I had a meh experience there. I took in some clothes that were purchased in the last 18 months and just didn't work for me... some still had tags on. They bought nothing stating that the dress was out of season and the others had animal hair on them even though I had cleaned them. I donated these items to charity. Someone will happily use them and they will not go into a landfill. ... I had to wait a long time to have my stuff appraised and the staff, while not outright rude was less than welcoming The other thing is that most of the clothes being sold there were nothing I would consider wearing or just huge! read more

Terrible selling experience, will not come back. I didn't get any text update for 40 minutes. I go back in, no one had looked through my bag. Karen, who took my items, clocked out right after accepting my bag and didn't get anyone to process it. They tell me to hang around, it might be 10 minutes. After 1 minute I hear a blonde woman bitch to her coworker about my clothes. I don't think she knew I was watching her. These clothes came clean out of my closet and were not junior sized as she claimed. Maybe don't donate here if you're in your 20s. I have sold approximately 50 items to this location. The clothes have never been worn, from Knuth in Pepper Pike, Nordstrom, North Face etc. Still have price tags. There are 2 women , Peyton and Denise who always are glad to see me because they love most of what I bring in. Obviously, buying is at their discretion and I don't expect them to be interested in everything. Today I go in and there is a dour woman who doesn't even greet me.she reluctantly looked at my clothes while chatting with I presume to be a friend. She eventually purchased a couple of items and said she didn't like anything else. Last week, I bought in the identical clothes in different colors. She said her name was Karen and was the manager! I am very disappointed in this place!!! Today I was discriminated against not just today but previously. I tried to give them a second chance and it backfired!! When checking in this lady whom has a short wig & green blouse & green loafers checked me in & smirked at me for coming in. Not welcoming at all & didn't speak! I overheard her call the whole store to the computer to see my selling history on the computer not to mention they were ignoring the customer who needed there help in front of them to gossip about me. Look I make more money in a day selling at these places then they make bi-weekly and that's were the jealous comes in as to why shes tallying up my money from all the times I sold items!! This woman told the girls that I just sold a few days ago at another location!! "You dont have to take anything honestly its really up to you!!" I will say the dark skinned woman in pink was very sweet! The white woman next to her was quite soaking things up. She felt bad of how she treated me and said she's sorry I was mistreated and she had no idea why she showed the whole store my selling history!! I left smiling & unbothered realizing it's a mental illness & identifying the narcissist behavior in plain sight & walked out. Nonetheless; I have online closets that I sell my items and when I have no room for it. I sell my overflow clothing to places like clothes mentor & Plato's closet. I have a masters degree in psychology , 2X author & I'm a content creator who has 30 thousand followers on all social media platforms. For a reseller I am very shocked to say this place is very clean, organized and it smells like detergent when you walk in which is really good! I have read tons of reviews and spoke to the staff in regards to the requirements of items having to be clean, just washed and are very strict as to what they have in this store. Prices range. The lowest priced item was a $3 mini body spray but as far as clothes the lowest price was a $4 plain shirt. I'm not giving this place a full 5 stars because I do believe the prices are still off. For example two Nike shoes are both sold for $20 and one has a lot of wear and tear and the other is in okay condition. Just because they are both Nike shoes they are being sold for $20 which doesn't make sense to me. I believe the price that it is being resold for should also consider conditioning of the items. ---Policy---- Items being sold must be clean, washed, good condition and sellable. Clothes Mentor = crack for me these days. It's my most recent obsession after having discovered the store as a seller a few weeks ago in my hometown. Learning that this place is a chain was like finding out that that huge present under the tree is for me. Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Clause! I am always on the hunt for fashionable clothes at a great price, and I figured the weekend was as good a time as any to scout around my current stomping ground. I knew this CM was nearby, so I decided to pop in a check it out. The nice thing about CM is that it doesn't feel like a resale shop. It is well-organized, uncluttered, and carries the same brands at every store (Dooney and Bourke, Coach, Vera Bradley, Banana Republic, J Crew, and higher end brands like Paige Denim, and the occasional authentic designer item). This store was no exception, and it felt less cramped than a few of the other CM's I had been in. I scored today with some brand new black patent leather pumps, just like I had been looking for for the last few months. Sure I could have walked into any department store and dropped $70 on a pair of these, but I like a bargain more than anything else. Instead I paid $4 for my shoes, store tags and all still still on them! Expanding on the crack analogy from above, some people prefer an unnatural high, but I get giddy walking out of some place with an amazing bargain on clothing. I pretty much skipped out of the store on this particular day with my deal. Bottom line, this is a great place to look for deals on designer wear for less. Just ok... I've been to several resale shops including other clothes mentor locations and the staff here just never seems to be that friendly. There is a large selection of many different brands and sizes including maternity which is nice. They are a bit unfair when it comes to sales.... for example they will advertise a sale of say 20% off the whole store including designer items but then they pick and choose which items they just don't want to include in the sale and pull them from the shelves and hide them until after the sale. I feel they should just be honest and add this to the fine print. There are 2 other resale shops near this location that are much more pleasant to shop at and more transparent with their business practices. read more

