Hate giving a low rating as there were some great people but over the last month both myself and a family member had the unfortunate experience of being patients in the ER. ER felt like a walmart self check out where treatment is occurring in an uncomfortable (chairs are uncomfortable) and not private waiting room. It should not take hours to get a gurney in the ER. Was in waiting room for five and a half hours. Was told I would be admitted and that a bed was available to finally get that bed 10 hours later. ER Doc Dr Din was great. Wish I could say nursing staff was great. Was never given a call button and had to climb out of gurney with raised rails to reach call button to then wait 50 minutes for someone to come. Not good when you need to use restroom and you are connected to monitors and IV. This was common as man next to me had no call button and was screaming and cursing as he wet himself. Once, on floor rooms were spacious and beautiful nursing staff were great. Food Service not great and realize hospital food is not good but spent most meals trying to address incorrect food allergy that I did not have. Hospital Docs are a mixed bag...some are good while others should be looking for another job. Cannot recommend this hospital as when it comes to your health it is not about the beautiful room or new facility but the care and expertise of the staff that are treating you. I sure do miss St E's For handicapped visitor's it is challenging .... Not sure why they have EV spots upfront that should be for handicapped. Yes they have valet parking but no bench to sit and wait as it can take 20 to 30 minutes to get your car. Metal Detectors are difficult to navigate when your mobility is challenged and to exit having to take additional steps to exit is difficult as well. read more

Never Again at Wynn Hospital Public Warning About Wynn Hospital My family member was admitted to Wynn Hospital twice in the past month, and the experience was devastating. First Admission (12/13/2025 - 12/19/2025) - Taken by ambulance with excruciating abdominal pain. - Went 11 days without a single bowel movement, unable to eat or drink. - Fluid built up in her abdomen, with dark blood discharge. - Severe swelling from hips to toes was ignored. - Despite the Health Care Proxy's objections, she was discharged with nothing resolved. Second Admission (12/22/2025 - still there with no answers! - Returned by ambulance. - On 12/24/2025, an excellent surgeon finally performed surgery to remove the bowel blockage. - Post-surgery complications: severe excoriation from buttocks to thighs, constant diarrhea, fluid outside her lungs. - No wound care nurse ever assessed her obvious skin breakdown. - Hospital attempted discharge again without notifying the Health Care Proxy. - She is now in constant pain, unable to move, and losing hope. This neglect has crushed her spirit. We fear she will never recover because the blockage was ignored during her first admission. My mother was inpatient for a week with all the classic symptoms of kidney failure. They diagnosed mild anemia and discharged her in a worse state than when she was admitted. Took her to Oneida ER and they diagnosed her correctly right away. read more

There are grave concerns about this hospital; my experience on August 25th was horrific. A trip to the ER for an EKG-to rule out cardiac problems beyond tachycardia became a nightmare. My goal was a quick reassuring EKG before going to a local table tennis club to play. Despite absence of any behavioral or verbal indices (no depression, suicide ideation or attempts, threats to self or other, no dysphoria, no cognitive distortions, no psychotic features, no substance abuse, etc) that might provoke a psych evaluation & potential retention against my will, they placed me in a PsychER room, refused to let me leave for 7 hours-releasing me after midnight. Besides mounting anxiety due to their bizarre conduct, there were no indications of immediate distress that could justify retention--no crying, or other signs of distress. They took my iphone and Apple watch; something that prevented me from accessing help. The civil rights violations were egregious. I am an educated professional woman with no history of psychiatric issues-who was seeking an EKG before going to play ping pong at a local table tennis club. My experience should scare the h-ll out of anyone contemplating seeking medical care at this facility. I was subjected to tests against my will (although I complied fearing what would have happened had I not). If you need medical care, go to a competent hospital. Living in Utica should not condemn you to horrendous medical care. I am not simply writing poor reviews on Yelp. My plan is to file grievances with appropriate agencies with the goal of encouraging a full investigation that would fuel change. Nobody should ever experience what I did Monday night. I'm writing this on Friday-4 days after the incident and the hospital has yet to contact me after I requested an explanation on Tuesday morning. You'd think they would contact me if only to prevent escalation of a former patient's request for accountabiility. The ICU team is amazing as well as trauma team and neurology medical but the regular inpatient team is a hard NO! The nurses have the worse attitude, lack attentiveness and basically sit around talking to each other instead of doing their freaking jobs. I'm extremely irritated as I flew here from Texas as my son had a severe accident and he is active duty military. This place is a joke, my mother went to the ER with some bleeding issues. She was stuck in the ER for 18 hours before she could get a room then 12 hours after she gets a room at 3:30 in the morning they make her switch rooms so now in her second room and still hasn't seen a doctor It took 18 hours for her to see a doctor after she was in the room so 36 hours before she saw a doctor then they give her a pill to coagulate the blood and sent her home As soon as she gets home. She starts bleeding again. We literally leave there five minutes from the hospital so I had to go back to the emergency room literally 30 minutes after they released her. read more

