I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience with this hotel before I even became a guest was so disappointing that I felt compelled to share it. I called to make a reservation approximately two weeks in advance and had a specific request regarding my room. Instead of receiving assistance, I was repeatedly interrupted and talked over by the front desk representative. She never took the time to actually listen to what I was asking and seemed more interested in ending the conversation than helping a prospective guest. The tone throughout the call was dismissive, impatient, and unprofessional. I even requested to speak with a manager and was not given the opportunity to do so. Whether or not my request could have been accommodated is not the issue. Great hospitality begins with listening, communicating respectfully, and making guests feel valued. Unfortunately, I experienced the exact opposite. If this is how prospective guests are treated before they even arrive, it raises serious concerns about the property's customer service culture. I sincerely hope management reviews its staff training and addresses the importance of respectful communication, active listening, and professionalism. Nicely kept retro motel, spotlessly clean rooms with old fashioned charm. No A/C, but ceiling fans and windows that open. Stairs no elevator (two stories). The entrance is a little intimidating (steep hill) but yes, that's the way in, just climb the hill and find the friendly check-in office. Nice clean little pool for the kids. Unfortunately no stars isn't an option. Do not waste your time booking here. Had to cancel the day before and when I phoned to cancel I was told "no problem". Was never informed they were still going to charge me. When I called back to speak with John the manager on duty I was basically shut down from the beginning. Never have I encountered such poor customer service and felt not heard. I was interrupted and when he began to raise his voice I called him out and he laughed. Not worth supporting a business that treats customers in this manner. You're better off staying somewhere where you're treated like a human. read more

Some notes: -$3 parking fee per night -Complimentary coffee in the lobby -$5 off per person at Jeannine's Restaurant/Bakery (couple blocks; within walking distance) -There are no stairs to get to the 2nd floor -There is additional parking located behind the hotel -Staff is friendly and accommodating -Walls are somewhat thin. We were able to hear conversations outside and downstairs. -Rooms were modern, updated and comfortable -They still use actual keys vs. key cards Overall, we had a nice stay at this inn, and we would come back (if the price was right!). I am glad that I did not go off of the 3.5 stars. I'm extremely picky when it comes to overnight lodging and dining. This place is quite charming. It's a boutique he type hotel, office staff is very professional and helpful. The facilities, and grounds are very clean and decorated cute. The rooms are spacious, clean and bedding is nice. So maybe the bathroom is small, but this is an older complex. But it has been maintained extremely well and actually I find it in better condition than some of the higher end hotels. I've stayed at some Ritz Carlton's that wasn't even worthy of a review. Plus we are not paying $300 a night here in one of the most beautiful cities. So if you're in the area, don't be scared off by 3.5 stars this place is really adorable. I would stay here again. And you don't have to go far to have an amazing meal, Oliver's is in the same parking lot...amazing food extensive wine list. read more

This is probably the best value on the Montecito strip! Pros: the location is great! The pool is wonderful and the rooms are decent for the price. The house keeping staff is also very friendly. I'll start off with the positives: 1. The desk staff, maids, and various employees were consistently friendly, professional, and helpful. 2. The pool was clean and very warm. I booked through TravelZoo for $69/night, but if I'd paid a dollar more I would not be writing this review, because I would not have stayed. My wife and I were dismayed at the size of the standard queen room - she's under 5 feet, and was still getting attacks of claustrophobia. Nowhere to put a suitcase, or to set down toiletries. Because of the TravelZoo reservation, we were upgraded to a "studio" room for free (thanks to the lovely desk clerk who noticed!). It was on the quiet side in the back, and we parked directly outside the door. Convenient. What was not so convenient was the non-curtained window in the top of our door that looked straight into an ultra-bright security light. These lights are all over the place back there. Forget sleeping. There was a dampness in the room and a dank smell that was quite unpleasant, partially covered up by heavily scented cleaning products. The bed was lumpy and creaky, quite uncomfortable. The TV was small and placed so far from the bed that it was difficult to see. One nice feature: DVD player in the room. The bath products were substandard, made-in-China type deals. (one ingredient listed: Bird Oil Feathers. I am not kidding.) No separate bar of soap for the shower. The included breakfast at the restaurant next door includes only: -CHOICE of EITHER coffee or juice. Not both. -ONE muffin OR bagel OR toast. -Fresh fruit consisting of mainly cantaloupe. Ugh. I cannot fathom paying anywhere near the prices quoted on their website. Motel 6 in Carpinteria would be a better choice if you're on a tight budget...at least they recently modernized and refurbished. read more

