For a mexican restaurant about as far away as you can get from Mexico without speaking canadien, the food was not awful - it wasn't the best or anything to write home about, but it was edible. we would come here once or twice a month when nobody felt like cooking. That was until the last time we came and saw the (attached) sign on the door. wow. so "government handouts" are the reason your hours are reduced? Look, I don't want to be slapped in the face with your trumpian politics when all I want is a mediocre burrito. I wondered why everytime we went, there was always a different server . . . seems to me the issue madre loca is having is not GETTING help - but KEEPING help. for the prices charged - which are not cheap - you would think maybe paying your employees decently or maybe even treating them like one SHOULD treat those making them money would be the best business practice. I read everyday about restaurants and other businesses doing just fine when they treat their employees well, (and as a business owner myself I have no trouble getting and keeping *my* employees ) so if you're going to blame "government handouts" as the reason you have to reduce hours, well, then excuse us for not contributing to said "handouts" and we'll just go on down to Elk River where the REAL Mexican restaurant is. The only reason you get more than one star is the surfer dude server was really good the time we had him. ps. trump lost. get over it snowflake. read more

Bourbon Bacon Blue Burger was very good. Service today at 6 in the afternoon was excellent.

I died and went to heaven. in heaven I found Clyde's but on bacon blue burger. I wish I lived closer because now I have to drive an hour to come back. Lives up to its name but a good, friendly restaurant. The carne asada and pork verde tacos are particularly good.

Tastes like they use basic taco seasoning packet on everything! -the shrimp, the rice, the ground beef. Margaritas are THE WORST! I do not write that lightly. Pure syrup & sugar, nearly no actual alcohol. We tried two flavors (on the rocks) hoping it was just the basic lime that was terrible- nope- wild berry too. The shredded chicken had no flavor. We waited over 15min before a server acknowledged we were there (after honestly waiting 10minutes at the door for a host to even notice we needed to be seated). 50% of the tables were dirty and unoccupied. Waitress was rude while taking order. I Asked to have cheese sauce added to my enchilada - she refused, said I could only do that with the enchiladas platter. I offered to pay extra for it, still refused. We had planned to get dessert, but after how terrible everything else was, it wasn't worth paying more to only be further disappointed. The only good things I can say are that the tortillas & salsa were good, and veggies on the tacos were fresh. I get that staffing is hard and likely contributed, but then start a wait list, or limit tables being sat, etc. read more

Couldn't have been happier with our first experience. My wife got chicken chimichangas, I had a massive burrito with chipotle chicken. The food was great, and the service was better. I wish I could remember our servers name because he was phenomenal, very knowledgeable and likeable. Been there a few times and generally great food, service, and clean. Last time we went they where short handed so we expected a delay. Unfortunately it was a disaster. We where seated outside next to garbage pile which owner said was because of remodeling even though 2 other sides of the building where empty? Secondly no one cleared tables at all. We watched cook, owner, and waitress move about and returned with empty hands so we got the pleasure to smell old food and attacked by flies. When our nachos where brought out, she dropped off dirty dishes, with food stuck on them. Our dinner was uneditable. Owner was more concerned about the waitress rolling her eyes at us rather then probably shutting down because they couldn't keep up. Tool over 45 minutes from time we ordered and got our food, for a total of over an hour waiting. Personally we will never go back. read more

Food is a hit or miss flavor quality and temp of order. I've personally had more generic experiences than great at this place. Tonight thought they offer all you can eat tacos for 9.99. Nope. It's 4 tacos for 9.99. couldn't even offer a discount for failure to falsely advertise. I took a pic but can't upload it to show their sign false advertising. Servers are always nice tho. read more

We came here last night on the second day after they opened. You could tell the service needs some kinks to be worked out, but that's to be expected. The food on the other hand was quite good. Of course you get the free chips and salsa, both are homemade and the salsa is excellent! For dinner I ordered the Carne Asada tacos and they came just how they should be, with carne asada, cilantro and onions. My wife ordered the chicken chimi and it was huge! had excellent flavor and the cheese sauce was great! My only complaint so far is that they really skimped on the rice and beans. Either way we will be back to try more of the menu. This town needed a place like this. read more

