At first I was very nervous with using Skype instead of in person tutoring. But Carmen is a person that makes you feel very comfortable and soon you'll be great friends along with speaking Spanish. I started with wanting to learn to speak Spanish for medical mission trips. We talk about various topics and our homework has progressed in many directions from using audio - music, movies, dramas and news feeds for learning. as well as modern contemporary magazine translations such as people magazine in Spanish. I went on a mission four months after starting with Carmen and was able to begin speaking some Spanish. Now a year and a half later I'm understanding and speaking even more. I always recommend Carmen for anybody who needs to learn how to speak Spanish or is having trouble in school. Highly recommend!!!!!

She said on numerous accounts that sometimes the teachers didn't know what her math homework was about! So, we tried to cancel, but somehow the owner is never there and never reachable. My family has tried at various times of the day and through different methods of contact to discuss about cancelling our membership for about a month now.. and nothing! We even at some point tried to decrease the 90 minute session to 60 minute session, and surprise, surprise.. it didn't work. None of the teachers there can help either. Would not recommend unless you want this to be your life plan.

I am writing this review from the perspective of a tutor who worked at Mathnasium, but also the older sister of someone who would not have passed high school math without this institution. First of all, Mathnasium pays its tutors far better than any of the other tutoring institutions around. Ultimately, you get better quality tutors because of this pay differential (ie: often college grads) and due to the center's director. Kevin Thoman maintains a great rapport with his employees and his students. He is affable and understanding, but he maintains a good balance of discipline. Furthermore, the tutoring system they have developed is great for hammering in math principles and tools that will help your child throughout their math-related life. It has a great learning atmosphere, and I can't speak for every employee, but I truly enjoyed being at work. As for my younger sister's experience: She is very intelligent, but she had had very negative experiences with math teachers in her past. She has ADD, and some past instructors made her feel as if she just wasn't "good" at math. Kevin managed to provide a very different and positive experience for her, and she was able to graduate high school with a high B in Pre-Calc where she was previously failing. I obviously wouldn't guarantee that everyone will have such an amazing turn around- every student has different learning weaknesses, but I think that for many students the positive atmosphere paired with the disciplined learning schedule can have positive results.
