A wonderful stay, so peaceful and clean. From the moment I checked in, Rodolfo was a great in assisting me with the local spots to check out. The most comfortable bed I have yet to stay in, and very relaxing. Around the corner from all the action so it's a nice break from the noise. Local coffee and croissants very delicious. Thanks for a great time in Santa Barbara!

This place was nice, it took less than 4 minutes i would say to get to the beach. Our room was quiet and nice size, the front sesk rep Dan was super friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend this place if you want an affordable place, that is close to the beach and clean!

La Playa Inn is such a hidden gem! We found it hotel last minute, but they did the best accomodation for our family. When you first walk-in you would smell a clean and sanitized lobby area. Then, when you check-in the staff was super friendly and welcoming. Shout out to Rodolfo, he was super kind and warm. He made sure he checked on us during the duration of our stay. As you walk in the room, it's renovated, modern and spotless! They also offer light continental breakfast and muffins, pastries were delightful. Also, they have EV chargers in their parking area which is a plus. There is no pool but the cleanliness and the convenience of walking 4 minutes to the beach makes up for it! The price is reasonable compared to other hotels/inn's near by which they will charge more. All in all we had a beatiful and relaxing stay at La Playa Inn. We will definitely back! Thank you to all the staff :)

Absolutely loved my stay at La Playa Inn. From the first moment of meeting the wonderful Rodolfo at the desk, I knew this hotel would be everything I hoped it would be for my birthday trip. After a quick walk to Brophy Bros for lunch overlooking the harbor, Rodolfo called and said we could check in early. Yay! The room was clean, modern, had a safe, and even had a thoughtful birthday card - so sweet. Close to everything, nice safe area, walkable to everything, free parking, no resort fee, lovely outdoor breakfast area, and free breakfast with locally made, delicious fresh pastries. Highly recommend this wonderful hotel and would definitely stay here again. Thank you La Playa Inn!

I would like to give a 3.5 star rating to La Playa and that's mainly for its aesthetically pretty structure and the basics, the maker of the place has taken care of- La Playa is a beautifully constructed property. While constructing this Inn they took care of some very basic things such as noise proof sturdy wooden room doors, a nice wooden bathroom door, an effective and continuously running exhaust in there, the highlight is a night light that glows in the bathroom. What I loved about the place is the daily housekeeping full service, which is now unseen even in best of the places. Above average all packed breakfast is served in the lobby and there is coffee/tea supply available all round the day. Hospitality attitude of the staff is very tepid, it needs to buck up and get some energy. Another thing that could be done is putting up a heater on the first floor common area. It was chilly in the evenings (when we stayed). They put up a really beautifully decorated X'mas tree but it was not possible to sit there in the evenings and enjoy its beauty for it was quite cold outside. I had requested the reception if they could put up a heater but it din happen nor did I get an update on my request.

So we came to Santa Barbara for my husband's birthday and we stayed two days at the Hyatt place. We just wanted to try it out. It was nice but far from everything. We decided to stay an extra day and we called La Playa inn and were able to get a room. We were so excited because this was a busy weekend and Memorial Day and we had decided to stay till Tuesday. Plus, this is our favorite little boutique hotel that is conveniently located near everything. We literally park our car and we walk to State Street which is only a few minutes. The hotel itself is new and on our first visit it was around 6 months old. It's still as beautiful as ever and super clean..

COVID-friendly place to stay in Santa Barbara - walking distance to the beach, marina, Stearns wharf, and all the establishments on State Street. The inn is quite new (probably a couple of years old) so all the fixings are modern and functional. The room we stayed in was small for what we paid (over $1000 for two nights), but it was on the second floor and we could use their gorgeous outdoor seating area, which they keep clean and hygienic. They have both stairs and an elevator. Breakfast was limited (bakery items, fruit, granola bars, yogurt, juice and coffee) but enough to get us going! Parking is included and they have both covered and outdoor parking. We will likely stay somewhere else next time we are in the area as this place was quite pricey.

Discovered this place after striking out at a few other hotels (mostly due to my last minute planning, which I don't normally do). That said, this was an INCREDIBLY PLEASANT SURPRISE, exceeding ALL expectations. The location was terrific, not far off Shoreline Drive, and the room was GREAT. Very spacious, ultra clean and comfy. Ultra soft pillows and a wonderfully comfy king-size mattress. We were on the 2nd floor, and there was a very tranquil and inviting courtyard right there on the 2nd floor and stairs leading up to the 3rd floor. So very cool, but the real find was such a great room, and in my senior, retired status, I got a 15% AARP discount, so I really felt lucky !! Woo-hoo !! Also, the front desk employees were very courteous and helpful. We had to unexpectedly change our already reserved dinner plans, and the front desk clerk was calling around to places he recommended. Unfortunately, they were ALL booked, yes, even on a Tuesday night. It's summer, and Santa Barbara is a hot-spot destination. The point is, though, I really appreciated his attempts at finding us another restaurant. We only live an hour from S.B., so I don't know how many times I'd stay overnight, but if we do, we'll be coming back here for sure, and I wouldn't mind getting the same room (#217) !! This little gem of an inn is a GREAT place to stay.

