I had a really disappointing experience at Coastal Allergy Care. The wait time alone was frustrating. I didn't receive a clear explanation of my condition or a meaningful treatment plan. It felt more like a box checking appointment than actual care. The biggest issue was the lack of transparency around testing and billing. Additional tests were performed without clearly explaining the cost or whether they were covered by insurance. There was no upfront discussion, and I never received a proper breakdown or explanation of benefits. To make matters worse, I left without real answers or a plan, and later received a large, unexpected bill. Instead of providing a straightforward way to resolve or pay the balance, there was no clear online payment option, and the bill was sent to collections. Overall, the experience felt disorganized and lacking in communication. I would strongly caution anyone considering this office to ask very direct questions about costs, insurance coverage, and billing practices before agreeing to anything. read more

Dr. Porch-Curren is the best allergist I have seen. I have had allergies my entire life and have experiences with many allergy doctors ranging from great to absolutely terrible, and when I first met her I could tell she was a great one. I have been under her care for over 15 years and she has helped me navigate countless obstacles as it relates to my health, not just within the bubble of allergies and asthma, but also how those can relate to and affect other parts of the body. Additionally, all of her staff in the Camarillo location are always so kind and helpful. I HIGHLY recommend meeting with her and picking her brain for all of her amazing knowledge. read more

I used to be a patient here but have since switched to a new/far better allergist for my shots. First thing to be aware of: THEY DOUBLE DIP for billing. They will bill your insurance, then bill you for your portion, then months later tell you that your insurance reverse-approved your claim and denied it, so you owe them more money. Then when you call your insurance company, they tell you that they didn't change anything and that your provider is likely double-dipping. Buyer beware. Do NOT give them more money. I don't know if the biller is just exceptionally bad at her job or if this is intentional, but she will call you threatening to send you to collections and she is absolutely incorrect. You will spend hours of your own time researching and double-checking figures to find out that your account is actually in good standing. Then you have to argue with her repeatedly. Secondly: Allergy shot hours are never accurate. If they say shots start at 1:30pm, that really means 1:50 at the earliest. They are wandering back from lunch at 1:30 and then take their sweet time gossiping or something until you finally ask if they are going to start doing shots soon. Then the ladies at the front will roll their eyes at you and go tell them that people are waiting. Additionally, there is one nurse in particular who wipes your arm with alcohol as usual, but then NEVER actually gives the shot where she just cleaned. These are supposed to be trained professionals. Third: There is a TV in the lobby that is so freaking loud that it will give you sensory overload. So you will be sitting there, frustrated that they are late again, stressing about getting back to work, and unable to think because the TV is so loud. Why they have a TV at all is perplexing. Everyone just wants to have peace and quiet and read or use their own phones (aka a pocket tv). Fourth: There is a red-headed older woman who is sometimes at the check-in counter who is the most catty person I've ever seen. While sitting in the lobby, you will observe her checking people in and then holding a folder up in front of her face to whisper something to her colleague. Overall, this place is extremely unprofessional and you should avoid it at all costs. I'm thrilled with my new allergist and all of the staff there. They treat people with dignity and respect, unlike Coastal Allergy Care. read more

We were referred to Dr. Poarch when my one year old was diagnosed with multiple food allergies, and I honestly cannot imagine navigating this journey without her. From day one, she has been incredibly comforting, thorough, and genuinely invested in our daughter's well being. She stays up to date on the latest, life changing treatments and options, which has made a huge difference in giving our daughter a more normal and safe way of life. What once felt overwhelming is now something we feel equipped to manage because of her guidance. Her bedside manner is truly unmatched. She has a natural way of making my daughter feel comfortable and at ease during visits. As a parent with a long list of questions every time, I never feel rushed. I was on the edge of non functioning, with breathing and living a normal life, I was getting sinus infections multiple times a year. I had a terrible experience. We felt neglected, waited almost 2 hrs for the Dr when we had the first appointment, no review of medical history before the appointment and no follow up. I had the first appointment of the day. Dr. Porch was running an hour late and they let us just sit in the room without knowing what was going on. When I came out of the room an hour after we were taken in they let me know she will be in with us as soonn as she gets there. When she got there she decided to take a different appointment who was scheduled after us first. It was an hour and 45 minutes before we even saw the Dr. I asked her why she took another appointment before us and she said sorry i thought it was going to be a quick one. It really wasnt fair to us. She had no medical history reviewed for our appointment and perscribed us medicine we had already been taking. They preformed a sctracth test but did not inform me that would cost a lot extra. They said they would follow up in a few months. She never called back never offered another appointment never checked in. We felt like she did not even care about us. We got a bill months later and when we discussed what happpened and they completley dropped the ball they wouldnt even offer a penny off the bill. We paid inn full and I let themknow I would be writting a review. I hope you find a Dr that cares about the patients. However in our eperience this is not the one. read more

