I've been aware of self-scheduling self-pay MRIs for a few years now, but this was the first time…read moreusing it. On the plus side, it was simple to use and easy to get a quick appointment. The scan itself produced good images and came with an accurate interpretation from a radiologist. But while I got the results that I needed, I don't think that this service is the right fit for everyone. It was super easy to schedule. They have an online scheduling form, and it was also easy to get a next day appointment (I don't think a lot of people are using the service). I paid a $50 deposit toward a $499 scan and paid the balance when I arrived. You can choose to pay an additional $100 to have an explanation attached. You get an official radiologist interpretation either way, so I assume that someone breaks down the medicalese for you. I didn't opt for that. The scan was about what I expected it to be. I do have some concerns about the MRI tech. From a customer service standpoint, she was not at all welcoming and did not introduce herself. The office was obviously set up to be customer service oriented, with a coffee bar and drink refrigerator and cups of chocolates. She didn't offer any of the amenities and even tried to hide the bowl of chocolate behind her counter. From a patient safety perspective, she also did not make any effort to go through the screening questions that determine whether it's safe for you to have the MRI or not. MRIs are safe from a radiation standpoint, but can be really dangerous because there are incredibly powerful magnets involved. In fact, there was a recent highly publicized case of someone being killed in an MRI scanner. I filled out an online questionnaire, but if I had not understood the questions, and made a mistake, she didn't make any efforts to clarify it. But she did the scan and the machine made all the expected cacophony that MRI machines make. She sent me away with a CD of the images and I had an official interpretation in my email box about four hours later. I also had my orthopedist cousin review the images and the interpretation. He felt that the images are adequate (so it's not a "stripped down" version of a real scan) and the interpretation was thorough. It did leave out a lot of the technique that I'm used to seeing (I'm also a physician, but not orthopedist), but I'm sure that most of you don't care about that anyway. So my feeling is that the walk in MRI definitely can have a useful place. If you're anxious to have an answer and it's impacting your decision-making (mine was whether I could safely continue to play soccer despite the pain), and you're willing to pay for it (in my case, if I'd waited for insurance to approve it, it'd have been next year anyway, and probably would have cost more if I hadn't met my deductible yet). As a physician, I would *not* personally recommend the total body scans that they offer for people with no symptoms of any abnormality.

Either way, he was polite. The tech, however was AWESOME! She was very knowledgeable about the process and calming in her explanations. She provided music in my headphones and gave me updates through the process. I made my appointment with a rep. versus online, however, it appears either would have been more than sufficient. The website was very clear in scheduling appointments. No surprises, no medicalese....simple and fast. They gave me the disc when I left and I got my results by around noon! I'd recommend to anyone who needs this service. To be clear, without the contrast, you may not be able to catch miniscule injuries, HOWEVER, I was super surprised that they were able to pick up mine. I feel empowered having this information. Without this....lol....I would have sworn my knee died and was taking the rest of my leg with it! Thank you First Look MRI, Chamblee....(PS. I appreciate the mug and candy you gave as a parting gift!)

I still work in the industry, in a different capacity, but I have patients everyday that need prior authorizations. The staff here sent my MRIs to one of their preferred imaging facilities. I scheduled three weeks ahead. Imaging facility had 3 MRIs denied for not meeting medical necessity. Laughable since I need several surgeries and also can't use my left hand and am in excruciating pain from c-spine injuries, hand/wrist injuries, and a knee injury (painful to walk, drive, even at rest). When I call the office no one helps really. When I call the imaging facility, no one helps. I called my insurance, but I do not have time to work on this on my own. I'm paying for this to be done. Barbour Orthopedics states the denials and/or communication from imaging must be lost in "faxes". Absolutely freaking laughable. I know every inch of how a medial office runs. Someone needs to act now, or I'll leave this or practice asap. Call my induce and get the denial notifications if you don't have them! Also, when I found out about the denials, plus one order never received by the imaging facility, someone should have acted then. I was told my orders were sent to another imaging facility when I notified Barbour Ortho of the denials and non/received order. They were not sent. Never received! Plus a peer to peer review or appeal needs to be done for the denials. I mean, do I need to come do your job? I will and better than any of their employees. I scheduled the MRIs three weeks in advance. Imaging facility submitted prior auths m one week before my spot. Absolutely laughable! I called the day before my appointment to confirm and they didn't even tell me about the denials, which were several days prior. I did my diligence. If I didn't know the "medical world" as I do, I would have most likely gone for the MRIs. I would have paid an amount they quoted me, which my insurance covers all imaging at 100%. I have zero out of pocket costs. I would have had to fight to be reimbursed and the imaging facility would have had to attempt a "retro authorization". Not a guarantee of coverage/payment. Be aware of imaging not done at Barbour. Seems like a scam to me at AHI. Barbour ortho needs to hire staff to complete imaging auths on their own. Facilities that pts are referred to, are slow and sorry, but they suck. I'm very upset, severely in pain, and really happy I took a day off work for no reason. Management @ Barbour, please call me. This needs to be discussed. Excuse any typos. I cannot use my left hand to type properly. I continue to suffer daily. Severely! I do not recommend this clinic.