    Very cute outdoor sitting area!

I really enjoyed my stay here. It has a very cute outdoor sitting area {see picture for reference}. This place is in a great location, close to the water, fine dinning and shopping! P.S. If you're in the area definitely go try Mission Street Ice Cream shop, they have horchata froyo and other unique flavors like cinnamon churro ice cream ETC!

They have a garage that opens around 8 or 9 AM (they don't open it too early because the garage door is loud for guests) and has free stuff for you to use including beach cruiser bikes, beach lounge chairs, towels, beach toys, umbrellas, and more. The lobby has snacks (granola bars, bananas, orange, etc) that were accessible during their hours (they close at 9) as well as a water machine from which you can fill your aluminum water bottles from your hotel room. I liked how they didn't use plastic trash bags, no plastic bottles, and no plastic soap containers. It seemed that they were really eco-friendly. We interacted with 3 hotel staff members and all were helpful and friendly. They gave us a list of kid-centric things to do. We stayed in unit 8 which had a queen bed and a living room as well as a kitchenette. The kitchen had everything we needed and the tools were clean, new and orderly. The unit was clean as well. The palm trees in the middle of the parking lot are nicely lit at nice. The water pressure in the bathroom was super strong. I liked that the bathroom had a window as well as the kitchen. Some rooms have a small patio door in the back. From our kitchen window we could see plants and flowers. Outside of our room there were cute tables with lots of flowers as well. It's a great location and walking distance to the beach. The bad: We accidentally went a few blocks down from here to Harbor View Inn first and then realized our mistake. Two different hotels! The bathroom is on the small side. The interesting: The parking lot is small so they don't allow big trucks/vans. If you check-out before 7:30 am (like we did) then you will leave your keys in the mailbox out front by their office.

We were upgraded to a suite which was wonderful. The room location was very quite, no noise issues. Plenty of room in the living room, bathroom and bedroom, a lot of charm. The rooms seem very clean and well equipped with a mini refrigerator Nespresso machine and robes. The only item missing oddly in the rooms are hotel luggage racks. We went up to the roof to see the pool, looked nice, it was empty due to the cooler weather temps in Santa Barbara during our stay. We did enjoy the "Wine Happy Hour" and the complementary Coffee station in the morning. There are ice machines on every floor and on the ice machine you can also get filter water for your water bottles. To note: it is a dog loving paradise at the hotel, dogs everywhere, big dogs little dogs, I love dogs so I had fun watching all of them. OK, so our only 2 criticisms are is the fee for parking per day $55... crazy! The second criticism is why can't the hotel spare space for a small gym? The hotel is affiliated with a Free 24 hour gym, "Key 2 Gym" which worked out great, BUT it's a 16 minute walk... a 1.07miles. Kimpton hotels are very pet friendly and that always gets extra stars from me. They don't charge any pet fee or have size restrictions and if you ask them, they will provide food and water bowls for your stay. As someone who always travels with her dog, that adds a lot of value for me. This location even told me that, while I couldn't bring the dog to the restaurant on site, I could bring her to the nightly wine reception. I did not ever end up attending one but it's the thought that counts. The location was great. It was about a 15-minute walk to beach and we did walk to Stearns Wharf multiple times during our stay. It typically took us about 10 minutes to walk to one of the many restaurants in the area that we had decided to go to each time. There are lots of coffee shops, wine bars and places to eat within walking distance so we ended up leaving our car parked for most of our stay. I believe the valet parking was an additional $50 or $60 a night but you do get in and out privileges. We just found that we didn't need the car much to get around on our visit and in the time it takes to have somebody pull it out for you, you could have already walked halfway to your destination. The amenities are nice. They have a rooftop pool, fitness center and then their complimentary coffee, etc. I did not end up taking advantage of any of those because I travel with my dog, so I can't speak directly to the quality of any of them, but I know most people appreciate having extras like that. Our room was cute and comfortable and felt very cozy. It was honestly probably smaller than I expected for the price point, but it had everything that we needed and I was happy with my stay. If you need a pet friendly, walkable place to stay, and you aren't on a super tight budget, I would definitely recommend looking into this hotel.

