Charging $150 USD per person for a twelve person dinner, I watched as a mother & daughter cooked our meal as Tone peeled & chopped vegetables occasionally while barking orders at both them & his guests. Upon arrival, he proceeded to demand the kitchen be cleaned as it was not part of his services. Our group underwent a cat 4 hurricane that went well thru 7am and got a pretty late start to the morning. I totally understand needing space to prep, but there's a way to ask someone like " hey guys, as soon as the kitchens clean I can get started". When it was time for dinner which had a majority vegans & vegetarians, he served salsas & sauces containing fish & bugs which are not appropriate for either, claiming I didn't send him the proper information in front of my guests. I sent a spreadsheet over a week before which he complimented on thoroughness but clearly didn't read or allocate quantities for those with restrictions properly. On top of this, he claimed a sauce put over fish was still vegan/vegetarian. I'm someone who will eat anything, but I'm paying a crazy amount of money per person to ensure there's enough food, especially for those with dietary restrictions. As the evening came to an end, he explained he'd be taking the leftovers from our meal, rather than boxing them up for us. Again, I've paid $150 USD per person---how does anyone professional or hospitality oriented think this is appropriate? So in conclusion, if you want to support modern colonialism & exploitation be sure to book Tone. You'll be sure to be disappointed.

The captain had a contact at Ve el Mar, where the Chef prepared a section on the fish for us. We arrived at the restaurant for our reservation time. Located right on the beach with live music playing and watching the sunset. We ordered drink Coconut Shrimp for an appetizer which was delicious by the way. Our catch of the day came out prepared two different ways BBQ style Chipotle and Garlic with butter, rice and veggies. Since we never had sailfish before was quite the treat. Let me start by saying the fish was smooth melt in your mouth with no fishy aftertaste, that we are use to back home. Was prepared to perfection in our opinion, we found the spice just enough to complement the fish. The service was fantastic made sure are drinks were well taken care of. Compliments to the Chef! The live music sang Spanish and English music was wonderful!! When in the area a must try restaurant.

My wife had shrimp in garlic and had the same veggies. The bad: We also ordered a ribeye steak to share and create our own surf n turf. The steak was overcooked and tough. We ordered it medium rare. The service started good but got worse as the night progressed. We were also constantly telling the solicitors "no". They constantly interrupted our dinner. The price was too much for the quality of food. I believe there are better options for dinner around town, but I would skip this one if I were you.

We had Coconut Shrimp as recommended by the waitress and ordered Guacamole and Chips with our bottles of Mexican Coca-Cola. All of us were concerned about food borne illness so we were wary and cautious but everything subsequently turned out okay. The Coconut Shrimp were six large prawns served in a fresh coconut shell with salsa. I was used to this preparation as having tiny bits of coconut in a fried coating. However, these shrimp had a substantial coating of moist, fresh shredded coconut which was then covered by a light batter and crispy panko crust. This is definitely a coconut shrimp. The shrimp is sweet from the coconut and is a very different preparation and taste. Not bad for those who love a pronounced coconut flavor. The various salsas provided a different taste to the shrimp and were fresh tasting. The cooked vegetables, chayote and carrots, that came with the meal were very flavorful sides to the shrimp. The Guacamole was freshly made and tasted very rich and flavorful. The texture is creamy and was a perfect accompaniment to the freshly fried corn tortilla chips. Overall, one of the better tasting restaurant guacamole that I have ever had. One suggestion is to keep the restaurant menu with you or take pictures of the menu pages for the items ordered. After the conversion to US Dollars from Mexican Pesos, we realized the whole meal with sodas came to US $60. I realize that tourism is basically the only local economy in this area but the price is steep even in US terms and price gouging is apparently rampant. Just be aware.