I frequently visit Clothes Mentor to see what new has come in. I feel though the pricing is fair and the staff is friendly. I've bought many different items from this location over the past year. Women of all sizes can find something that looks great from here. The clothes are in good condition tend to be styles that are not trending. I'd like to see a larger clearance section year round, though. They do have specific times of the year when they increase their clearance options to move things out of their store. read more

Great resale store. I frequent here for sales and purchases. They are fair on buying-- they check for season, style, and clothing age. They have never been rude about rejected clothing and are always friendly and fair. Their stock is well curated--good brands, clean products, etc. Shout out to the employees for working hard! -1 star because their website has shifted to solely luxury items. I loved when they would post brands like free people, j. Crew, Madewell, Lululemon-- it would motivate me to go into the store and check it out. Tidy, organized, and from what I've seen, the vast majority of things are priced under $20. I am surprised, however, by some of the items listed for more than $10 which I would consider to be budget clothing that is simply in good condition. I mean, let's not forget that it *is* used clothing after all. It's market value is technically closer to zero. I was recently deceived by an email blast about a "huge summer blow-out sale!", only to find the same dregs which had been floating around clearance for $3 all season. Nevertheless, I always manage to scare-up something that I like. "We buy your used clothing" is 99% a gimmick to get you through the door. Success in that arena is spartan. If they really wanted to buy your stuff then they would advertise the cut-and-dry standards for clothing which they accept. (For example, nothing over 2 years old.) I've witnessed many people come in with a heap of items, only to have every last piece rejected. Seeing as it's not from their local customer base, where CM actually gets the clothing it sells is a mystery! read more

APPALLED!!!! Horrible customer service. I just left the Mayfield Heights clothes Mentor store with my 24 year old daughter. I haven't been to the store since it's grand opening several years ago because I was unimpressed with the store then. My daughter came in town for a visit from Los Angeles with a few bags of clothing for resale. I thought we would give Clothes Mentor another try since I hadn't been there in several years. I am extremely sorry we wasted our time. The entire staff was rude and extremely unwelcoming the second we entered the store. The nasty looks and rolling of the eyes were completely off putting and unnecessary. All came out of there mouths was "NO!" plastic bags (didn't know we needed to bring the clothes in a laundry basket), "NO!" junior clothes, "NO!" hangers (mind you...I didn't hand anything to them with a hanger on it, the hanger was in my hand, so the worker's reply to me then was to take the clothing out of the bag then). They acted as if they were doing us a favor to look at our items "this ONE time" as they said. It took them maybe 2 - 5 minutes to go through the 2 bags of clothing. I can't complain, it's easily organized and have a good selection. They are very picky about what clothes you bring in--they actually have a book that checks the labels to make sure it's "current," even though many companies like Banana Republic or Ralph Lauren never change their formulaic style. I love this place! It's clean, there's plenty of parking, and it's well lit as well as adequately staffed. This store is a gem, but you have to do a bit of work sometimes to make sure what you're buying is going to work for you. Many of the items with retail tags have manufacturing defects. So, while you may be able to purchase something NWT, keep in mind, you really should try it on to make sure, because you'll find: the wrong size tag (mfr has a size 10 tag on a size 6 dress), marks on clothing, unravelling seam, missing button, hidden tears, and zipper malfunctions. Some of these are also just cut bizarrely. For example, I found a new BGBG dress, but it was cut incorrectly and was actually crooked. You can find really beautiful things in here, just keep the above in mind. There are plenty of dressing rooms and the sales staff is very nice. Just take your time, and don't just grab something and assume it's all good (even in your normal size/brand!). read more

To write a fair review as a seller entails knowing what the Clothes Mentor standards are for accepting items. I wasn't clear on them so I ended up disappointed in what clothes they accepted and what they offered me monetarily. I took in a bunch of Prana pants and dresses, Athleta workout clothes, Big Star jeans, barely worn Converse sneaks, and a Michael Kors dress with the price tag still on it. The only thing they accepted was the MK dress and they offered me $4 for it. Sooo....the long and short of it is this...they only want super good condition items that are 1-2 years old, MAX. It was almost hard to believe considering how many ding dong Nine West handbags they had in the store but my $80 mint condition Prana pants were rejected because they were 3 years old. So anyway, no sense complaining. Some things are meant to be sold here, some things are meant to be sold on Ebay, and some things are meant to be donated to Goodwill. Now that I know their standards of acceptance I will make adjustments to the items I take in to sell and save myself a lot of time and effort! The store is nicely organized. Best deals, IMHO, are jackets and jeans. No such thing as designer sunglasses. Hit up Nordstrom Rack for those. read more