I drove to Wynn Hospital. I arrived at the emergency prior to 4:30 a.m. I was admitted to the hospital, OR was I? I was told to wait for the doctor. There are four others waiting. The staff is sitting, standing, talking, laughing, eating,drinking, walking around. I waited almost three hours. Blood glucose is now approaching 250. I left. There is no doctor in the emergency. Shift change at 7:00, staff not knowing what's going on. [[HIGHLIGHT]]PLUS this hospital, through telephone solicitations, had the nerve to call me, days later, to see how I was doing. I Do Not recommend bringing your dying loved ones to Wynn Hospital as long as they have the lowlife clown Musa Jawneh employed in Security. My family and I were there for hours at a time, in and out several times per day/night making sure she was not alone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] On Tuesday evening my daughter and I went downstairs to use the vending machines on the 1st floor. We got off the elevators, walked past the Security desk where Security Supervisor Musa Jawneh was standing and watching us. Not 5 minutes later we came back past security and entered the elevator. Musa then came rushing after us blocking the elevator door and telling us we need to leave, visiting hours have ended. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I quickly explained to him that I had already been there for hours, my belongings are still upstairs, and my grandma is on comfort care/hospice, I am allowed to stay. He refused to accept what I was saying. He smirked and said that I am making his job easy for him.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He said we need to come with him, he needs to call upstairs to confirm this. I told him to go ahead, call, its room # 7015 and if there is a problem he can find me there. He then blocked the elevator again and demanded that I come back to the desk with him while he called. At this point I followed him and asked for his Manager. He laughed and told me he Is The Supervisor. He then picked up and hung up the phone 3 or 4 times stalling and bullshitting to antagonize me and smirk because he was so proud to be asserting his authority over someone and thought he was going to kick me out of the hospital. I then lost my patience and began screaming at him to call whoever he has to call and that my grandma is on hospice and is taking her last breathes while you have me waiting here for no reason. He still would not call upstairs to verify, stood there staring at me, I turned and asked the other security guard nearby to call, he shrugged his shoulders as if to say he can't, and Musa quickly reminded me for the 3rd time that He is The Supervisor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was not until other people in the viciniry were watching and my 16 year old daughter started yelling at him to do his job and call, he is wasting our time, that he finally did call. He then followed us to the elevator to smile and make condescending remarks as the doors closed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I told him he is a petty witch and I will be reporting him. He laughed and offered to give me the phone #. Musa Jawneh is obviously lacking in intelligence, is on a power trip to be treating the loved ones of patients this way. This was an absolutely unaccpetable experience. I had to warn my loved ones to watch out for him. Wynn hospital do better. I was admitted to the ER on my drs recommendation because of shoulder pain and high WBC count. I was examined and tested quite promptly and then admitted to the hospital. The staff had to arrange consultations with specialists, which they did very effectively. The nursing and medical staff were excellent and caring. The food is good as well. read more

If you're considering Wynn Hospital for anything more serious than a splinter, read this first. My partner was admitted here after a motorcycle accident with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and broken bones. I'm going to focus on the TBI, because it was the most serious--and the way Wynn handled it is a warning. The Good: -The ICU looked impressive. -[[HIGHLIGHT]]Most nurses and doctors were kind, but (spoiler) it's hit or miss.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Reality: -[[HIGHLIGHT]]Communication was minimal at best, non-existent at worst. No one bothered to contact family after admission, not even his mother, despite obvious head trauma and confusion.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He was in the hospital for a day and a half before I was able to locate him by calling around. (Apparently HIPAA laws, but he was in no state to give contacts. They had his wallet and phone.) -[[HIGHLIGHT]]We were told only that "the bleed was stable" based on CT scans, with zero explanation of what that meant or how serious the injury actually was.