The installer was amazing. He has excellent customer service. The design person wasn't so friendly when I called back with a problem. The same installer returned to fix the problem. Again he was very pleasant to work with. Fixed the problem in no time. He apologized for the designer and the fact nobody called me the day before with a time frame. I'm extremely disappointed with the customer service at Closets by Design. My impression is they cares until I signed on the dotted line. I will never use them again!! Everyone should be aware of how they handle their customers. My master bedroom closet wire rack fell down in November. We decided on Closets by Design because the customer service was exceptional even though their pricing was a bit higher than the others. Closets by Design confirmed my appointment for my March installation date on the Friday prior to installation on that Monday. The installers installed only part of my closet. Then told me that they don't have the rest to install because it was on back order. He was unable to tell me when they would have it. The installer told me I would have to call the project manager. My husband and I called multiple times for three or four days before we could get a straight answer from Closets by Design. This didn't happen until my husband was was finally able to call & talk to the manager. At this point, we were extremely frustrated. We paid top dollar for our closet. And no one at Closets by Design cared enough to give us a heads up that they only had a portion of our closet prior to installing it. And we ordered our closet back in December with a March installation date. Closets by Design had plenty of time in my opinion to give us a heads up. Our final installation date was for 10 days later. My husband and I told Closets by Design numerous times that they would have to come back out sometime after 1pm. I worked night shift the night before. They didn't call us prior to this installation day. My husband had to call them in the morning. To make a long story a little shorter, I only got 3:30 hours of sleep due to them not calling me prior to coming back out again. I had to work again that night. I'm a nurse at a local hospital. So needless to say, I was extremely frustrated with them. Closets by Design has done absolutely nothing to fix their multiple mistakes. This leads me to believe that they don't care about my customer satisfaction. I will not be using them again. **The manager from Closets by Design called me shortly after posting this review. He apologized for the mistakes the company made and provided me with compensation for my time. I appreciate the apology and the compensation. The manager was very professional. read more

We hired Closets by Design for a storage solution in our newly remodeled basement garage/laundry room. The experience was great up until installation day! The design measurements were taken inaccurately, and an unleveled floor issue that was discussed BEFORE the contract was signed (and I was reassured that it would aesthetically resolved upon installation) was disregarded. On installation day, what should have been a 1-2 hour installation job took 4.5 hours, with the work left undone! The installation team tried their best (and were very professional), but the solutions that were suggested by the head office to resolve the design mistakes were abysmal. The installers were instructed to cut off 2 in from the cabinet on site in the final hour to correct the measurement error. When I refused a patched job and asked that the base be taken down until all issues were resolved, the office staff refused. So I was left with a job partially done, a skeleton closet that was hovering and unhinged, and an unapologetic and defensive attitude by CD. When I suggested the solution for correcting the hovering base with moulding, I was told that this is an addition that I had not paid for under contract! The fact that I had paid for the 2" that they were cutting off due to design measurement error did not count, and the fact that I had discussed the unleveled floor issue with the designer BEFORE did not count. I have to wait for weeks now until the job is completed. All in all, I am very sad and disappointed at a service that, up to signing and paying, seemed to have been a great solution for our space. read more

We needed to get a new closet setup as part of a remodel project. After looking at a number of places, I started to feel like Goldilocks... IKEA (too complicated), Container Store (expensive and ugh don't get me started), Cincinnati Closets (never called back), Organized Living (closed all the stores but not the website). Finally we got a flyer for Closets by Design advertising a sale! Just right! Closets by Design will send a designer to your house to measure and consult with you to make sure you get the right setup for your needs. It's so easy, even my husband can do it. There are a lot of upgrade options to navigate, but if you just stick with the basics, you'll be all set. We did end up going with the upgraded maple finish (instead of basic white) which I don't regret for a second. The installer showed up when they said they would, took less time to install than predicted and left the area spotless. Couldn't ask for a better experience. If I did have to point out one negative, it took 4-5 weeks from the date of the order until we finally had the install (not sure this is always the case, there was a special promotion going on at this time). It wasn't a problem for us since we were still under construction, but I'm here to report the facts. To make it even better, they were running a 30% off promotion plus 20% franchise promotion - net almost half off for closet. And I lived happily ever after. read more