Worst allergy office ever been too, step back in time or another dimension. Their integrity as far as allergy shot build up is suspect, like double compared to other offices I've been to. Thats a lot of money/profit. The receptionist is super rude and weird. Their billing is screwed up too, so if you have HSA/FSA, stay on top of that, because you will end up paying a lot of money if you procrastinate and ask for a statement. My first time here yesterday to be allergy tested. Long process from start to end. I was there 3.5 hours. Isabell took all my medical info and was warm and friendly. Melissa is the PA I saw and she explained options. The gal who did all my allergy testing was very sweet, but I forgot her name. Wait time to get results was long, but all in all everything was explained, and I was given options on what could be done. Of course I'll try the easy one, before having to go for the shots. I found out I'm allergic to dogs. I have three. Pretty depressing, as they are my world, and I'd never get rid of them. Staff was friendly at it was a pretty busy place even at 8:30 am. read more

Flagrant discrimination by this office against a disabled patient with Medicare/Healthnet. I set up an appointment to see Dr Porch at the office of Dr Christine Lee-Kim by phone for a disabled patient covered 100% by Medicare with Healthnet. All information was provided to the appointment setter on the phone, including full insurance coverage information. I was then called back with instructions to have her Doctor send a faxed direct formal referral "as it is Medicare". The Doctor immediately faxed this and they called me back to confirm the appointment. On the day of the appointment, the patient was in the middle of her lengthy and thorough intake exam with the Physician's Assistant, and suddenly (after at least 30 minutes) a staff member rushed in and told him to stop the meeting because her insurance didn't cover her. We both assured them that it did, but she was asked to leave! She was basically refused care by this office. We followed up by phone with her Medicare and Healthnet coverage, and representatives confirmed that she was fully covered. It was determined that Coastal Allergy Care had been unable to bill a prior patient with Medicare/Healthnet and so assumed that this patient would also be unbillable. A very helpful HEALTHNET representative took the time and called the billing department at Coastal Allergy Care and attempted to educate this person on how Healthnet works as the supplemental billing and guaranteed that this patient would be 100% covered. Yet they STILL refused to see her. So ultimately, our conclusion is this office DISCRIMINATES AGAINST THE DISABLED! Disgusting! Shame on you! read more

My experience at Coastal Allergy has always been phenomenal. However, in trying to make an appointment for my son today, I was treated in an extremely rude manner by a younger girl at the front desk (we have dealt with Susan at the front desk before, and she has been wonderful, so this doesn't reflect on her at all). This is a very busy time of year, so it's understandably difficult to find appointments that work for everyone. After the girl I spoke with found a few dates that ultimately didn't work because of things that are truly out of my control, she snapped at me and blamed me for not being able and willing to work with her. I apologized and explained that the dates offered were ones that I simply had no control over, and even told her how much I appreciated her checking multiple dates for me. The next thing I know, she hung up on me, and when I called the office back, she claimed that the phone fell. While I thanked her again, and told her I appreciated her effort, I am extremely disappointed with her overall lack of customer service and will be making my son's appointment elsewhere. read more

I've never encountered a doctor who took as much time as she did to review my history and health. I had lots of questions and she answered everyone. I had to bring my baby boy in because he had an allergic reaction to peanut butter. Doctor Kanter prescribed a bunch of medications and ordered a blood test to look for a wide array of potential allergens. My main concern was just the peanut butter. I went to Quest to get the baby's blood drawn, but his vessels were so little that they had a really hard time. It was very traumatic for me because it looked like they took a tenth of his blood volume and my baby cried and struggled the whole time. When I went back to the office for the lab results, we discovered that the doctor had ordered the wrong panel and we didn't have the information that we needed on peanuts. So, I asked the doctor what we should do and he said, "well, just don't give him peanuts." So, he made my baby suffer because of his incompetence, and I got a bill for labs that are useless to me. Dr. Kanter asked me how the medications he prescribed were doing. I told him I stopped them because my baby was having an allergic reaction. I told him that the areas applied with ointment turned flaming red and the baby would cry in agony. The doctor yelled at me and said it wasn't an allergic reaction and that I was causing my baby pain and suffering by not following his instructions. I told him that according to package insert, I was suppose to stop the application of the medication when the skin turns red. He kept insisting that the reaction wasn't an allergic one and I needed to keep applying it even though it made my baby cry. Now, that just goes against common sense. read more

