Weather before our trip had been very tough with high winds and rough seas. We lucked out on weather but fish were scattered and not biting at first. Andy used his years of experience and we ended up with a pretty good haul of quality sized albacore. Our group was half experienced anglers and half newbies. Andy and Jim took their time and made sure everyone was comfortable and got the most out of the adventure. There are many things to see and do in and around Garibaldi. We stayed in Rockaway Beach (Andy's on the money recommendation!) and explored from Tillamook up to Brighton and there are still many places and things we want to go back and see. We lost a bunch of rockfish because the deckhand was busy removing fish for other people. The deckhand did not allow us to bring up our own fish, so we sometimes had to wait minutes. We paid the 7-11 year old child price for my 8 year old son, but they did not allow him to have his own fishing rod, even though he loves fishing and has been fishing many times. Instead, they said he had to share a fishing rod with an adult. At the end, after I tipped them for the trip (which admittedly wasn't a huge amount after the unsatisfying trip), they yelled at me saying that the tip was too small and would not let me off the dock until I gave them a larger tip.

They make a great team, provide the very best equipment, and do everything to ensure you have a whale (tuna?) of a time. We departed the port very early in the morning and proceeded to blast by all the other charters (including ones that started hours earlier) en route to the fishing. Nobody digs taking your time over the bar and their boat guarantees you don't. Upon hitting the fishing "grounds" (why do they call it that!?), we trolled around for about an hour, had a hit or two to tell us we were getting to the right area, and then suddenly all hell broke loose. The next hour or two was nonstop action with a fresh 25-35lb fish entering the boat every couple of minutes. All hands were tied up as we filled the boat in very little time. Based on radio communication, I believe that not only were we one of the first boats to the target water, but we were the first to find the fish, and I'm pretty certain the first to return to port. As much as I like boat rides, charter fishing is not about the ride, and both me and my body were happy to be back on land in the shortest amount of time. By 5pm our fish had been cleaned, packed, and we were on our way home. Everyone left with a filled cooler and a beaming smile on their face. Random notes: - Lunch and drinks are provided. - Bring your own cooler. - Wear sunscreen. - Wear rubber rain boots. - Overdose on dramamine or get your doctor to prescribe you "the patch" - Pack light - you really don't need much. - Save the drinking for the return. - Jackpole. - There will be blood.

Our Captain, Nick Hernandez was fantastic. He took us out past Buoy 10. We caught our limits of salmon, plus a bunch of mackeral (They went back in the ocean!) on the way we retrieved the 3 crab pots that Nick set on the way out. Omg!! There were 86 crabs. We kept 42 of them!!!! We got back to shore by noon. The wonderful crew at the marina cleaned and fileted the salmon and expertly vacuum sealed them at a nominal extra fee. ...and, their crew steamed all 42 crabs in this huge pot that gets lowered into the boiling water at NO CHARGE!!! We couldn't believe it. We took our haul back to where we are staying and had a huge seafood fest!!! It was a great day from start to finish! Thank you for a fabulous experience!!!!!

Looks like maybe some people who live in the nearby apartments may have some "permanent" crab pots that they leave out day after day... Not that we would know by pulling one up to see if they had any ;) I would love to try this place out at the start of crab season as we were getting quite a few crabs just way small ones. My cousin said this is by the sewer outlet too, so don't eat the crab butter is my suggestion if you were to eat any from here, not that I am a fan of crab butter anyways. But otherwise nutrients am I right? Haha
