Fried Sea Bass, Whole tail scampi, and Chips!
    Andrew K.

Calling all Americans! This is THE fish & chips place you want to eat at if you're in the Clifton/Bristol area. Don't go anywhere else, this is where it's at. Some sweet, fresh sea bass and a large portion of haddock, both perfectly covered in a thin, yet crispy and flaky batter that really hit the spot. This place has found the perfect balance of batter to fish and it's no wonder it's filled with locals and not just out of towners. The fish was complemented by generous portions of chips (fries), just be warned, the large size is quite large. The tail-on scampi was delicious as a side order. Service is relatively quick but seating is limited, so grab a stool quickly or be prepared to find a spot somewhere outside in the area to grab a bite of your fish while it's hot. Came back here 2 days in a row because I wanted to taste it again before we headed off to London. Surprised there aren't more reviews, but it seems like Yelp isn't as big in London/UK as I thought. But, for those of you who still keep turning on the app and relying on it while abroad like me, I had to share this tasty gem!

Mmm Fishy...actually it doesn't smell fishy...it is probably the cleanest, most appetizing Chippy in Bristol. It is probably the tastiest fish & chip shop in Bristol too. The prices are slightly higher, especially for things that aren't fish, like burgers but what this chippy does well is make food that is sufficiently stodgy without being too greasy, a hard task indeed for a chippy. The portions are huge and it's not hard to see from just one portion of their salty & vinegary chips why this food has been a staple part of the British diet for so long, especially in the north where they eat it for breakfast, and they have coco pops for tea, it's all backwards up there. The battered sausages are great and if you need to line your stomach before or after a night on the lash just hope you have left the pub in time to catch the Fish Bar open. It is very popular and luckily they do stay open quite late.

Went with the classic cod and chips, both in large sizes. Verdict: -Batter was nice and crispy, but edged on the greasier side -Chips were well-balanced -Tartar sauce was too rich and mustardy -Wouldn't come back for these prices; this was a one-time deal following the recommendation of a friend

Here we have a very good example of a fish and chip shop that tries to cater for all - and I like it. It's very similar to many other fish and chip shops when it comes to the price of its stock - having fished the little fellas nearly to extinction it's little wonder we have to pay a little more. The quality also is all there for me; chunky chips that aren't to French or too Mc Donalds, and the fish itself not too crunchy or too soggy. Mushy peas, gravy and all the usual suspects are thrown in and, to separate itself from the rest, it can even cater for vegetarians. That fact alone wins my applause.

A lovely large fish and chip shop, with other options besides, this is the place to come when you're feeling outdoorsy: buy yourself a big portion of fish and chips, walk up to the Downs nearby the Suspension Bridge, and marvel at Bristol's landscape and general brilliance. (Good quality fish and chips are apt to make me happy and philosophical...) The food is excellent quality, served quickly, piping hot and delicious. This is fast food, Clifton-style. Other fish bar classics are available here, too, such as sausages and pies. Pay a bit more here, of course, because it's Clifton, but be prepared to splash out and you won't be disappointed.

Clifton Village Fish Bar is absolutely superb and I'm surprised I'm the first to review it. Besides the usual fish and chips, sausage and chips, pie and chips, etc it offers fish of the day, which ranges from lemon sole to sea bass and also has scallops and king prawns on the menu which are absolutely delicious. The chips are great, the staff are friendly, and there's even some some nice tables and chairs to seat yourself if you don't fancy having a nibble on the downs. This is well worth a visit, especially if you're heading up to the downs to relax a little. Remember to put those wrappers in the bin though!

Now, this one is on the pricey side. Do you want a quick meal with no washing up? Do you want crisp and delicious fish and chips? Do you want to spend less than a tenner on your food? I did. I should have gone somewhere else, that's all I'm saying! We drove all the way from Easton on a friend's recommendation - they do sell an unusal array of seafood to sit upon your chips - scallops, lemon soles, sea bass, king prawns and tasty pies. Admittedly they do sell all those things, although had 'run out' of half of them when I visited. I also found the batter on the soggy side - but maybe it's just me. I'd say if you don't live in the 'village' you might be better off sticking to your local chip shop, it'll be better for your stress levels (and the environment, if you walk!) Oh, and another thing, parking can be an absolute nightmare in Clifton village around tea time, so you it may not be the quickest takeaway you've ever gone for.

I love the decor- very mythical fishermen with posters for movies and wanted signs. They have an extensive menu, including alcohol and their cider comes in 500ml bottles. I've been told it's quite expensive in local standards but for the atmosphere it's worth it. I'd like to give a shoutout to one of the chefs. We had shown up here and the hostess had said they were not taking any one without a reservation. But there were open tables. Disappointed, we walked out. Standing in front of the restaurant, trying to figure out what to do, the cook comes out and says they will make room for us. Absolutely the sweetest. We were so stoked to eat at this place again. He even brought out tasty food out to us himself!

The local chippy may have won some awards, but the takeaway vibe isn't so enticing. So when you want a bit more of a dining experience this is a modest cafe style setting that's nicely decorated in the centre of town. We parked in the back streets on a meter. My haddock and chips and Sam's cod and chips were freshly made and really good. Our waitrees gave us friendly service and was attentive. We went in the early evening in early Jan and it was pretty empty.