I received a call from Edward Oakley ( Vice President ) while I was sitting the reception area. I was quite upset and Mr Oakley disarmed me immediately by telling me that he cared about me and about my care. Then there was a FaceTime with Dr Barbour who was actually at their other location that day. I was blown away that both men took the time to reach out to me personally to reassure me and to bestow confidence. It worked and they took the anxiety I was feeling away. Surgery day was uneventful and I felt safe the entire time. With Covid-19, there was some apprehension. It's been 6 weeks now and my knee is so much better than it was. I want to send out a big THANK YOU to all members of the Barbour Orthopaedics team for taking such great care of me. The Anesthesiologist was very warm and quite funny. Because of the sedation meds, I cant recall his name. I do remember his face was the last one I remember seeing before I went to sleep.

Being a Retired RN, I knew to Appreciate & Made Appts for Myself & My Husband! In Amy's office, She used Great Models of Arteries w/Varying Degrees of Plaque, Other Organ Models & Drawings as Well for Education Purposes Supporting Preventative Imaging for Purpose of Early Detection of Disease thus Early Treatment. She did a Wonderful Job! During the "Informative" Pillar of this Presentation She added the Need of Routine Preventative Imaging to Prolong One's Life. At times I felt as though the Message She was Sending is: if you want to live to be Old (90+) Routine Imaging is a Must. The Special Prices for Various Packages were presented such as a "Study" Package, Set # of Scans at a Special Price, Membership Package..... The Prices were Exorbitant! Thousands & Thousands of Dollars! I recall 1 package price being $16,000 before "The Special"! When I informed our Rep we were Not Interested in Any Package, Not Trying to Live as Long as Her Example "Jimmy Carter", We only want the Imaging Offer we Heard of on WSB. She informed Us She wasn't aware of it & would need to ask a Co Worker for details. To Summarize: Preventative Healthcare is Wonderful! I informed Amy We could Save Her Time by letting Her know We ONLY Want the Special Advertised on WSB & we were told She Still Needed do the Presentation (that wasn't on WSB). I started visiting the practice with my second pregnancy after switching from Kaiser over to another insurance provider. This practice shares on call shifts with another OBGYN practice, unfortunately I ended up with one of their doctors I was forced to have a c-section although I had no issues with my labor. It was very late at night and the doctor was clearly very tired, and wanting to sleep. I complained every day about extreme pain and asked to see her on multiple occasions, she showed up on day 5 post surgery and told me to take morphine - said it would have little to no effect on baby while breastfeeding. I chose not to take the risk. She never looked at my incision. The pain continued, I followed up with her in the office less than one week later because my pain was 10/10 and my incision was really bothering me. Again she dismissed the pain by saying it was normal and pushed morphine on me - I declined. They never checked my temperature, blood pressure, or urine during that visit. A few hours later my blood pressure and temperature spiked, concerned about my well being I left my baby and went to the ER. ER doc ran some imaging and said I had a severe infection that had spread across my lower and upper abdomen, this would've been visible to any doctor who had taken a look at my incision. As a parent and doctor, he said he would've never been okay with his own wife breastfeeding an infant while taking morphine. I received great treatment from him, and he actually called me on 3 different occasions to see how I was doing! My baby's pediatrician even called twice to make sure I was recovering okay. Guess how many times Dr. Durairaj followed up? ZERO. Don't Visit This Doctor