The bed was very comfortable, the evening wine and cheese service was a nice touch, and the continental breakfast had a decent selection of pastries. There is a pretty courtyard in the front with comfortable outdoor furniture. Also, the room we had included a little kitchen with a stove and full fridge. CONS- Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives. The room had a damp, musty smell and the towels were rough and uncomfortable. The biggest issue was that the hotel was renovating the room directly next to ours. We endured CONSTANT construction noise and workers yelling throughout the day, and it continued well into the evening. My husband and I brought the issue to the attention of the front desk three separate times, both to daytime and evening attendants. Each time we were told, "I'll let the manager know." Unfortunately, we never heard from the manager, no one followed up with us, and nothing was done to address the situation. The noise continued for all the days we were here. We were not offered another room, an apology, or any form of compensation. Even a simple gesture, such as a complimentary bottle of wine, would have shown that the hotel cared about our experience, but nothing at all was offered. In fact we were told by the female evening attendant to "Contact your booking agency to complain". To make matters worse, one of the reasons we booked this hotel was the advertised back patio, but it was not accessible during our stay. If an advertised amenity is unavailable, guests should be informed before booking. If a hotel is undergoing renovations, guests should either be notified in advance or not placed directly next to active construction. Between the constant noise, the musty room, the unavailable amenity, and the complete lack of customer service and follow-through, this stay fell far below expectations. Truthfully, we would have stayed here again if the manager or staff showed any kind of care for the situation. I cannot recommend staying here.

Perfect anniversary stay -- peaceful, friendly, and right on the beach…read more We stayed at Santa Barbara Inn for our 25th anniversary and paid for the beachside view. It was absolutely worth it. The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful, and what really stood out was their text-based concierge system. They text you before arrival, and you can ask for anything during your stay -- they respond quickly and clearly. Honestly, that alone made the stay feel effortless. They even had the car ready before we got downstairs. It felt like having a pocket concierge. The view was fantastic, noise levels were low, and the beach is literally across the street, right at a crosswalk. We spent a lot of time on the balcony -- the room was large, the patio was generously sized, and we loved reading out there with the sounds of birds and seals in the background. Beds were very comfortable, the bathroom had great water pressure, and the jetted tub was basically a sauna -- a huge plus after walking all day. Free water bottles in the room were also appreciated. We ate at Convivo onsite -- it was fine, solid food, but a bit pedestrian flavor-wise. That said, there are so many excellent places to eat in Santa Barbara, and we walked to several without any trouble. Very walkable area for both beach time and dining. For car lovers: there's constant classic car and hot rod cruising along the beach, which was fun to watch from the balcony. It's not cheap, but it's reasonable for the location, room size, and level of service. Aging lackluster hotel acting like it is a luxury resort…read more The location is really poor for walking around actual Santa Barbara, it is 15+ minutes to walk downtown. The hotel breakfast restaurant is $33 for the buffet with just hotel pans of food, birds in the area, and children touching pastries and putting them back. The $40/night resort fee is totally unjustified: one small crowded pool filled with loud kids; 1 bike rental for the whole stay via their vendor, so unless you go by yourself there goes more money; the rest is even more meaningless, just up your rates if you want more money. In the room, the beds are really lumpy and the mattresses are showing age. I had an "upgraded" room with a balcony of a view of...someone else's balcony. The wifi only really worked in the front half of the room, and beware of accessibility as some rooms are stairs-only. Just don't stay here? I was with my dad and he is Hilton Diamond Lifetime and he said they should re-do it.

It took quite some time to get through check in as both employees were very slow and the process appeared to be outdated and inefficient. After check in we went to the Set restaurant for a bite to eat while we waited for our room to become available. We waited at the restaurant check in while several employees walked by ignoring us for several minutes. Eventually one of the employees who had walked by us a couple of times finally showed us to a table. We were at the table for over 6 minutes before contacted by our server (she was very pleasant). We noticed a charge to our credit card of approximately $200 more than our stated total. I assumed this was a security deposit. I attempted to phone the front desk, on several occasions however the AI attendant continued to advise that all front desk personnel were busy helping other guests and AI could help. When I advised AI what I needed they attempted to send me to accounting or finance, not sure which but there was no answer. The following day I went to the front desk in person to ask about the $200. When I entered the lobby I was first in line and three employees were helping other guests. When the first employee finished she stared at her computer for a minute or two, looked up at me and walked into the back room. A second employee then finished with his guest (now there were three other guests besides myself in line) and he too ignored us all and walked into the back room. About 7 minutes later the first employee returned and assisted me. When I inquired as to the $200 increase on the credit card and mentioned could it be the deposit, she said they charge $150 a night (we were staying 2 nights) so the charge should be an extra $300 that will eventually come off the bill. When I asked why it shows up on your invoice as $200, she couldn't say. I asked if I could check my room bill from the tv in our room, she said no. We then went to the Set restaurant for dessert. When we arrived there were about 7 people at the bar and 6 parties total at the various tables inside and out. Guessing about 20% occupancy. After 3-4 minutes the hostess came up and asked how many in our party (3) she said the servers told her they were backed up and to hold any new customers for 10 minutes. We told her we were here just for dessert. She checked with the servers again and they told her we still had to wait. After approximately 8 minutes we were seated. Housekeeping has been fantastic. However, the Set restaurant and Front desk staff did not deliver. For a four star property the customer service was atrocious and very disappointing. No communication from the front desk, you can't make eye contact with a customer then leave the room with speaking. The restaurant crew was more concerned with the group at the bar and engaging with them than assisting other customers.

