The room was bright and airy, very comfortable bed and well-appointed bathroom and with a panoramic view of the car park. A pity but no biggie either. Dinner in the restaurant was pretty good too and the breakfast the following morning plentiful and really excellent. However, I have to say there is a distinct hi-de-hi quality to Kelly's which seems to be their USP. The clientele on the midweek night we were there was a mixture of retired couples and families with very young children. Afternoon tea was complimentary but we arrived to discover an entertainments manager starting a table quiz for the eager denizens giving the place a distinct air of a retirement community rather than a hotel. Returning to the same bar after dinner, a musical duet were eviscerating an old Kenny Ball standard, curiously using a guitar to imitate a saxophone. On reflection, we opted for an early night. I realise this is exactly why people return to Kelly's again and again but, frankly, it was not our cup of Darjeeling. Unlikely to return but if organised events in a resort hotel are your thing, who am I to argue?

It's a great family hotel with a kids club and plenty of entertainment to keep them busy. But there's lots for grown-ups too. They have a fabulous new spa which has every treatment you could imagine. Did I mention it's by the beach?! I love being by the sea. It's also a treat to sit out in the hot tub and watch the waves crash on the beach below. The best part though is the food. Be warned, it might be too much for some people. There's breakfast, then there's a gorgeous buffet lunch (or you can have lunch in the dining room), there's afternoon tea and then of course there's dinner. The food is fabulous, local and great Irish dishes. There's also La Marine bar and restaurant if you want something a little less formal. Kelly's has all of the attributes of an old fashioned hotel experience in a beautifully modern, cosy hotel.

The hotel was nice. It is very basic but certainly covers all of your needs. The bar inside the hotel serves meals and they were very good. Great quality food at a decent price. The restaurant that serves breakfast inside the hotel also serves dinner but requires reservations so we did not have a chance to eat there. We did however have breakfast there each morning and it was good quality and variety. The pool and fitness equipment are located with in a spa that is on the property. Come prepared with a swim cap because you will not be allowed to swim without one. You can purchase one at the front desk. Beautifully clean pool and nice facility.

Gordon in the Ballast Bar was wonderful as was the barman, whose name I failed to get. But a special thank you goes to Kate at the hotel Reception Desk. The staff are friendly and attentive, and if you are a local you are bound to meet someone in here you know. I visited the bar and grill on a Friday afternoon for lunch which was filling up quickly at 1pm. The menu is varied - Carvery options, fresh fish, burgers, wraps, sandwiches the list goes on! Each time I have eaten here I have found the food to be filing and tasty with food orders arriving in good time. They also have a restaurant - Oyster Lane restaurant which provides a luxurious dining experience. The hotel overlooks the marina and they have their own car park at the rear which is free of charge as long as you are a paying customer :-) So if you are looking for quality fresh food then look no further!

Large enough not to feel too cramped, with in room bathrooms. There is not an elevator. I required assistance getting my suitcase up the stairs. They have a very nice dining room. A separate bar area, and a room to the side for private parties. The food is very good, with huge servings. The staff is friendly and very helpful. There are bus stops right outside the hotel, making it easier to use public transportation. A taxi from Wexford city to the hotel runs about 13 pounds. I would stay here again .

We've been in Carrick for three weeks, staying nearby, and walk to the hotel's restaurant nearly every day for tea, coffee, scones, and sometimes for lunch or dinner. The Carraig has the best wi-fi internet we've found in the town, giving us a chance to remain in touch with home in the U.S. The staff here is the best, friendly, helpful. They're open from about 8 AM until late, and can pull a really nice pint (or half-pint if you prefer) of Guinness, as well as a selection of other beverages. We haven't had occasion to use the hotel facilities, but no doubt they'll measure up to the downstairs. Thanks to all the staff for providing a home away from home.

This review is for the accommodations at Jim McGee's. We…read moreoften travel during the 'off' or 'shoulder' season so Wexford was pretty quiet during our stay. Jim McGee's is up the hill, a bit away from the waterfront. We easily walked down to the main shopping area where you will find a few pubs and restaurants. Jim McGee's bar was not serving food during our stay. We drove in from the southwest, making the bar/hotel on our left. From this direction, you turn into the parking area before the building. Parking is behind. Check in is a small area inside the bar with signs from the parking lot making it easy to find. Unfortunately there was no one in this small area when we arrived and a quick look around for staff was needed. The bartender was very nice, she took our information, and walked us through the pubs outdoor patio, up some stairs to the back door while giving us some instructions on getting into the building and left us there to carry our bags up two flights to our room. The stair case is a bit narrow and maybe a little steep but nothing we haven't encountered in Ireland before. Also as seen before, there are no elevators in the building so be sure you can carry your bag upstairs. The room had a 'double door' set up: the door to the hallway brings you into an interior hallway with a bath on one side and a space for hanging clothes and suitcase rack on the other. Just past this is a second door leading into the bedroom. Having this double door set up reduces hallway noise in the night. The room was a triple with a double bed on one side of the doorway which included a TV on the wall at the foot of the bed, and a single bed on the other side of the doorway (sans TV). There was a nice little table with a coffee/tea tray, bottled water and two comfortable chairs. The room was plenty big. The bathroom was a good size, updated, clean and contained the expected amenities, plus wash clothes, which not everyone in Ireland (and most of Europe) provide and were a welcome surprise. Our room overlooked the pub patio and parking area. As I mentioned, it was off season and too cold to hang out on the patio so we had no trouble with noise. On a beautiful summer evening however, it may be a bit loud, so if you are an 'early to bed' sort, and stay in the summer, I do recommend ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones. There is a lovely living room on the first floor, front, for guests. It has a TV, soft sofas and a fire to keep it cozy on cold days. Jim McGee recommends you book your room through their website to get the best rates. Wexford itself has a few attractions in town and nearby. We particularly enjoyed the Heritage Park. In town the eating options were extremely limited during our stay however there are a number of pubs of which Simon Lambert serves their own brew and offer food service earlier in the day. I gave this accommodation 4 stars because as an economical place to stay, although the building is older and they do not provide things like 24 hour front desk staff or an elevator, they do pay attention to the details and check most boxes you'd expect from a good hotel. It is within easy walking of the local tourist sights, the waterfront, shopping and dining. Parking is free as is wi-fi. Remember to pack your plug adapter and to 'turn on' the outlets to charge your phone.
