Getting back on the in person yoga bandwagon after what felt like an eternal COVID hiatus I find myself at Radiance Power Yoga. A welcoming space that is clean, nurturing and inspiring. My favorite classes here are the flow vinyasa, each instructor bringing their special sauce and magic. They also offer family flow classes as well as prenatal and baby and me. Weekday and weekend classes host a fun community of folks, many of which have been coming here for years. Highly recommend visiting this space. Setting the scene: I consider myself a new age yogi - bring on the heat, bring on the power yoga, & bring on the acrobatic yoga. Before attending my first class the thought of taking something mindful and meditative honestly terrified me. Not knowing what to expect I showed up wearing some new cool yoga gear (for confidence of course) as well as a somewhat open mind. Laura was quick to welcome me to the class and get me signed in (each practitioner receives a card which indicates to the teacher what kind of membership they have. If you ask nicely Laura may offer you a cute animal sticker to adorn your card and make it a bit easier to locate upon check-in). The other class attendees were more warm and welcoming than any class I've taken in the past 14 years I've been practicing. Each time I went up to retrieve a prop the person in front of me in line offered one to me. This is something I frequently do in class and this is the first time I've have the courtesy extended to me - it felt great! The class itself was a rare treat. Stretching and breathing into postures has never felt so good. Rather than huffing, puffing, and sweating through class the vibe and Laura's gentle guidance (and clever sharp humor) set the scene for a truly rejuvenating and healing session (I'm currently struggling with some wrist and knee issues). Today I had the pleasure of bringing my partner along and he proudly proclaimed to the teacher that this 'was the best yoga class he has ever experienced'. Firstly, the teacher Laura is dedicated to working with all kinds of students. Interestingly, she's got a huge heart for Kids with rare diseases and helps them with specific yoga positions. For many years she has taught anatomy for Iyengar students and teachers in locations around the globe. I especially want to emphasize that you get to just be yourself here and not worry about whether you're doing it right, if you look good, or need to be competitive. It's comfortable and welcoming. Sometimes it's fun. Sometimes it's hard. Sometimes it's a new pose you never imagined. Rain or shine, it's happening there, nearly every day of the year. Check it out.

Being not all that familiar with the area I parked…read moredown the road a bit (word to the wise - they do have a lot on the north side of the building) and scurried on over. The building housing the studio is quite large and contains several businesses within it's walls. Don't be tempted by the main door for the building, the studio has it's own door on the north side. Upon entering there's seating, clothing to peruse, free tea, malas, and natural deodorant. Bonus: there's a really funny book on men doing yoga in kilts. You really could spend a whole afternoon here. I checked in with Rose at the front desk, completed my waiver and stowed my belongings in the little cubbies near the changing rooms. The class room itself is just beautiful. Wooden floor, lots of windows, a small stage, and calming artwork. The acoustics are also good. Rose played some sweet jams which set a fun tone for class. Despite years of being upside down (gymnastics, acro yoga, etc.) I felt a bit like a baby horse in this class. Turns out silks don't come naturally to me at all. No worries tho, Rose was there for the rescue. She offered a variety of modifications for how to get into and out of the silks and poses. Classmates were friendly and didn't laugh despite my grunts of discomfort (who knew there'd be a surprise facial release where the silks supported my body). I'll definitely be coming back to check out more of their offerings.

What better way to discover and experience new yoga styles then going with a fellow yoga teacher & taking this awesome class together ;) I do appreciate the 'intro to aerial yoga' session to get acquainted with how things work and basically allowing your body to be comfortable with the silk and suspension. I am use to a more rigorous yoga flow and, though this intro class was pleasant & helpful, I wouldn't recommend it to those wanting an intermediate or advance type session. With that said, it was the perfect pace and difficulty level to gain the basic skills to utilize and build upon to eventually become an aerial expert. After that intro, I feel that I'm personally set to take it up a notch, though one more intro class with the girls would be icing on the learning curve cake. The space is also very welcoming. The layout isn't something I'm use to for a yoga studio but it works out nicely. It's clean and has a homey feel upon entering. They also offer many other courses and special events that may entice you. Just remember to sign up online & save yourself a spot @ the class you'd like to take. It's currently half off for first time visitors and I've also seen a great living social deal for Figure Yoga that may still be available- always a good choice if your local to this place. I look forward to it everyday. It is all because the amazing Shala teachers. Even though I have been practicing at Shala for quite a while, everyday every posture is like a brand new posture to me but with deeper experience. I love it! I have never felt bored! Our amazing instructors lead us to a different zone effortlessly when we are in the class. I consider this my spiritual practice. When COVID hit, the owner and instructor, Octavia and Tam, provided us with online classes via Zoom. I can't imagine how I would have gotten through that difficult time without their amazing support. Now we have many practitioners all over the states and others countries. In Boulder, We can either take classes online or in studio (the studio has most beautiful views in Boulder!). Yoga Shala has helped me live my life more peacefully in the present moment! I thank you all my Shala teachers!
