Sound as an Irish Pound Lads & Lasses!…read more First off, I would drive 2-3 hours for a good round of golf, and driving to Glengarry is no different. It's almost a straight shot on the 417 East, on the other side of Ottawa, almost at the Quebec border, even the US border as well, but the drive and fall scenery are magnificent. The course is a bit difficult to navigate to without a map or some type of navigational device, but that doesn't detract from the overall impression I have. I am surprised there aren't more reviews for this course than what is out there, and on the sites I frequent, there are none. The drive up is nice, the trees lining the drive up, but it's the view from the first (and 10th) tee box that start the majestic views for this course. The challenges vary from hole to hole, some have wide welcoming fairways with challenging pin placements, other holes require precision golf leading up to a wide green. Some of the greens are generally flat with little break, and others will wreak havoc on your inertia if you're not careful. But that is one of the beauties of the game. There are a couple of holes that will tempt you to "go for it" and shave a couple of strokes off your round, but beware. If you miss, you'll add those strokes you went to subtract. The staff I met there are extremely friendly and cordial, as well as some of the other patrons I encountered, which always makes the experience that much better. My biggest point of a golf course are tee box repair boxes, which Glengarry has. If you see 300+ golfers in a day and no means to repair divots (one of the biggest golf etiquette points), the tee boxes can look like a mud pit to say the least. The repair kits take a second to sprinkle some dirt mix on your divot and you go, for those that don't know about repairing your divots. For the duffer to the scratch golfer, I recommend Glengarry. You will not be disappointed!!!

They advertise a $3.99 breakfast on weekdays before 11am! Our Sunday, 2 egg breakfast with bacon, hashbrowns and toast was about $5.99 i think. Amazing. The view is fantastic. Looking right out on the Seaway and ships going in or out of the Iroquois locks. But... the poor waitress working that day was just frazzled. It was PACKED when we got there. My Mum said she's never sen the place so full before. Only two tables empty, and not even cleared yet. I think there may have been a wedding the night before in town as some of the customers where dressed up, but a bit ragged and we overheard some wedding chit chat. The waitress just couldn't handle the amount of people in there. We waited forever for our tea & coffee but were very understanding as the waitress came by and apologized several times. It was actually another customer that got up and started refilling everyone's coffees to help out (small town folk are just so nice). The food took a while to come as well. Maybe they have a wee tiny little kitchen back there? Not sure, because eggs and bacon don't take long. But I'm assuming they didn't have the space or the equipment to cook all the order simultaneously. No biggie. If the service was slow every time that would be a problem. But my Mum assured me that this was most definitely a hectic morning for the staff as that usually the service is very friendly and prompt. I'm sure when I visit my Mum again we'll come for breakfast here again. A-Ok!

I have been using the driving range at White Sands for about five years. One thing that bothers me…read moreis the poor layout of distance flags. Many of the prescribed yardages do not match the flags. And the designated flags on the chart do not match those in the field. Yardage boards - 50-100-150-200 etc. would be a big improvement. At the same time, the course is pristine. The golf lessons I took were conducted in a very professional way and were detailed - expensive but resulted in great improvement in my game. Come on guys, give us a better way to practice and we will keep coming back.

The course has 9 holes (all of which are par 3), a driving range as well as a practice area for chipping and putting. I have been very impressed by the prices. When you think of golf, you usually think very expensive, but the prices at White Sands are definitely decent. If you want to play nine holes, it costs only $18. The price for 18 (aka, playing the course twice) is $28.50. My favourite is the Practice and Play package. For only $22, you get a basket of balls for the driving range, unlimited use of the practice area and a game of 9 holes. This is beyond decent compared to some of the courses in the Ottawa region. They also have memberships at varying prices based on the length of commitment and offer senior's discounts. Like most courses, they also offer rentals of pull carts and clubs at a reasonable price. I usually book a tee-time just to ensure I don't have to wait, but I have dropped in on occasion and been able to tee off almost right away. There is an area inside by the registration desk that sells some clubs as well as drinks to keep you hydrated while you are on the green. While the course may not be the best maintained, it is pretty scenic and features nice greenery and ponds. Bring a visor though, the afternoon sun beats down pretty strong! I like White Sands because I do not feel the pressure to play quick and race through my game to accommodate the regulars who are far more advanced, and thus quicker at laying the course. I am able to take my time and (attempt) to respect the learning process. Golf Season is here! My clubs are polished and waiting to go and I can't wait to get out on the green. White Sands will be my first stop, as I am likely rusty after a long Ottawa winter and will need a lot of practice!