Feels like you're going back to the 90's when entering this joint. Bar is upstairs but always closed for some reason. I had the Nachos, they were microwaved and not enough cheese. The beans tasted funny and the rice was dry. I had a Chimichanga, chicken I think. Every time I drive by this place it's empty,maybe it's a sign. Lady was nice but not very professional and looked like she just crawled out of bed. I don't think I'll be going back. Update: someone running this account emailed me, I'm assuming it's the owner and I was told her name was Heidi but it came up as a "Lezlie S.". If you read the other comments on here "Lezlie S." gives the place 5 Stars and bashes another Mexican joint name "Chicos" shows how much class this owner has and maybe instead of making fake accounts to make her crappy restaurant look better she should be working on her staff and overall appearance! I was a bit skeptical with the poor reviews Madre Loca has, but I was pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere is typical of a Mexican cuisine establishment,l. It was clean and we were permitted to choose our seat rather than being forced to sit next to every other family in a "section." They have a big menu, and the prices are very affordable. Both my husband and I ordered burritos and fountain drinks and a side of guac and only paid $25. The portions are big also! The food came out SO quickly. I was stunned! At first I thought maybe they have packaged premade items that they microwave, but everything tasted fresh and was neither soggy or burnt. Just a fast and efficient chef apparently. The staff was friendly as well. We left a good tip. They have volleyball leagues in the summer if that's something you like also. My only complaint is they charge extra for a side of guac and they serve it in a shot glass sized cup enough for 1 chip. read more

Our family was pleasantly surprised with how great the food was when we stopped here on our way back from northern MN. Food, chips, and salsa were great. My child loved his quesadilla and I think it was one of the best chicken fajita burritos I've had. Definitely upgrade and get the cheese sauce on top. Truly shocked by the earlier good reviews! Went within a few weeks of them opening, unorganized, food seemed out of a can, didn't seem fresh! Figured we would give it another try since it was new. Went months later to be greeted by whom we were told was the owner. She was wearing an old dirty sweatshirt and jeans, looked like she just came in from working in the yard. Unfriendly and truly just from looking at her didn't want to eat the food. Ordered just chips and salsa and drinks. Margaritas were HORRIBLE and were billed $18 for the large margarita..... this is NOT some fancy restaurant in the cities, nor was it top shelf tequila.. CRAZY. The place was dead in there but it still took 40 minutes to get our food because she forgot to place our order, she never checked in at our table and after almost 20 minutes of waiting for a refill we just tracked down the waitress to get our check. It's Mexican in the middle of Minnesota so it is what it is! The space is for sure too large and the decor is very outdated and corny. The service was good and they were very nice but the food is very basic Mexican food...very Americanized. It wasn't horrible (I got the chipotle chicken burrito which was a cheap Chipotle knock off) but the salsa needs to be improved (tasted like tomato juice) and the margaritas in the pitcher....avoid. Electric green sugar water with a drop of tequila per pitcher. Yucky. So yeah...I say just go to Taco Bell which is probably more authentic then this place. read more

Decent Mexican for Princeton. Certainly not of the same quality authentic Mexican you can find in the cities, but ok. The spice is held back for the gringos I suppose. Had a beef chimi. Bodes well that they use shredded beef and not hamburger. If you want authentic, keep driving, decent meal, this works. read more

We were in Princeton for the day and needed some lunch. As a gluten free vegan my expectations are low for the food that I can get at restaurant. Madre Loca was amazing! They are very diligent with keeping the gluten free options from getting contaminated. As a vegan the veggie burrito was amazing and beans have no lard. No social distancing being practiced here. The board of health would have given multiple violations at this location. We seated ourselves in the middle of 3 empty booths and an empty room full of tables. The staff were not wearing masks. After seating ourselves the staff allowed others to take the booths on either side of us rather than seat them in the, at least 10, empty tables in the middle area of the room. We waited a very long time to receive our food and were not impressed by what we got. The beans are canned, the rice is very dry, my vegetarian fajitas were just green bell peppers, onions and diced tomatoes. We asked for a refill of the chips and they charge $3.99 for that. Service was terrible but more because they were understaffed than because the waitresses were bad. Our booth back was wiggly and moved everytime I sat back. Not a great experience. We waited a week after Madre Loca opened to dine there. We were very pleased with the service, food and atmosphere! Our server was attentive and greeted our table, got our drinks, and took our order in a manner that did not feel rushed nor was there any lapse in service. Our margaritas were excellent as were the FREE chips and salsa. I had the taco salad which was very fresh and tasted wonderful. My husband had the steak fajitas which came out on a very hot and sizzling skillet (just as the menu stated) and the vegetables were sauteed just right and the steak was cooked to perfection. Both my husband and I are very happy there is such an amazing restaurant in our home town. We cant wait to dine there again. Absolutely horrible service. They dont even deserve one star. I could see a lag if they were busy, but this was ridiculous! The only food that came to our table hot was the appetizer straight out of the fryer, the rest was ice cold. You didn't dare ask for ketchup or a fork either, because the only waitress would disappear for 20 minutes or more. I went to the kitchen and got it myself. The owner should be ashamed of their employees. If your business is struggling this bad, you would think the owner would be there around the clock to see why no one is raving about their establishment. read more

Two adults and two kiddos on this adventure. The chips and salsa they provide are delicious, and the meals were just ok. As mentioned in other reviews, it's good for for this area of the state. We all found it strange that there was no music being played - and we were one of two tables with customers... The oldest child mentioned how it made her feel uncomfortable to talk because we heard the entire conversation of the table across the room clearly.
