During my time at Primrose Leawood, I observed an overwhelming amount of children had behavioral…read moreissues with many of them being quite severe and disruptive. It is left solely up to the teachers to discipline and handle these behaviors with no support. For example, kindergarten students regularly physically fight each other and some are still not required to be potty trained which results in many accidents in class. When management is called in, the child is rewarded for misbehaving. When behavior escalates and parents are informed, they scream at the management who then get mad at the teachers. If behavioral management isn't a strong skill, I would look somewhere else. Additionally, the management is comprised of four team members. One is amazing, one is competent, one refuses to do her job, to the detriment of the teachers and their curriculum, and one is too obsessed with drama and judgment towards her young, female employees to even realize she has a job. The amount of judging and degrading language I received or overheard from the director is appalling. If you believe she isn't judging you, think again! Unfortunately, jealously is a disease that McDowel cannot find a cure for. Lastly, the veteran teachers are wonderful and kind! My coteacher was a saint! You will be set up for success if paired with one of them. Unfortunately this is not true for all teachers. Many teachers in the younger rooms spend the whole day on their phones and offload all responsibilities onto their coteacher, regardless of if they're the teacher assigned to the room or not. Even during outdoor recess, the prekindergarten teachers will sit out of sight on the wall on their phones rather than make sure the kids are safe, leaving the safety of 24 children solely on you. It is extremely disheartening and dangerous that this is a known issue that is allowed to continue. All in all, there are clear issues that make this job unnecessarily hard, namely unresolved behavioral issues and mean staff members. Aside from the youngest member, do not trust the management. They will use any information you give them to make your work life harder.

We love that the location is free standing and appears very secure and well kept. The hallways are wide, clean and clutter free. The rooms all have a lot of windows and are well lit. There are age appropriate toys that do not look old or too worn. I consistently see money being put back into the property and the classrooms such as new ride on toys in the early toddler rooms and large touch screen computers in the preschool rooms. This location is definitely not convenient for us and, trust me, we have looked at several other daycare options that would be much closer to our home and work (more than once) but nothing ever compares to Primrose School of Leawood! We have been very happy here.

I was lucky enough to keep my son home with me until he was 6 months old and was incredibly nervous about someone else watching him when that time came. I had interviews with all the schools in those areas, and this Goddard completely stood out. The school is clean, the teachers are knowledgeable and patient, and the school Chef, Larry is exceptional-to the point that any days I do early pick up my daughter requests I get her after lunch. I am extremely mindful and choosing where my daughter spends her day. This is one of those gems in our community. It is hard to find a school that will offer a part-time, flexible schedule for infant care! We gradually made the transition to 5 days/week and couldn't be happier with the overall friendly, down-to-earth, and supportive environment of the school and staff. They have offered open and clear communication and support during all of the uncertainties surrounding COVID in 2020 and beyond and made sure to keep families well informed of any procedural changes due to COVID, etc. The school directors and staff really care about the families at Small Beginnings and we rest easy as parents knowing how much our young child LOVES going to school there everyday.

As far as the language piece goes, I love that our kid is set up to speak another language, the groundwork for language at a young age is very important. We withdrew our 6-month-old after just a couple of months due to ongoing concerns. The classroom was consistently overheated--so much so that sleep sacks weren't allowed, and even after dressing her in light summer clothes, we were told daily that she was sweating and fussy. There's also no real-time communication or app--just a paper report at pickup, which regularly stated she was grumpy. At home, she's incredibly calm (we call her "baby chill"), so we were surprised by the daily feedback. We even brought in a baby bjorn to help soothe her, but the promised A/C repairs never materialized. Sadly, we can't recommend this school based on our experience.
