This is a nice little to-go (takeaway) fish bar, that I visited on New Years Day. While the fish in chips dish is pretty good, I think their all beef burgers and battered sausage is where they shine. The service is friendly and quick so you don't have to wait long after ordering. Some sweet, fresh sea bass and a large portion of haddock, both perfectly covered in a thin, yet crispy and flaky batter that really hit the spot. This place has found the perfect balance of batter to fish and it's no wonder it's filled with locals and not just out of towners. The fish was complemented by generous portions of chips (fries), just be warned, the large size is quite large. The tail-on scampi was delicious as a side order. Service is relatively quick but seating is limited, so grab a stool quickly or be prepared to find a spot somewhere outside in the area to grab a bite of your fish while it's hot. Mmm Fishy...actually it doesn't smell fishy...it is probably the cleanest, most appetizing Chippy in Bristol. It is probably the tastiest fish & chip shop in Bristol too. The prices are slightly higher, especially for things that aren't fish, like burgers but what this chippy does well is make food that is sufficiently stodgy without being too greasy, a hard task indeed for a chippy. The portions are huge and it's not hard to see from just one portion of their salty & vinegary chips why this food has been a staple part of the British diet for so long, especially in the north where they eat it for breakfast, and they have coco pops for tea, it's all backwards up there. The battered sausages are great and if you need to line your stomach before or after a night on the lash just hope you have left the pub in time to catch the Fish Bar open. Here we have a very good example of a fish and chip shop that tries to cater for all - and I like it. It's very similar to many other fish and chip shops when it comes to the price of its stock - having fished the little fellas nearly to extinction it's little wonder we have to pay a little more. The quality also is all there for me; chunky chips that aren't to French or too Mc Donalds, and the fish itself not too crunchy or too soggy. The chips are great, the staff are friendly, and there's even some some nice tables and chairs to seat yourself if you don't fancy having a nibble on the downs. We drove all the way from Easton on a friend's recommendation - they do sell an unusal array of seafood to sit upon your chips - scallops, lemon soles, sea bass, king prawns and tasty pies. Admittedly they do sell all those things, although had 'run out' of half of them when I visited. I also found the batter on the soggy side - but maybe it's just me. I'd say if you don't live in the 'village' you might be better off sticking to your local chip shop, it'll be better for your stress levels (and the environment, if you walk!) Yes, a fish and chip shop should be cheap but this is Clifton so it most definitely will not be. Cod and chips comes to a price you'd pay in a reasonably good restaurant elsewhere and you can lump it or leave it really. These are fantastic fish and chips in fairness. Big, juicy chips (the thought of it is literally making my mouth water) and crisply battered cod. They've got the usual selection of pies, mushy peas, and the rest of the family. Also do a couple of fishes other than cod, although the prices are uniformly fairly high. A jumbo battered sausage is ridiculously big and not too dear if you are on a budget. There's space to sit down inside though it isn't the nicest place to hang around, it is a fish and chip shop after all. The staff are friendly and this place is probably a lot cleaner than a fair few other fast food joints around. For best results go when its busy to make sure you don't get chips that have been hanging around for ages. Clifton Villlage Fish Bar is good at what it does, just a little bit pricey. read more

This chippy is generally good, with fairly enthusiastic and friendly staff (on the right night) and great chips. I don't think the price is too bad; quite competitive. My last battered sausage was rubbish, which loses it a star for inconsistency over food quality. Good chippy though, and very popular. read more

I popped in here on the way from the Coronation Tap to the Anson Rooms last week in need of a quick bite and was impressed. As has previously been mentioned the prices are a bit high - £3.80 for cod and that's before you add the chips - but it was definitely a cut above your average chippie. Both the fish and the chips were largely grease free and were very tasty, and came served in their own branded container which made it easy to munch on the move. Anyone expecting your average chipshop prices may find they've bitten off more than they can chew here, but this is Clifton Village after all and you certainly get more for your money quality wise, while they hardly scrimp on quantity either. read more

I think this is one of the best fish and chip shops in bristol - so much so that I now drive across town to get my fish and chips from here over the place just near my house. They have the usualy delights of various fish, sausages, fish cakes and pies, but they also have options for vegetarians, even though only 1 or 2, but something that is hard to find in oter chippies. The food is good - the fish is always tasty and the chips are really good. I'm not a fan of seafood though so I have never tried their other wares, but they do have quite a range. The outside of the shop is very inviting and looks clean and smart which many other chippies dont. and on the whole the staff are friendly (I have had a few grumpy looking souls on a sunday evening who clearly would rather be at home). read more

Clifton Village Fish & chippy. Bellow par, Ordered cod & chips and was disappointed for the following reasons:- 1. Let the server add salt and vinegar and they were over salted with cheep salt. 2. Food was not fresh from the fryer, tasted like it was sat under the heat lamps for some time. 3. Quality was low, tasted like cheep white potato and frozen cod. 4. Standard Portions were small, however could not eat it all as it was far too salty. 5. Over priced Pellegrino's Fish and Chip Shop (bottom Christmas steps) is far better, then Rendezvous Fish & Chip shop (Denmark Street) is good. However on the plus side the Clifton Village Chippy decor looked clean and modern. read more

I have been here a number of times and have every time been disappointed! I will not be eating here again! The service is terrible, i was informed i would be waiting four minutes for my meal 20 minutes later i had to complain to get my food. There was no hint of an apology from the staff who are lacking in people skills and look constantly miserable (try harder in school and you won't have work in a chip shop!). On a previous occasion i ordered Cheesy chip to be given a portion of chips with two slices of cheap burger cheese on top. I complained and was told they had run out of cheese, so why not just tell me that when i ordered! The only plus this place has is that the food is reasonably good... I have now found a much better fish and chip shop on Whiteladies road, where the staff are polite, friendly and the food tastes just as good! I suggest you all try it! read more

I found this excellent Fish bar in Clifton Village whilst on business and it is one that obviously cares about its customers and its fish sources. Well priced and competitive in todays market and especially for an affluent place such as Clifton but the proof is truly in the eating. Good sized portions, tasty and well worth a visit. This will not be my last visit here and I can highly recommend it. I have just visited their website too which is highly informative and innovative for a Fish bar.