4.5/5 stars! Stayed for a quick weekend getaway at the start of summer and had a great time…read more Stayed in room 314 Pros: - GREAT location. Literally around the corner was State Street which is full of restaurants and ships. A nice 15 min walk to the pier - Room 314 had beautiful huge windows that overlooked the street - Staff are all very friendly and professional - Cute outdoor balcony/patio area on the 2nd floor, right off the elevator. Nice comfy outdoor couches, chairs, tables. Shaded and cool. It was a great spot for a quick afternoon drink, or if you need to do some work. We were the only ones there both times we went during the weekend - Lobby was small but very cute - Free bikes for rent (see picture)? DTSB is very bike friendly so it was a great way to get around - Valet used a text service (scan the QR code on your ticket to text the valet to bring your car around), so minimal wait time - Room had a really nice sized drink fridge. I was able to put in an entire pizza box - 2 sinks - Keurig coffee machine in room - Smart TV, I was able to sign into my streaming services - Lobby has a small bar that served coffee and continental brekkie for a fee - Relatively quiet on the 3rd floor. My room was right off the elevator and you could definitely hear some people walking to and from, but honestly pretty quiet. The ice machine was across the hall and that could be noisy but I only heard 1 person getting ice my entire stay Cons: - I can only speak for the room I booked 314, but the shower was a stall with the dreaded flappy shower curtain. If you're uncoordinated (like me) or big and tall, you will definitely feel the slap of that wet curtain on your body while showering - So the showerhead was actually leaking, spraying water above the showerhead onto the ceiling. It not worth my complaining or changing rooms, so I never said anything, but the last morning, before I checked out, it miraculously stopped spraying water. - If you're sensitive to city noises I suggest opting for a room that overlooks the hotels parking lot, away from the street. Our room faced the street right above corner on State Street and Haley, and even being on the 3rd floor, we definitely heard some night life noises - Expensive! This was on the pricey side but, due to location. I thought it was definitely worth it - The hotel is definitely older, but they worked hard to renovate it. It's not just a motel with a facelift - No pool, but the beach is just a 15 min walk away Tips: - Definitely sign up for the Hilton honors app, it'll make it easy to check in and you can pick your own room, get room key access, and check out, etc Would I come again? Yes

But it is a nice and clean Tapestry boutique hotel with comfortable beds and spacious bathroom. The common areas are limited, but very nicely put together. The one downfall of this hotel is breakfast. This hotel gives you the option of points or credit toward breakfast. Definitely take the points. One morning there was only 1 person working breakfast and she could not handle working the floor, the second day I guess the breakfast staff called in sick, because they were closed. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes just down the block from the hotel. So, just don't go into the expectation that there is a restaurant at this hotel.

The food was excellent across the board, and the service was friendly and quick. We got there before the big breakfast rush, which probably helped. As we were leaving, I did overhear another table mention they'd been waiting a while for someone to take their order, so it sounds like experiences may vary when things get busy, but that definitely wasn't the case for us. The staff was great, valet was complimentary with dining (which is nice since there's no self-parking), and the whole experience felt easy and relaxed. If you go, try to grab a table on the upper terrace. The views and atmosphere make it the best place to sit. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.

At first they were only going to offer it during the week but when I explained that my Aunt is a teacher and wouldn't be able to go during the week, they spoke with dining management and said they could accommodate us on a weekend. Had some issues in regards to the reservation system with the wrong date initially scheduled, but when I reached out to Maria she rectified. We went to El Encanto on Saturday, Sept 27 for a 1:00pm tea service and it did not disappoint. Our server Lisa was excellent! She was attentive, professional and very kind. She really helped make the experience special. We started with a glass of champagne and beef wellington, flavor was excellent and the beef melted in your mouth. Our tea tray included a variety of desserts, all beautifully done along with some additional savory options as well. Everything we were served was delicious. We were also served warm scones mid way through service. We especially enjoyed all the different tea options they provided based on Zodiac signs, very unique. The view from the table in the dining room was spectacular. All the staff we interacted with were great. If El Encanto does bring back their tea service, I would highly recommend.
