They try to do the Comcast/Xfinity model - they don't want to speak to you. I just switched to another auto insuerer. Tired of their overpriced premiums and lazy service. Been with this agent since I started driving (16 and now 52). He's a corporate suit who talks down to you. He's the true form of the poor parts of insurance claims. Unfortunately, his actions as well as his office's actions rendered me no choice but to switch. Saved almost half of the cost with a top carrier - not some mom and pop.

On a rainy Sunday our first floor toilet was flushed and water came out from underneath the toilet. It was quickly cleaned up and we assumed the bees wax seal on the toilet needed to be replaced. The plumber came out and quickly (after four hours) discovered after trying to power rod and camera our waste line (which is buried under our house, under the concrete slab) that the line appeared to be broken or collapsed. He felt that interior walls, flooring, the concrete slab, and our stairs needed to all be demolished to access the pipe to fully access and replace. That plumber was ready to start tearing out the next day. I was not comfortable have a majority of my entire first floor torn apart without a second opinion about the issue. I also saw the potential of huge costs associated with this repair. So having NEVER had to file a claim with our State Farm Insurance Agent JJ Ghiotti (my agent since 1998) on our home, I called him immediately. I explained in GREAT DETAIL what the issue was as diagnosed by the first plumber. I told him I was in process getting a second opinion by a separate plumbing company. JJ Ghiotti verbally told me as long as the broken pipe is with our home and not outside of our home it the repair would be covered under our policy. I asked if State Farm should come look at the issue, as well as if I had to hire specific State Farm approved contractors. I was told I can hire whom ever I wanted and to submit a claim when the work is done. At no time did JJ Ghiotti indicate that they should come out to look at the issue before the repair occurs or during. So as far as I understood, I could hire contractors of my choice, have the issue repaired and submit our bills to claims. We ended up hiring the second plumber because they felt they could repair the broken waste line without having to demolish walls and our stairs to access the waste line. They did have to remove hardwood flooring and jackhammer the concrete floor in three areas to access the collapsed waste line. We had two plumbers onsite for 8 hours a day for six consecutive days. We were without plumbing for two days and had to stay at a hotel one night. The plumbing issue was repaired. The flooring fixed. And I finally called to submit the claim. I was told a claims adjuster would need to come out to look at the area of work. Ok, sure, this is new news to me. Thank god I took pictures throughout the process, because I don't think the woman would have believed there had been so much construction. Surprise surprise, she indicated to me at our home that NONE will be covered by State Farm. What?!? And that State Farm should have reviewed the damage right when it was found. Wow. Everything I was told by my insurance agent was incorrect. Of course all verbally because Mr. Ghiotti doesn't use email of course. She said had the broken pipe caused damage to our home, that would have been covered. But our broken pipe was underneath the concrete slab and caused no damage other than we had no working plumbing and a huge pile of human waste accumulating under the slab too. Gross! So now we are close to $13,000 in repairs and I listened to my trusted State Farm Agent who not only gave me incorrect information, but apparently couldn't even follow standard protocol when a client calls for direction. Well, State Farm will be losing two car policies, and three different property policies. Don't give this agent your business. When the dreaded day comes that you have home damage.....he lacks all ability to do his job, he will not put anything in writing of course and then lie to his own company about what he said and didn't or did not do. So much for serving a client of 19 years. Update: Also had a follow up conversation with the agent today. Would not let me get a word in edgewise, interrupted me and called me a liar. I asked repeatedly to share what I felt had transpired without him yelling at me and interrupting and he couldn't refrain to hear his client out. And then Mr. Ghiotti hung up on me. Like a good neighbor, he isn't. Policies moved to another office, formal compliant filed with State Farm. This isn't about money, it's about customer service.