I had a great time here last summer. The rooms are very private and the view from the windows is gorgeous. It has a kind of country-cottage feel and the pool is open very late for memorable summer night swims! The attached restaurant is fabulous and we got a free breakfast with our stay, the food was awesome as was the service. Also a big plus for me was that everyone that worked here was really nice and helpful. They all gave us great suggestions of where to go for dinner and wine-tasting- anything you want, they can give you a solid suggestion. My husband and I had a bad experience here. Checked in for the weekend to discover the bathroom was so tiny you could not even sit straight on the toilet without knees rammed into the wall (we are tall but not that tall). The next morning we asked kindly if we could be moved to a different room. Despite the fact that half the rooms were empty, we were told no. The shower was also terribly small. I'm not sure which was worse - the tiny bathroom or the rudeness of the staff. I would never stay here again. Avoid, avoid. read more

Stayed here for a quick getaway from Los Angeles. Wasn't sure what to expect but the online photos are very accurate. It's a quaint and charming cottage-like place to relax. California Style building architecture. Decent rooms and accommodations. Clean and quiet. The staff at the front desk were very nice and professional. It's close to small boutique shops and cafes. There was parking lot construction going on from another business nearby and the front office gave us complimentary discounts at a local breakfast cafe in lieu of any inconvenience. The weather is nice in Montecito, warm with lot of breeze, however the room we stayed in didn't have an air conditioner. That would have been an added plus. They did supply us a window fan. If you want luxury accommodations, be prepared to spend quite a bit, and go somewhere else. With that said, here's a quick run-down of our impressions of the place: Room scent: musty Room size: smaller but not a problem Bed: comfy! Better than a bed at a Motel 6, Days Inn, etc. Bathroom: really small, like jam your knees into the wall when you sit on the toilet small. Shower stall is small with hardly any space for your soap and shampoo and a lame shower head Pool: not bad. As far as I am concerned, this place was very charming. Yes, the rooms are teeny tiny (the place has to have been built as a mini villa sometime around 1920), and you can hear everything going on outside the room you're in. But it's clean, the staff is extremely courteous and the on-site restaurant is pretty good and the servers very kind. I found the front desk staff to be very sweet, the rate very reasonable for Montecito (although I stayed mid-week in March), we even got turn-down service each night (no chocolate, sadly) and all our toiletries replenished. I was very pleased with the stay, overall. It has walking proximity to many restaurants and shops, one of which may be some of the best Mexican food I've had in a very, very long time. Boasting 28 rooms ranging from my tiny little queen sized room up to full efficiency apartments, this place will suffice in a pickle. I got my room here on priceline so I think I paid $80 for a Monday night in the middle of summer. I actually thought it was quite nice! My room was not small at all. It looked like the photos on the website (room 25 I think). It was however noisy. I didn't hear people from other rooms, but I could hear a lot of people walking by. This especially felt weird in the bathroom. I didn't realize they had free loaner bikes, but they do have free coffee/tea 24 hours in the lobby. They no longer provide a free breakfast but you can get $5 off at the restaurant (I didn't end up trying it). There is free parking and free wifi and it is right in the middle of the cute coast village area. I guess the bathroom was a little small but it didn't really bother me. I found my big king size bed to be very comfortable and loved that I got like 20 different size and shape pillows (I am pregnant and pillows have become very important to me). I was annoyed that there was no elevator but I guess I could have asked for a 1st floor room if it was really a problem. My biggest gripe was the lack of plugs. I had to charge my phone and computer by basically putting them in the bathroom sink. read more

