I have black girlfriend in the schuyler st. hood in utica who always starts fights with hospital nurses---she just doesn't get that these people are under a lot of stress and can save your life so if you are wise you should do everything in your power to cultivate their goodwill. she also never bothers to do any research--to read [god help her if she had to read a book for once in her life] to try to understand her condition and treatment recommendations. Do you want to be right or do you want to be smart? I was a little put off by Dr. Gaffney's very young, very sexy and elegant female assistant's luxe designer stethoscope with sparkling rhinestones [or were they real diamonds?]--yes rhinestones--bling bling--and she was dressed like a fifth ave fashion plate--plus elegant pricey retro designer interior office architecture--which looks to me like this crew LOVES MONEY & LUXURY...so what is their motivation---my heath or their big $$ profits? By the way--good luck finding parking anywhere near CNY Cardio. This Dr ended up recommending a $50K procedure while my other cardiologist did no such thing. needless to say I am very active--i run and bike routinely so i find it very hard to believe this Dr. essentially hinting that I'm on my "last legs". I think it's about $. Do some online research and you will see that many cardiologists have been sued for profiting millions of $ from recommending unnecessary procedures. ALWAYS GET A 2nd OPINION from a different clinic when it comes to something as important as your heart health! read more

Do not recommend this place to anyone. They do not believe women when they talk about the symptoms they are having. I have been having issues that I have noticed for at least a year. Feeling dizzy, sitting up getting dizzy, standing getting really dizzy, and almost passing out or passing out. I am on heart medication that my primary doctor prescribed me because my heart rate was over 100 beats a min. She told me we have to slow your heart down. It's a sign of pots. Well, Dr. Berg flat-out told me during my table tilt test that if I don't pass out, it's not pots. When I pointed out that not all people pass out from POTS, he told me he was the doctor, and he would decide if I have POTS or not. I was not going to go back to them, but everything has been getting worse. I saw Erin Smith, who was just as dismissive as Dr. Berg. She said that all my labs and stuff came back normal, and my heart EKG looks good, so it sounds neurological. Have I seen a neurologist? And when I pointed out that all my symptoms point to POTS, she just said she would stick a heart monitor on me for a couple of days. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. If you want to waste your money, go there, but I would get a referral to a different office out of the area. read more

This guy, Fairin, is extremely rude. I was 11 minutes late for my appointment, which is no excuse. I was trying to speak to the rep that checked me in. Fairin insisted that he could help, but I really didn't want him to because from the beginning he insisted his services it seemed like he was having a bad day. Plus, logically it would make more sense for the original rep to help because it will decrease the wait time and increase patient satisfaction. I asked the specific question "Can you give me a rough estimate on how long it's going to take me to me be called?" He replied, "You have a track record of being like late. You rescheduled three times. So you are unfit of keeping up with your appointments." My first appointment was on the third floor, I was 25 minutes early. This is my second appointment and I have never reschedule. So for him to talk to me the way he did was totally uncalled for and attacked me with information that was false! I even asked to speak with his manager and he walked away calling me an "ignorant black bitch" under his breathe. A doctor came out to tell me that I would be called in a few minutes. Fairin did not return to his chair until I was officially called in by the doctor that I was here to see. When he did return I asked him his name because I plans on taking this to his manager and who ever I need to, so that he doesn't repeat the same thing he did to me to anyone else. Be on your game and get here EARLY. I arrived 7 minutes late (my fault) and when I checked in at the lower level, they were already discussing my name OUT LOUD as a "no show"! Geeze! Thankfully, they still allowed me to keep my appointment. The medical assistant who took my vitals was very pleasant (Rhonda) and my cardiologist, Dr. Gaffney, whom I met for the first time today was very thorough. read more

Went in with my father to see Sassower in June for procedure approval. Commented that my dad was underweight and had low iron. Without telling us he had written "bowel cancer?" In his file. I guess he had no intention of helping my dad but didn't want to accept the responsibility of telling us bad news. Gaffney was surprised Sassower hadn't said anything to us about his concerns. What ultimately upset us was the lack of transparency. If he had concerns that my dad wasn't a good candidate he could have told us and we would've spent his final weeks making him comfortable instead of stuffing him with protein shakes thinking he'd then get surgery. So instead my dad got to die from congestive heart failure because he felt no one wanted to help him. Sassower said he had children later in life like my dad and I sincerely hope no doctor ever makes him and his children feel the way he made my family feel. read more