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] -He was discharged for "improvement" with a broken collarbone, fractured ribs, and, as it turns out, a significant, pressure-causing blood clot in his brain that they missed or minimized. After doing my own research and talking to doctors in Rochester, it was clear that the symptoms he was showing (both while at Wynn and after discharge) were warning signs that something more was going on. -Four days after being sent home, he rapidly declined and required emergency brain surgery at Rochester to save his life. Thank the universe for hospitals that know a real emergency when they see one. The Worst: -The discharge was reckless. No offer for transfer to a true neuro center, no thorough explanation of his actual condition. Just "here's a prescription, set up appointments with neuro and ortho, and good luck." (We only managed to do one neuro appointment before he declined again.) [[HIGHLIGHT]]Staff seemed burned out, disengaged, and sometimes just plain rude or dismissive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] -Except for a few techs shoutout to them for being nice and helpful even though I know you couldn't do much but make sure he wasn't a fall risk, -AND SPECIAL shout-out to the lady who sighed and appeared agitated because of his impulse control from the TBI. -[[HIGHLIGHT]]If you want answers, be prepared to ask more than once--and don't expect clarity.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Takeaway: Shiny hospital, but the heart and knowledge walked out with the nurses who retired or left from the former hospitals. If you or someone you love has a real emergency, do NOT settle for Wynn if you can get to Rochester, Syracuse, or anywhere else with a proper trauma team. read more

My father ( 90 years old ) went there last night with severe pain in his lower back on one side. My sister was a patient here recently when she had colon cancer and needed surgery. Let's just say that I was NOT impressed at all with the so - called service she, her daughter and I received here. We called numerous times to get info about her and her care and it was like pulling teeth to drag any info out of ANY of the staff. Communication was horrible -- it seemed like one hand did NOT know what the other was doing. Clean rooms. Complete lack of concern for patient welfare. They ignored my symptoms and my (correct) self diagnosis. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had to go to the front desk to request that a doctor actually talk to me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When he came into the room, he asked non-pertinent questions that had no bearing on my illness. When I said that I believed that I was dying, which would have happened had I not finally received medication for my illness, he asked me if I "had died from this illness before." In a state of disbelief, I asked him to repeat the question, which he did at least twice. I finally understood that the doctor was just there to play games of belittling me while I was helpless, seemingly for his own entertainment, and had no interest in providing the medical care that I desperately needed. I was just a dollar sign to them. They finally tested a sample I gave them, confirming that the infection that I knew that I had (c. diff.) was the illness that I actually had. At that point, they gave me one capsule of Dificid and said that they would call in a prescription to my pharmacy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The rest of the staff were visibly angry and hostile to me as I tried to gather my things to leave.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I left the hospital wrapped in hospital pants and a gown to have an Uber drive me to my car at the doctor's office, who had transferred me to this hospital by ambulance, and drive home. The next day, I discovered that my prescription had been written, but not "ordered" by the doctor, so the cost for this medicine (not the hospital visit, just the antibiotic) would have been around $5,000. I believe this was done with my prescription intentionally. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called the hospital back and spoke with someone else, who changed the medication to Vancomycin and ran it through my insurance which took the full cost of the antibiotic.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I wanted to end this review with something positive to say, but I just can't think of even one thing to write. 13 yr old grandson went by ambulance to Wynn, and for some unknown reason, was placed in PSYCH er. Nurses were WONDERFUL, but attending female doctor was curt and rude, with truly having no business attending to a youth. We now have a bill for "psych eval", which there absolutely WAS NO EVAL, and I aim to dispute this!! No one answers the call bell, no matter what; people die this way. I had to ask them to empty a garbage can and sweep the floor, the garbage can that was so overflowing that garbage was all over the floor. The rooms are not even swept daily. I went in for surgery while the drs and surgical staff was amazing and the hospital is beautiful. The care is extremely lacking. Now dont get me wrong the nurses where nice and all. But the actual care was awful. After surgery the iv I had in was extremely painful and I knew something was wrong. The Dr came in to check on me and i let him know and he said that it needs to be taken out and replaced. This happened at 230 3pm. So the 1st nurse tried to get a new one in and she couldn't get it then she had another nurse come in and she couldn't get it. So the decided they would call whatever department that specializes in this. They never showed up i later found out they never tried to get a hold of them until 6pm and they leave at 5. Why this wasn't done at 330 when 2 RNS couldn't get a vein beats me. The new rn comes in for night and has to give me pain med thru the bad iv and when she does holy hell the pain it cause i was in tears begging her to stop. Thankfully she called a nurse from another floor who also was a paramedic and he was able to get a new iv in thank god! Then when it came to discharge the drs who i love came in and let me know I could go home at 1130. The nurse stopped in for a sec we let her know I was good to discharge she said ok she was running to another room quick. I know they are busy but 1pm came and she wasn't there. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I hit the call bell and it took some one 35mins to come to my room. Thank god it wasn't a serious issue I was having.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I asked for my nurse and he goes ill find her he came back 15mins later said she was in a room and would be with us. 2pm rolls around she finally shows up and we again told her im discharged and ready to go we have been waiting she said she'd get the paperwork and find someone to take me down. When she gave me my last shot I swear she was pissed cuz this time she hurt me and it seemed on purpose. She also ended up taking me down in the wheel chair herself. And she let me know she had been on lunch because she needed to take lunch or else she wouldn't get one. I stated to her for 2 hrs? [[HIGHLIGHT]]And also let her know I hit the call button and the fact no one answered for 35mins isn't a good thing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And left it at that. Ever nurse I had was a traveling RN again they were nice but the care was not there and the fact not one of them could get an iv in scares me. Clearly a lot of people die here. I didn't. I went to the ER because my sugar actually had a measurable amount of blood in it. I know there are big letters that spell EMERGENCY on the front, but I still have my doubts about the sense of urgency of the staff. Also, late at night it seems to be a gathering place for Spanish speaking teenagers with no discernible ailments. . Wynn hospital is the worst hospital I've ever been to and I've been to a lot. I've had at least 13 surgeries. I had a fever since Wednesday. Before I went to the hospital my fever was 103.1 I took a fever reducer before I went in and it's about 40° in there so they brought my body temperature down. They took my blood pressure. My urine did an EKG and a chest x-ray. I had no congested issues at all. I got there at 2 o'clock. I left after 5:30. The woman I was sitting next to was there for two hours before me. She was six weeks postop and still had a drainage tube in her. She left after 6 1/2 hours. I begged them for some type of a bed to lay on as I paid for back surgeries and cannot hours. They refused. I also begged for Excedrin because my head felt like it was about to explode again refused. They wouldn't prescribe anything until they saw me. I did not see one patient walk in and then walk out. I think all the patients there just walked out it took had to take my vitals twice. I'm gonna report this to the state personally I don't believe there were any doctors there. I think the only doctors they were in the hospital were trauma that they would call down to the ER. For trauma. I called Slocum Dixon urgent care and made an appointment for 1010 this morning. They got me in at 10:20. They took yet another urine test and they ran it stat because of my fever. As it turns out I had an extreme UTI that went into my kidneys. They said I was in great danger of getting sepsis. They gave me a shot of antibiotics and wrote me a prescription for Cipro and told me that if a fever comes get to a hospital immediately. go down in history is the worst hospital ever and I'm taking this to the state. Labor and Delivery/OBGYN: My WONDERFUL OB-GYN: Dr. Roxane Handal-Orefice I truly have nothing but wonderful things to say about Dr. Handal - mind you, this review is coming from a registered nurse who is not very easy to please as a patient! To see that anybody could even give this incredible woman a poor review is not only mind-blowing, but completely disheartening and enraging. This is my second pregnancy with Dr. Handal. Both pregnancies have been complicated - the first with fetal anomalies and preterm labor, and this one with continuous preterm contractions. This woman goes ABOVE and beyond for me (and ALL of her patients) to ensure that my baby and I are both safe and well cared for. She is extremely thorough in her assessments, and insanely intelligent, very knowledgable in her area of expertise (she is a maternal fetal medicine specialist as well as general OB-GYN). Aside from her array of knowledge, what sets her apart from other providers is her personality, her compassion, and her truly caring approach. She is so approachable with any questions, concerns, or comments, and very very receptive to what her patients have to say! She makes me feel comfortable, heard, and respected. I'm a pretty tough patient, and though I personally know I'm annoying... she makes me feel like the exact opposite. I trust this woman with everything in me. Having worked with many providers - take it from me, you won't find one better than Dr. Handal. I don't say this lightly, I'm a tough crowd with high standards - she exceeds them all. If you want exceptional OB-GYN care, Dr. Handal is your girl. As far as the Wynn Labor and Delivery unit (some of my old coworkers) - I have NOTHING but great things to say! I have already visited them many times this pregnancy for preterm contractions. The nurses, residents, and aids are always so kind and welcoming. They listen to my concerns and make me feel at ease, even when things are super stressful. If you are injured and want to wait for hours in the ER waiting room before you are attended to, go to Wynn. If you want to be leased from the hospital after you had X-rays of your injury but before a doctor reviewed them, Wynn is the hospital for you. If you, don't mind getting a call 4 hrs after being released asking you come back in, and wait another few hours, to have an additional test because a doctor did finally read the X-ray from the night before and saw a fracture and a torn muscle, Wynn is the place for you. read more