I stayed here for one night in June 2012 in the "Apartment." It was great! This "apartment" has two bedrooms, a small living room, a kitchen, and bathroom. It is right next to the check-in office... literally the next door! It's about a 10 minute drive to the main Santa Barbara streets... not bad at all. Check-in is at 3pm, check-out is at 12pm. We checked in around 3:30pm and were glad the place was neat, clean, comfy, and ready for us to chill and relax after a busy day in SB. The bedrooms are pretty nicely sized. Each has a king bed, a closet, and a flat-screen tv. The beds are pretty comfy and the pillows are great! Everyone that stayed on the beds had no complains about them. The kids loved the fact that they could watch tv in the bedrooms while the adults could watch in the living room. All tv's have cable. Woohoo! Both rooms do not have A/C, however, the windows open and there is a nice breeze that comes in. The living room has a sofa-bed, two matching comfy seats, a coffee table, a work desk where we easily placed the laptop for everyone's use, and a flat-screen tv. The hotel provides free wifi. My bf and I wound up staying on the sofa-bed which was surprisingly comfy. Thankfully, the mattress was not super thin so I was able to get a good night's rest. There were enough pillows from the other rooms so we didn't have to ask for extras. The kitchen is small, but cute and super useful! Although we were there only one night, the kitchen was really helpful for us since we had kids and had to keep water, juices, and snacks/foods cold. There are glass cups, real utensils, plates, and mugs already in there so we didn't need to buy any plastics. That part was good! The table seats six people comfy. There is also a dishwasher. Having one bathroom for all of us worked out fine. It has a tub with shower (not separately). I didn't like that there is a window right above the toilet that looks into the walkway so people can see you if you don't close those blinds! The window is pretty much at eye level and the people in the other rooms have to go this way to get to the hotel office so as soon as we discovered this, we kept the blinds closed. They really should have thought that out better when they built it there. No one wants to be seen when using the bathroom! The staff was friendly and helpful. I always appreciate that at hotels. The hotel gives you $5 credit per person to the local breakfast place - Jeannine's Bakery - so of course, we took full advantage of that in the morning. We saved $30 and that put a smile on our faces! The breakfast was tasty. I wound up calling the order in because we decided to eat in our kitchen rather than be out. That turned out to be a good call since Jeannine's was pretty full that morning. The bar next door is closed so we had no problems with noise. (There was some health notice on their door.) We didn't have time to go into the pool, but it looked clean and decent. There was a family enjoying it when we went to check it out. No noise from the streets except when we had the living room windows open, but even then, there isn't much going on out there. The only thing that I didn't like was that the place charges $3 per day to park in their lot. Parking should be free! But aside from that, I liked the place and I would definitely stay here again. read more

I found this place on expedia at $109 for a night. It was just a friend and I so we got the 1 queen room. It's right off the 101 freeeway once you exit on Olive Mill. Not too far from downtown SB either. The whole place was really cute and quaint. It was small, yes, but it's not like we were going to stay in the room the whole time. Bath, though, is just a shower. So, if you're only spending a night or two I think it's fine. One great thing that we didn't even know about that they give you complimentary bikes! We went up to the front desk to see if they would print out a coupon for us for a bike rental shop, and the lady at the front desk offered the complimentary bikes.....right after I checked out! They were cruisers and it came with a basket and a lock. Granted, it wasn't anything fancy or posh, but she told us how to get down to the pier and everything. It was a fairly easy ride there. You just need to be back by sunset because they don't have lights on them. read more

