I recently purchased a used vehicle and the dealership set the financing up with Coast Hills Federal Credit Union in November of 2025 the same week I went into a branch in Arroyo Grande to open an Account for the payments to be processed from. I received the interest rate decrease for "Auto payment" which was never processed on the date in the paperwork, I had manually pay it myself. I went into another branch and tried again to have set up and again it didn't work, I went back in a spoke with manager and she set it up again, again it didn't work. during all of this a third party handles their insurance paperwork. The branch never asked about insurance, which we had listed on our policy the day we purchased the car, this third party company only sends -emails and you cannot reply to these emails. Apparently they had sent a letter stating that we need to provide insurance which I must have missed, the second notice came and it had all these threats about charging us $648.00 for 6months. I uploaded our policy card that every other bank loan had accepted, it took them 5 days to respond and denied the document, stating they don't accept these cards and I needed to submit the entire policy and show the lien holder as Coast Hills, etc. again I submit it. And I get another email stating it will take them 5 days to respond that day I look at my car loan online and see that the balance of the loan increase by $324.00 as a "CPI loan advance" I went to the branch again asked what this was and the Teller had two pieces of paper stamped together with information about this insurance issue " because it it is this common" the teller tells me that this happened to him as well. Another manager looks at the policy I sent which I had on my phone and said he saw a problem that the address I had on my policy was not the correct one for the insurance ( it was on Coast Hills website) And that it would need to be fixed and resubmitted again. Which angered me beyond belief. I went to the parking lot and contacted my Credit Union I have been with years (Schools First) and started a refinance application which was so easy. All online, I was already Pre approved. So I will be paying of this terrible loan, terrible credit union "Coast Hills" will no longer be getting my money. I recommend look to another Credit Union as they are not all the same. Schools First Federal Credit Union is the best, live people to talk to no stupid third parties to handle important documents with nobody to speak with. read more

Tried to make a loan payment over the phone couldn't get anybody to answer the phone after a few calls finally, a man answers & transfer me to a payment center where the phone just rings for eternity. No answer. read more

I'm a non-member and I had 5 30 year old savings bonds that I needed to cash. My credit union is not in the area but they pointed me in the direction of CoastHills. I called ahead to confirm they could help me and they said they could so I headed over with my ID and my 5 bonds. Considering the age of the bonds I have to assume that cashing them is an unusual request, even more so since I am not even a member of their credit union. The teller was super polite and let me know it was going to take a little while because this was something she had never done for a non-member but assured me that it could be done, she asked the other tellers for instruction but none of them had ever done it, so she popped open a few manuals and went through the process. It took about 15 minutes, but she got it done. She could have easily told me that she could only do it for members or pass me along but the teller took her time to get it all done. I would give them a zero if I could. I have banked here for 39 years and They went from 5 star service to zero in the last couple of years. They put a $300 charge onto a credit card I closed 3 months prior. I closed the card due to problems with the bank, I paid It off in person at the branch to a zero balance interest and all and closed it! It took them 2 days to give me any explanation, and stated they had put someone else's payment onto my card and it took them 3 months to figure it out the mistake, therefore the person on the other end of the transaction was out the $300 for 3 months before anything was done. Management does nothing to fix problems in this branch, I have been in multiple times about unidentifiable withdrawals from the account. When I purchased a car I went to the bank for a loan and they wanted to charge me more than double what the dealer got for me and the dealer got the loan through Coasthills, no explanation from the bank. After 39 years I am closing this account due to the banks incomitance. read more

These folks can't do anything right. Tried to make a wire transfer and they couldn't figure out how to do it, opened a savings account and every time I take money out they ask what I'm spending the money on (It's none of their business!), I was offered overdraft protection which I opted for, and keep getting charged for NSF funds that are THERE, I asked them to cancel my credit card and I keep getting notices that they would like to increase my credit limit...and the list goes on..... read more

I opened a new account today and did not have a appointment but was accommodated unexpectedly. I live in Grover Beach and primarily will use that branch but its nice to know i have friends in Atascadero. I travel for work doing Home Health Visits and could not make a appointment easily due to the nature of my work. The manager must have seen me working from my truck and 15 minutes later when their 10 am appointment did not show stepped outside and asked me if I would like to open a account. Inside I was treated and assisted by a knowledgeable accounts consultant Emma who walked me through the hole process and set me up with my 2 accounts. Then we went to the teller and made the deposit and i re CEI Ed a stainless stele Sesloc Travel coffee mug for my truck. My suggestions are to make a appointment if you can since the whole process takes 45 min - a hour. I am writing this to encourage other residents in the Central Coast to stop in and check out their account services and benefits of being a member. If your going to be in Paso Robles, Atascadero, San Luis Obispo or Arroyo Grande it is worth your time to schedule a appointment for new member services. JG: this is YOUR fault for not reading the brochures offered by the bank and knowing what each individual account details are. Ask questions, did anyone ever teach you this? Maybe not and if that's the case, I am sorry. The world won't take care of you, you need to care of yourself! Natalie V.: You must be the only person in the world who doesn't know that checks take time to clear. Banking 101 girl! And you or your husband being short is not the bank's fault. It sounds like you need to get your finances in order before you blame the bank for your overdrafts. I really have liked banking at Coast Hills. Their fees are extremely low compared to the big boys and they are very helpful. I have two loans with them and a few accounts and it has been a big money saver in regards to the rates I have received from them. Their staff is helpful and the SLO branch has Angelina who's a star! She's great. A couple of people in that office could use smiling once in a while but other than that it's a good place to have your basic banking and loans if you need them. read more