I brought my baby in to see Dr. Lee-Kim because his blood test showed that he was allergic to the nuts family. There are so many factors during our visit that makes me feel that Dr. Lee-Kim is incompetent in dealing with infants and toddlers. After the visit, we went to see another doctor specializing in pediatric allergy and these are the differences between her and the others below: Skin test- in the office, they had my baby lay down on top of me and I had to hold him down for about 10 minutes to see if there's any reactions. Have you ever attempt to hold down a baby, not allowing them to move for 10 minutes while their back starts getting really itchy? Other office allow me to hold him and play with him, as long as we don't touch the back. Our main concern was my son's peanut allergy- I wanted to try it out in a physician office, so There's a doctor around if anything happens. Per Dr. Lee-Kim, she does not do oral tolerance test until the child can communicate clearly to adults regarding his symptoms. I was advice to avoid all nuts until he's 2-3 years old before coming back for OTT. I have to avoid everything nut related, even those that are processed in nuts facilities because he might be severely allergic but we won't know for few years. Our current doctor let us come to his office twice a month to slowly test different nut allergies even though he is only 1 year old. Now, I have a clearer idea of what to avoid and what symptoms to watch out for when he has allergic reaction. I feel like Dr Lee-Kim provided us text-book answer, but is unable to translate it to workable real-life scenarios for us She may be perfectly proficient in treating kids and adult allergies, but I will not recommend her for babies and toddlers read more

With proper care I see my allergy's as a minor inconvenience. I can schedule time easily, they are so nice there. The whole staff is always professional and helpful. MELISSA HOWIE.-SHE SAVED MY LIFE!!! Earlier this year, on a routine visit at Coastal, with PA Melissa Howie, I mentioned I was not feeling that well, but it certainly was no big deal. Melissa however, after examining me recommended I get a chest X-ray, which I did the following day. I'm in excellent health and extremely fit and athletic, so it was a shock to find that I had a small nodule on my lung. A scan confirmed this and that it was a rare form of lung cancer. Surgery a few weeks later removed the malignant tumor with safe margins and I'm totally cancer free. If Melissa had not been as intuitive and proactive as she was, the tumor may have only been discovered when it was at stage 4 rather than at stage 1. I'll be forever grateful to her and sincerely believe she saved my life. read more

We waited for an hour and a half for the doctor. When dr. Kanter arrived he was incredibly arrogant and rude. He talked about himself a lot and pretty much told me not to speak unless I was answering his questions. I have heard Dr. Porch is good but stay away from dr. Kanter. He in the old, white man's club of ego maniacs but actually he's just a complacent old doctor that doesn't see you or listen to you as an individual. read more

I brought my 13 year old son in for asthma, eczema, and allergies - Wait was excessively long despite having an appointment. Dr Kanter was rude and could not answer any of my questions intelligibly. He seemed irritated by my questions despite having a sign on his office wall that read "Please ask questions regarding your treatment". He prescribed singulair for one month but refused to allow the pharmacy to refill it each month without additional unnecessary and excessive office visits. (obviously to collect the money for each visit) About 6 months later, my son was on a trip out of town when he had a painful eczema flair up and needed a prescription cream. I called the office 3 times and left messages asking for the cream to be called in to the pharmacy. They assured me my call would be returned by end of business day - which is was not. The following day they called to decline ordering a prescription since he had not been in the office in 6 months. I would understand if he hadn't been seen in a over a year - but it was ridiculous to let him suffer. I wish I had listened to the friends and family that had warned me against seeing Dr Kanter - as you can see based on other reviews, he has a terrible reputation. Some advice - work on your bed side manner, pretend to care and find ways to actually HELP the patients you treat. I'd put your medical care on par with Ms. Cleo's psychic reading services - total scam and waste of money. read more

