him from his school and friends and try Hope Academy .... best decision we EVER made. It has been so much fun to watch him grow and watch him succeed. Can't say enough good things. Great experience and worth every penny!

The tools she learned at Hope gave her the confidence to enter high school and succeed. She has been on Honor Roll for the past 3 years. Her teachers are always praising her on what a great student she is. I know Senior year will be amazing for her. She takes pride in her studies and is her own advocate at school. Enjoys Teaching other about Dyslexia. We know it was the 5 years at Hope Academy that gave her the confidence and tools to be this amazing successful student.