Couldn't agree more with the negative reviews. If they won't let you speak to the CEO or even provide the information to attempt to contact, it's worse than a big bank...... I had issues with their loan servicing and attempted to resolve at customer service level. To say that they were useless is an understatement. When I attempted to contact CEO, I was not able to find his phone number nor email anywhere on their website. I emailed customer service and received a response stating that they do not provide that information. My husband and I just recently applied for a home purchase loan. From day one I knew we were in for trouble but thought how incompetent can they really be, well the answer is VERY! The person taking our request had never done an application of a home purchase and it took forever. We called a few days earlier and never even got a reply so we just stopped in the bank and got the process started. It took 2 hours do do a 1/2 hour application. Then it was to go to a loan officer, days later no response or attempt to contact us. I called them and they said OH the entry clerk didn't find a match for your type of purchase so it just sat there. I finally got connected to someone in the loan department that worked with me to find a loan type that matched so we could continue the process. After long days and many conversations we got to the appraisal point and whoever they hired to do the appraisal didn't know what they were doing as underwriting would not approve the loan based on how the appraiser did our comparable. After 4 weeks of run around we found a mortgage lender in the area of our new home to be recommended by our realtor and within 2 weeks and their selected appraiser we be closing this Monday the 8th of July 2012!!! This is where my husband has banked for 25 years, me on the other hand use a different bank here in town thank God. If it were my choice I would have our mutual account at Coast Hills FCU moved to another bank that is competent. read more

Bank among friends what a joke. Just try calling your local bank. You get a call center........ They freeze you checking account if you are 10 days late on a $10 credit card payment. Even if you have $10,000 You cant even go to you local branch and make you payment. They Freeze you Checking Account for up to 7 days. The credit card payment goes to Florida. For the past couple of months (since, at least, 6 Feb 2016) I've been unable to access my account on-line; no customer agent I've spoken to knows why...but invariably offered me my monthly statements for a $12/each fee, which they'd email. Tonight I learned that my online account was actually "deactivated" - it cannot work and effectively doesn't exist, though the on-line account is set up to make it appear that my on-line access is valid ... it even lets me change my password and rejects attempts to use a prior password [a password on an account that's deactivated!]. If I want my on-line access restored, I need to work that out with someone over the phone during normal business hours. I believe Coast Hills Credit Union is contriving this to induce me & others to pay for statements we're entitled to for free. Even knowing I cannot access my statements, Coast Hills will NOT provide them unless I pay the $12 fee ... until they create a new account which they assure me I can access on-line... I've been with that Credit Union for decades (when it used to be the "Vandenberg Federal Credit Union" and customer service has degraded to a point unmatched by any financial institution I deal with among four States. read more

I wish there was a negative star rating. This is by far the WORST credit union/banking facility I have ever experienced! Thieves! Thieves! Thieves! The latest stupidness from this not-for-the-people "credit union": I had an online payment scheduled for today. My account was short $26, so at 9:34 This morning my husband deposited $28 cash into my account - nope, not soon enough, they're still going to charge me $29 overdraft fee. THEY DIDN'T EVEN COVER THE CHECK!! They just took my money!! Her "solution" to this need of mine (as they tout they offer solutions) "Put more money into the account so they won't charge me again if the company tries to recash the check." - Um...we're talking less than $30, obviously I'm a little strapped for cash! The money I owed was there!!!!! and now it's not because of their overdraft fee! This is not an isolated incidence - one of many!!!! I'm living pay check to pay check, but my bills are always covered!!! Unless these "oh, it's automated - I'm totally helpless" bastards have any slight chance of stealing the little bit of cash I have! Ultimately, I know it's my fault for staying with them so long, it just takes so much time to move banks, I've been putting it off, I'd rather spend my limited free time with my 2yr old- but no longer. I left $25 in this schlock institution just to keep an account open and discovered they were taking $5 a month as a service fee. When I went to clear the account I found a balance of $0. They had taken the entire amount as service fees. Be very very careful at these institutions that used to be our advocate and have become our adversaries. read more

After being charged over $128 in UNJUST FEES by Coast Hills, I requested the fees be reversed as they occurred months AFTER I closed my account...or so I thought. It seems impossible to close an account at Coast Hills, I have been trying for months. Shelby from Coast Hills called me back saying the fees will not be returned to us. I asked Shelby repeatedly to close our accounts, as I have been requesting this since October 2015. When I returned from work today she left me a message asking if I wanted to close our accounts! If we don't get our accounts closed soon, we might end up owing Coast Hills money for stealing our money in the first place. She talked over me when I was speaking and was rude. I do not know what I need to do to have our accounts closed and ALL of our money returned to us. I have requested our accounts be closed for over four months now, expressed this in multiple phone calls and by E-mail. Why would anyone want to give their money away? Consider yourself warned, good people of San Luis Obispo! Oh, by the way HL, we are pretty savvy, just don't like being ripped off by corporate thieves! Have direct deposit. Received my check stub on Wednesday (payday) but they didn't release my money into my account until the following Monday. Got different excuses but all we're not what there agreement was when I opened my account. When I opened up my account they advised me the ease of direct deposit and talked me into it. The Manager even confirmed that if I would of brought my check into the branch on Payday the money would of been available immediately. If you enjoy receiving your pay on the day you earned it don't bank here. read more