With the Coast Village Inn, you have 3 things going for you. 1) Location. Right in the heart of downtown Montecito, you are just minutes from everything. Easy walk to Butterfly Beach, one of the best, least known beaches in the area. 2) Price. Look around...you won't find anything in this area even in the ballpark. 3) Quality people. The staff will really take care of you. We stay with our 2 young kids in the apartment and it's fantastic. Nothing luxurious, and that's not what we're paying for. Positives: Very clean; friendly and helpful staff; nice little touches treating a two-star motel as a five-star wannabe. FANTASTIC, huge, warm pool; great landscaping -- beautiful patio outside our room. Bed was smaller than we're used to but comfortable. Nice bathroom linens and fixtures. Negatives: Very small bedroom [#12] with only a queen-sized bed; noise from street and on site restaurant. TINY bathroom -- half the size of a handicapped stall in most public restrooms. Had to slide onto the toilet sideways since there wasn't room to lower to a sitting position without bumping one's legs on the wall in front of it -- and I'm only 5'1". Cigar smoker on patio near our room; we had serious doubts as to whether California smoke laws were being followed. $3 charge for parking -- which admittedly isn't much, but was totally a shock for a roadside motel. Since the room was so small, it bad weather it would be a bit stifling not to have a lobby to sit in to read, etc. Okay in summer as there were nice outdoor sitting areas. Neutral: Peabody's restaurant next door is the breakfast site, with a $5 discount for being hotel guests. It's not as bad as some people have said here, but you can't get a breakfast other than cereal for $5. Two sausage links to go with an egg cost an extra $4 but it's easy to overlook the additional charge on the menu [my husband did]. Get the complimentary coffee at the motel before heading over there, read the menu very carefully, and you can get out with just a couple of dollars per person over the $5 discount. Flat screen TV had no better picture quality than the average old television. Lack of A/C: it was warm in September; would not survive a heat wave. We didn't find out till the day we left that our door had a large panel which could be opened so that it functioned as a screen door. If I went back, I'd probably take a supplemental table fan to augment the ceiling fan. It's very hard to choose a rating for this place; we got it on Priceline for about $80 including tax and fees for a Monday in September. While you could get a fancier, larger room at the Marriott or Crowne Plaza for the same price just driving the 25 miles to Ventura, for Santa Barbara it was an okay price --but if I hadn't wanted to be precisely in Santa Barbara for a funeral and related activities and not want to trek back and forth, I'd probably just enjoy a day in Santa Barbara but make Ventura or even Camarillo my hotel stop. read more

I would definitely stay here again! The staff was super friendly and the pool was nice! My boyfriend and I were there to tour around so we were barely in our room, which was good because the walls were a little thin and kinda noisy at night with people coming home from the bars and stuff, however all of that was totally worth it when we found out they had complimentary bikes! The hotel is in a perfect location right at the start of the beach bike trail so we took our bikes and rode directly from the hotel right down to the beach and over to state st. and even the mission! This place bills itself as a "bed & breakfast style Inn." It's really cute and pretty but it not a b&b; it's a Motel in a beautiful setting. Oh, and there is no breakfast. There also were no $5.00 off coupons for Jeaninne's (which is the only gig nearby for breakfast). We paid $100.79 plus $3.00 for parking (hint: just put it in the price of the room and no one will notice) in late November . We couldn't use the pool because it was cold outside and that was a shame because it's beautiful, lit very pretty at night and deep. Our bed was hard. This is a MAJOR issue for me and the only reason for the lack of 1 star bringing it to 4/5. An overall plea to all sleeping businesses. Please soften your mattresses. Included wireless internet access that worked well is a major plus. A power/usb charging station on the table is very convenient for wired travelers and should be considered as important or MORE important than a room telephone at this point (we can use our cell phones to call the front desk, really). Overall, the room was tiny but comfy . The room was spotless, freshly painted and the linens were very nice. A bit of work on some mildew stains in the shower tile should be looked into. We were not disturbed by housekeeping at all, however another guest certainly liked to clod down the stairs with their rolly wheel suitcase at 8:00 am. It would be nice if there was some turf or outdoor carpeting to dampen the noise. read more