After seeking help and relief for several years for severe allergic reactions, she was the first doctor to truly help me. She took the time and asked the questions that five other doctors had not taken nor asked me. I can't believe I've suffered over two years, but now am finally experiencing genuine relief! Talk about am unorganized structure and waste of time, I signed up to complete allergy shots here when i lived in the area. I received a call letting me know my vial had been mixed and it was ok for me to 'drop in' for a shot. i confirmed i did not need an appointment to come in and the lady confirmed i did not, she said i just needed to drop in for my shots. I dropped in and after not being acknowledged, i signed in and waited for my name to be called, approx 20 mins later my name was called. great. but then they were unable to locate my file and then after i explained i was new to their office they told me i would not be able to get a shot because the dr was not there, in fact he would not be there for another hour. they told me i could wait. really? i work too, what about some respect for my time? i told them i specifically asked when they called me if i needed an appointment and was told no. of course they were just clerical and unable to do anything about that or even apologize for the misinformation. all i was told was that i could wait another hour (making my total time there 1.5 hours) or come back on tuesday when a charge nurse would be there, but was also told the charge nurse would have to decide whether or not she wanted to give me my shot. really? why even give me the option if chances are i'd be wasting more time and gas just to potentially be turned away again. what they should have done was set me up with an appointment to make sure i am seen by the dr. horrible customer service, too bad i am stuck there as they have already prepared my vials and i have already paid $1000+ in testing costs. read more

I have had horrible allergies my entire life, but immunotherapy seems to help significantly. I have gone to this office for over a year. It is the first time I have been to an allergy office that allows Medical Assistants to administer the injections, rather than Registered Nurses. Last week, I had my usual 3 jabs and noticed numbness and tingling in my left arm, which radiated into my fingers. I alerted the Medical Assistant and asked to speak with either a Registered Nurse or a physician. She said, "They're too busy. We probably hit a nerve. It happens. That will go away in about two weeks." I was dissatisfied with that response and again asked to speak with either a Registered Nurse or a physician; my request was again denied. I then began researching other allergists in the area and found one. The new doctor asked for my serum, my shot schedule, skin testing results and my serum formula. It took several phone calls and visits to organize this. When I went in to collect these items, the receptionist (Susan) immediately said, "We're busy. Take a seat." It seems that the usual greeting in this office is that they are "busy", unless, of course, the patient is making a payment. I still do not have all the items my new allergist requested, which means that I will need to suffer through testing again. This clinic seems to be run rather cheaply - Medical Assistants instead of Registered Nurses. Also, their injections times are very limited. They do not seem to look after their patients very well. Dr. Porch saved my life! In June, i was having some tightness in my chest. She told me to go get a chest x-ray right away. Los Robles Hospital also drew blood cultures which were positive. It turned out I had endocarditis which is a heart valve infection. If it had gone untreated, I probably would have died from it. Thank you, Dr. Porch for telling me to get a chest x-ray when you did. I'm very happy with the treatment and care I have received from Coastal Allergy Care. Dr. Porch and Kanter are great and the nurses are wonderful! I see them for weekly shots and they are ALL caring, sweet and knowledgable. I know they are not all RN's but so appreciate their attention to details. It's been a long haul, I've been getting three shots a week since last June because I have so many allergies, but feel so much better. Their waiting room is clean and the administration staff is very helpful. I appreciate their convenient injection schedule. Some days they do get rather jammed up with clients but that has only happened a couple of times in all the months I have been going there. Literally one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a physician and staff! I made an appointment for my son and I after we both had allergic reactions. The staff was unpleasant and left us in a room waiting for so long that we had to come back later to see the doctor. The doctor seemed to be very socially awkward. He interrupted me multiple times when I tried to explain why were there. He gave us unnecessary tests, told us that we had no allergies to the painful pin tests, and then wrongly diagnosed my son with asthma. My pediatrician later confirmed this was completely inaccurate and advised us not to fill the prescriptions he had prescribed. After the awkward visit with a wrongful diagnosis, I received an enormous bill for thousands of dollars. I of course thought that they didn't enter my insurance information correctly. I tried to contact them several times to give them my correct insurance information. I was then contacted by an extremely rude lady who accused me of not having money to pay my bills and having no respect for this great doctor that I saw.