I took in a mix of store purchased items (J crew, Gap, Nordstrom's, Loft) some of which were band new. NOTHING was purchased. Using the excuse that some of the items were too worn (?) or out dated (seriously) many of them were brand new or like new. Granted my style is more conservative than most. However, conservative is not out dated. Not sure if they just didn't have to cash to purchase designer items?? Walking around the store many of the items were in very used condition (donation appropriate). I won't go back. Maybe they should consider the concept - if you want people to buy from you- then buy something from them. Poor business model. read more

They are very picky about what they take and make sure you watch what they are doing alot of times they do not look at the clothes you are trying to sell back.. the mananger is the best to look clothes that you are selling back make sure you ask for her. read more

I decided I would try selling some of my clothing and shoe items that were hardly ever worn or never worn at all (some still had original tags). I had an older woman check me in, she gabbed nonstop which was very annoying, but anyway she told me there was an hour and a half wait, which I was okay with. I browsed around, store was very clean and put together. Well after waiting, she began rifling through my stuff like it was garbage. Have you I had ironed and pressed everything before bringing it in. I also had about 8 pairs of size 10 shoes. 4 out of the 8 pairs of shoes were never worn and the other 4 were maybe worn twice. They were all in excellent shape and were individual placed in plastic bags. One pair of shoes were brand new, never worn and originated at about $70 and were only a few years old. After looking at the shoes and boots that were on display I surely had no doubt that what I brought in would be acceptable. She took all of the shoes accept two pair (these two had never been worn), she said one had frays in them and the other one had a few dust spots which I easily wiped off. Whatever. So, she continued to rifle through the clothes I had neatly ironed and had on hangers. "This is old we cannot take, we don't take that brand (after telling me there really wasn't anything they didn't take), these capri's still had the tags on them. I also had a brand new never worn boot cut Levis that still had the tags on them, original price $58.00. In all she took 6 pairs of shoes, two brand new dresses (never worn) and a pair of Levis. I was quoted $15.00....Really? Really? Maybe if I would have gotten someone different the outcome might have been different, I will never waste my time again. I am a plus size woman and know how hard it is to find really nice, high end clothes for reasonable prices. I could have made more on my items standing outside your store and selling to people before coming in. Live and Learn. read more

I had a really bad experience trying to sell with clothes mentor. After bringing my stuff in and asking for a text when they we're done looking through it, I waited over an hour with no text. I went back in the store only to be largely ignored by the staff while standing right in front of the counter. This frustrated me so I left and came back after still not getting a text for ANOTHER HOUR. I went back into the store and asked if my stuff had been looked through, to which an employee rudely replied "It's been done." So I said, "Well I never received a text or a call so I didn't know." She then said, "we don't text or call," even though they do and then tried to backtrack by saying, "Well we do texts, did you ask for one?" I'm not sure if she was the manager or buyer but she was extremely rude and talked to like it was unbearable to even speak to me despite the fact that I was being very patient with their horrible service. After all of this and after seeing that all my bags had been placed straight on the ground and not even on the shelves, I was told they weren't interested in any of my stuff. I had over three bags full of clothes, some still with tags on, that fit the criteria for women's spring clothing. I do not believe they ever actually looked through my belongings and I was treated horrible as a seller and as a potential buyer. This review is only for selling items. I called in advance to confirm items I have are items they would want to buy. I was told to have everything folded in a basket and bring anything that was in good condition. So I packed three bins of sweaters, dresses, dress pants, ect. all from saks, nordstrom, black white market and ann taylor. All were in excellent condition but were three to five years old. Half of the items were still in style just because they were plain colors like black or grey with no patterns. I drop everything off and they said they would call me when they were done looking at everything. Fifteen minutes later they text me saying they are done. I get there and they tell me they can only buy one item out of 200 because how old everything is. How is a plain black dress or sweater out of fashion. Seriously! If there would have informed me on the phone about items being to old after two years I wouldn't have wasted my day doing this. i was looking at what they had for sell and nothing looked up to date within one year and was not impressed with their selections. So then I had to haul everything back to my car and no one working even held the door for me when three people were just standing around. Especially one employee that was about 5 feet tall with medium length dark hair. She was not friendly when I came in or when I left. So selling here is a mistake and buying didn't look promising. read more

The customer service here is absolutely amazing, so that's what the one star is for. As I brought in maybe 50 items, in the hour or so they browsed through my belongings I took my time and looked through their current selections. With the prices and selection of clothing they had, I just knew a number of my belongings would be selected. They chose to keep maybe 12 items, she offered me $66 okay I know they only give you a percentage of what they will sale the items at. But get serious, I was in the middle of moving and really just wanted to get rid of some things. I wish I would have just given them to a women's shelter as what I did with the remainder than to be insulted with such a price. I know for a fact atleast 6 of the items they kept still had tags on them and each of those items were marked atleast $19.99 not to include a brand new pair of heels still in the box and plastic for $49.99. It's cool as I said I wanted to get rid of some things and figured, hey maybe I could get some value back. Yes I did allow them to keep the items and left, but since then have done further research as I should've and found true consignment shops in Ohio that atleast respect you and the value of good clothing. It bothered me after I left because I felt like I just threw good clothing in the garbage.
