It's a nice park and historical site. They have several permanent BBQ grills picnic tables, water fountain. A group of us went for the fireworks, that were supposed to be from Saugerties, NY. We arrived midday; to see the re-enactments and enjoy the great weather. There was an ice cream truck and a food truck. They Always had a line. By the time dusk was approaching the crowds started to fill the great lawns facing the Hudson and the city of Saugerties. By 9:15 pm there were a few sporadic flares from the West Bank of the Hudson. By almost 10 pm it was pretty obvious there would not be a fireworks display that night. We've seen plenty of fireworks displays, so for us was NBD. Felt kind of bad for the young families whose kids were probably disappointed. read more

The word that came to mind most often, as I was strolling around the grounds, was "unspoiled." They're probably a bit less fancy, more basic, than other mansion grounds, but they're very well maintained, with enough signs to be informative. The gardens were nice and also well maintained, but not fancy - some signs as to the varieties of flowers and plants would be nice. There's several places to the south of the house offering scenic views of the Hudson River, and the Catskills beyond that. Mansion tours were going on while I was there. A sign at the entrance says that paid parking for 2020 began on 6/6, where you pay the fee of $5 at one of the machines at either end of the parking lot. Unfortunately, it's not $5, it's $6 now. Rest rooms are available behind the parking lot, and there's a fairly large area behind it and to the south for sitting, picnics, and light recreation (e.g., folks were throwing frisbees). Dogs are permitted on a leash. Even on a nice day on a weekend, there's plenty of space for everyone. Though I imagine this is a very popular site to visit during fall foliage season. read more

I have enjoyed coming to Clermont for years. The Livingston family was very kind to donate the house, grounds, furniture, and family heirlooms for us to visit. Their daughter, Honoria, was the last of the family to live there and she even left an endowment to care for the property. Buildings are being well maintained and the grounds are clean. A state park with all the Hudson River views and no crowd. Easy 1 mile walk with historic signs along the way to educate you about the land and owners. All ability access for bathrooms and views , parking brings you to waterfront views. Easily recommended for all ages, families and picnics. No playgrounds but great views and space for large groups. read more

Lilac trees as far as the eye can see? Yes please. Just gorgeous! So peaceful. I found it very easy to walk. Take a pic of the trail on your phone and wander. After 2 years of searching for the perfect place in the Hudson Valley, I think I have found it. Can't wait to visit the house when it reopens read more

My wife and I signed up to go on the Halloween Candlelight Tour at Clermont. It is a bit off the beaten path for us and took us about an hour and half to get there. We didn't plan accordingly for how long it would take us and then rushed to get there which became pretty stressful for us. We then wound up passing the sign to Clermont which made us even later and we definitely missed the tour time we signed up for. We reserved ourselves to try and ask if we could go on a later tour when we get there knowing full well it was our fault we missed the tour time we were supposed to be on and that they probably were booked. When we arrived there was a long line of lighted jack-o-lanterns lighting the way to the visitor center which looked very neat. When we walked in I was already to be told that unfortunately we missed the tour and they were booked. Instead what happened was the incredibly kind lady behind the desk said that they had already shifted our reservation to the next tour, not too worry and to please relax and have some hot cider and donuts. I cannot tell you how welcome that was to a couple who was snipping at each other in the car as the time kept getting farther and farther away from our original reservation. We were able to let the stress go, enjoy the refreshments and tour the visitors center which was deported for the holiday. The tour itself was wonderful in the house of Robert Livingston. The actors followed the storyline of a party thrown in 1921 who summoned ghosts from the American revolution. We loved every minute of it and want to go back just to tour the house itself. Very rarely do you see such warm, friendly, an accommodating customer service in this day and age. It was something that I was truly appreciative of and something I will not soon forget. read more

There is something strange going on here.The one review doesn't even mention - THE HOUSE- in other words the Livingston mansion known as Clermont.The park is pretty and offers impressive views of the Hudson but if you are a tourist that's not why your'e here.The house is interesting and contrasts sharply with nearby Olana.It was owned by Americas richest family the Livingston's.It is not overly ornate but attractive with spectacular views.Thankfully it wasn't crowded.Had a first rate tour guide-Jenny?- who was well informed and very nice( especially given that I was getting talky and pedantic).By all means go to this and Olana - and Thomas Cole's house in Catskill. read more

To whom who is concerned the 4th of July fireworks display was a disaster. The band was absolutely horrible. The theme of the music had nothing to do with America and its independence. The guy who was singing needs to go to voice classes, guitar classes, and classes on how to be silent during fireworks. The whole purpose of this event was the fireworks and not the band and its glory. And if this event was accurately described as in the advisement I would of brought earplugs, a telescope, and additional nannies to properly take care of the unruly standing children that do not have any parental supervision. Also if I knew we could go shirtless I would have also bought my blindfold so I wouldn't have had to see the women with a bigger beer belly than I have. Lack of parking. One way in and one way out. The parking attendant has no perception of direction for people to park. Almost got ran over by the food truck exiting before the fireworks were over because I have had enough. All about money. Not about the celebration of America. 0 out 10 on fireworks display but we could hear Kingston's fireworks through the trees while I was walking back the three miles uphill to my car. The smell from the toilets, the food truck grease, and lack of deodorant by some attendees was very unpleasant. Staff vacated the premises once they collected your money. Horrible experience. Save yourself the 12 dollars and go to the dollar tree and buy yourself some sparklers and you'll a better and quieter time. Also make sure to bring to your flashlight and wait til it's completely dark and the fireworks are going off so you can blind everyone behind you so they cannot enjoy the fireworks experience as I wonderfully had to endure then it will be a true Clermont historical site firework experience. read more