We had a great experience with closets by design. We have a large walk-in closet that had some permanent fixtures that had to be worked around. They did a great job. The sales person, Linnea, was very professional and accommodated my busy schedule as the design was being developed. The installers, especially Timothy and Tim, were very professional, pleasant, respectful of my home, and flexible. The installation occurred during the COVID-19 period when they were allowed to be open, but people had to wear masks. They absolutely did and I truly appreciated that. Over the years, I have had several different total home renovations, home additions, remodels, etc - - both large and small. This was the best experience I have had with any modification project. Very disappointed in the terrible customer service and I use the word service VERY loosely. We waited months only for the day to arrive and NO ONE showed up on even called. We had to call them only to get an attitude in response. Then the next day when were were informed someone would arrive the next morning, no one arrived until nearly 2:00 PM. You guessed it they could NOT finish the job and now I have to miss 3 days of work without explanation or apology. Keep in mind we paid half (of 4 installs) up front. This JOKE of a company has sale agents (Akeila) who are con-artist. She lied about about being present for install and walk you though the process is all LIES to get you. Akeila lied and said she was on the way, the stopped responding. Unless she lives in another state or got lost she still has not made it back. Akeila did not even call to confirm the appointment I had to call her and she chooses when to respond. I looked at quite a few places for my built-ins in 2004: shelves and cabinets for the living room and home office + murphy bed set-up for my 2nd bedroom in a condo. I liked all of the suggestions for the home office, such as a drawer to hide the printer away, as well as a drawer for the computer hard drive, which I had at the time. The service was excellent and the project was delivered on time. Floors in condos are often uneven, so on site during installation they had to make adjustments. This past year a few of the lights in my under cabinet home office were out, and the springs on the Murphy bed as not as light to move as before (don't use it that often), so I called the owner as I recalled that the bed mechanism came with a lifetime guarantee. He sent a team right away to adjust the bed mechanism, and when they could not get it working properly, they replaced the mechanism at no cost. Now I can raise the bed again with only using 2 fingers! It is a fabulous choice for condominiums if you don't have guests that often and don't want to take up the space with a queen sized bed which you only use on occasion. They also replaced the lights at no cost. People ooh and ahh when they see my built-ins. A friend in my building liked it so much, that she finally installed a whole wall system with murphy bed in her condo....and only wishes she had done that 10 years ago when she moved in. I will be moving to another state soon and plan to go to the Closets by Design in that area for the built-ins I will need as that location also has excellent reviews. read more

We had them do our master closet back in the summer. The designer listened to what we wanted, looked at what I had sketched out on my own in advance. She made suggestions and tweaked our sketches to make them even better! We love it! We just had them back to do our laundry room. It's much simpler because it is not a big room but so much storage. Our 20 year old master closet still had the builder's basic set up from another closet company. The laminate had yellowed and it was worn. I called another closet company that was ridiculously expensive, and Closets by Design to get estimates. Our salesperson, Gauri, came to the house and measured our clothing, shoes, accessories, space, everything, to determine a custom design for our needs. She was meticulous and not pushy at all. It took her about 30 minutes to sketch a working design. Communication between us, our salesperson, and their office design staff flowed efficiently. The installers were extremely efficient and kind. They had to come back and adjust the height of a tie rack and move a belt rack to another location at our request, no problem and no charge. The salesperson has followed up several times to make sure everything is the way we want it. The closet is perfect and my husband and I are enjoying it fully. After she explained the upgrade options, I selected a few and there was no pressure to add more. She wasn't looking to see me the moon, only what I wanted. Once it was ready, it was installed perfectly in one day by an extremely polite professional. After I settled in, I decided I needed a few more shelves and again, Jennifer was extremely helpful. I recently bought a 114 year old home that had closets but no hanging system. I contacted Closets by Design who sent a rep out March 13, 2019 that spent 4 hours taking measurements, etc. I was not having a deluxe system installed, only a rail to hang clothes. I agreed that evening to go with their design, signed a contract and paid for half of the total price as required. They called within a couple of days with an install date of May 8, 2019. Approx a month later, they called and left a message to let me know they were no longer taking my project! I was shocked! I called them back and reminded them that I had signed a contract with them to do the work! A few days later, the "manager" of the office called to say that they would take on the project, had come up with a different design for the plaster wall issue and would stick with the original install date. Two weeks before the install, a rep from their office called to confirm that they would be there. A week before the install date, they again left a message telling me they were NOT going to take the project. The job was installing a hanging rod across two closets. That's it! Nothing sophisticated. There was no explanation from the manager or the owner. Now I'm two months into the plan, had put in for my day off for the install and just a week before, they cancel out of the blue. I'm sure that most closet business is from old homes. Yes, my closets have plaster walls but I would think that if they were professionals at what they do, they would know how to work with plaster walls. I would NEVER use a place that cannot stand by their word. They are a complete joke of a business! read more
