As gyms go, Health and Sports has a pretty top notch reputation. Sponsor of the Auckland Blues, it…read moreis perfectly normal to find yourself exercising next to some of the most cut and fit rugby players in the country. However this isn't the only reason Health and Sports has gained a reputation. This gym boasts state of the art equipment - you can browse the internet while using their cardio machines, a lap pool, sauna and a variety of classes every day run by trained professionals. My personal favourites are the yoga, Pilates and step classes. As someone who finds it difficult to motivate myself to go to the gym regularly, I've found participating in classes is the way to go. Run at set times each week, they are easy to fit in to your day and will push you harder than any independent gym session will. Tip: Personal trainers and massages from trained Physio therapists and chiropractors are also available upon request.

This gym has harassed me online on other sites, hidden billing details from me and sent me…read moreunsolicited spam two years after I left them to join Snap Fitness. Here is the timeline of events: * I joined in late 2012. At the time they told me that their billing is done through an outside company so that if I quit, I would need to contact the debit company to stop the payments because the gym would not do so. * About a year later (give or take six months) I quit and asked the receptionist for the details of the debit company so that I could stop the payments. She claimed to have "lost" the debit company's details (including their name so I couldn't even Google it!) and told me she would call me back ASAP once she had the answer. She never did. I had to go back in later and demand the details or else I wouldn't leave. I was still charged for my gym membership during this time (whats more, the debit company requires a months notice during which the customer is still charged so I was still paying them 30 days after I was finally given the information that I had to fight for) and they never gave me an apology for the money, time and gas wasted. * Around May 2015, someone on Reddit asked for gym recommendations in the St Lukes area. I told them to avoid this place because they had screwed me over. A worker from the gym (who gave a full name, contact phone number and introduced himself as the person who could help resolve issues) posted a very long, sarcastic, defensive and hostile comment accusing me of lying. The few parts where he offered "help" were very passive aggressive. It was an extremely unprofessional comment and when I replied calling him out on it, he posted another comment vehemently defending his staff because he thought they could do no wrong. His comments were downvoted and he only deleted them when someone else pointed out how bad he looked. * Today, I received an unsolicited spam email from them trying to get me back. The email was quite short, yet had 11 spelling/grammar mistakes that a spellchecker would have instantly picked up on. I usually don't care about spelling mistakes in informal situations but if you're representing a business then you should get it together. I'm finally writing this review because I'm sick of how lazy and unprofessional this gym is and I'm especially pissed off at how they think it's appropriate to keep my contact details and still send me spam two years after I quit. UPDATE: after demanding that they remove my details from their database over the spam incident (and having the same rude reddit guy confirm that he had done so) they sent me another spam email.

Snap Fitness is a gym that recently opened in the new shopping complex by New World in Mt Roskill…read more Being a new gym, it was still in the process of being able to offer a full range of equipment and services. But I popped in anyway just to check it out and spoke to a young trainer that works there. Apparently Snap Fitness is currently working on getting classes up and running, as well as perfecting the layout of their gym. At $14 a week, it's a reasonably priced gym, though all this being said I admit I have no huge desire to change to Snap Fitness. The gym itself is relatively small and currently only offers a few of each cardio machine (treadmill, cross-trainer and cycle machine), and all the equipment felt quite squished together and unappealing. But maybe that's just me. On the plus side there is no other gym in this area, so Snap Fitness was needed. It's an un-intimidating place that will cater well to the local community. Bonus: This gym is open to members 24 hours a day!

This gym is mainly targetted for general fitness goers or people who don't take fitness that…read moreseriously. From the staff who works there self quoted: 'this is a gym is mainly for general fitness'. This gym has most of all the basic gym equipment needs but if you actually want to train for results avoid ths gym as much as possible. 1. This gym does not tolerate grunters. In my opinion, generally people who get annoyed of grunters are the same lazy people who actually don't workout hard enough and hate on those who actually do out of jeolousy and moan to the management how the grunters are disrupting their silent reading of game of thrones while having an epic 5km/hr walk on the treadmill. Go to the library if you want to workout in silence with your stupid book. 2. Lack of heavy plates. If you want to deadlift and squat heavy, try another gym. They don't have enough heavy plates for one to progress effectively with their lifts. Also they don't like you let the weights to drop on their precious floor from heavy deadlifting. You dropped the weight after a heavy PR set?!, the snap fitness police on their high horse will be coming at you with sirens on giving you a good lecturer how you shouldn't need to lift so much weight and to let the weight down in a controlled manner lol. In conclusion. I would not call this place a gym as that would be misleading. It is a general fitness centre just one step up from the mcdonalds kids playground. It would be a big SNAP in the face to the true fitness community by reconising this place as a gym, it is not a real gym. If you are a soccer mum or someone who wants to workout at a gym instead of at your local school kids monkey bar playground then this gym is for you. Not recommended for serious gym goers bodybuilders or powerlifters who actually want to make good gains and see good progressive results! Don't believe me? Go join this 24hr adult play house for a month and come back put up an honest review like I have.

Recently I decided it was about time I became a regular gym bunny, as its been about two years…read moresince I was. I was happily surprised that this gym was what i was looking for, I think the exterior can give you another story when inside you have a little bitt of everything, and fitness is the priority. This used to be a Northcote plant nursery about four years ago, as I remember it when I first moved to the area. On my first visit I chatted with the friendly trainer on a weekend afternoon as the gym was about to shut. I was welcomed in for a free one week trial where I could try out the three different classes available, and use any of the weights and machines in the gym. I tried out Box fit, which is high intensity boxing class combined with lots of cardio and strength exercises, and also my favourite class the StretchFit which is a combination of Yoga and Pilates. Have to say the seller on my membership was the Stretch fit class because I get such a massive return from it, gives me extra energy and keeps me flexible. The friendly and passionate staff, and top quality fitness gear make this a really great gym. They have competitive prices if you sign up as a couple. I am super happy with the close proximity to where I live as this keeps me regular too.

The classes like BoxFit are a nice change of pace from the usual treadmill and weights (which they have there as well). The staff are all friendly and welcoming. There is a Les Mills Gym, a large swimming pool, a spa pool, some saunas, and even a dive pool with diving boards. I had a visit during the week, before lunch time, so the toddlers pool was booked out with a swim group, so we were offered the fun section of the big pool we just had to share it with some swimmers, which was not a problem at all. The water was a lot cooler than the toddlers pool would have been but my little guy is obsessed with water so that was not a problem. There were a few lifeguards on duty, who were looking after us all, and although a large amount of little seven year old's did show up for weekly sports class, we seemed to all just co exist in the space happily. I am yet to enquire about the gym on site which I think would be so convenient for mums with little children as they have a creche that is connected to the whole complex, talk about convenience. Car park space outside is close to the leisure centre and is also all free to park in if you are using the facilities. The changing rooms, are big enough to have a quick change and the showers were clean, although I think jandals should always be essential in public showers, just a tip. I will be back for sure, as I love the fact that I get to relax and enjoy a swim with my child and we both benefit from it.

Nothing has changed much. There are slides, diving boards, steam rooms, saunas, pools with lanes and a kiddie pool. I love how you no longer have to pay to use the lockers.... You just need to bring your own lock and key. They probably change this because things use to get stolen all the times. So make sure you bring a lock! Another thing that has changed is that It seems like this place has become the ultimate hang out for old asian people during the working week. I am quite shy with walking around naked in the change rooms, but the old asian ladies are not, just a warning!
