I've only tried the CrossFit classes here, but they also offer various martial arts such as Muay Thai and Brazilian Jujitsu. The facility is divided between a very large floor mat sparring area, a full sized fighting octagon, and a functional fitness area for CrossFit (pull up bars, barbell racks, jumping boxes, etc.). The men's "change room" consists of a small semi-closed off cluster of lockers in the main gym area. The women have an actual room. Being located in an industrial park, there is plenty for parking. The CrossFit classes at this location differ from the others I have tried insofar as they tend to be consistently focused on constant high rep, high intensity intuitive exercises (e.g. box jumps, kipping pull ups, push up pyramids, crunches) and a few barbell moves. This is in contrast to some other CrossFits where you can spend a significant portion of a class working on developing a particular "functional" movement like a headstand, barbell combos, or some kettle bell manoeuvre. If you're looking for an efficient calorie burning, stamina building workout class you can dive into without much of a learning curve, try this place.

Kids to grandmas and top athletes in between. Everyone has completely welcomed my son and encouraged him to stick with it. I'm excited to see my son progress and gain strength and stamina for his future in criminology. My son has taken advantage of their cross/cage fit classes in the morning. HORRIBLE treatment by staff today, NOT luxury service, AVOID…read more I had asked to be connected to the manager of the club during the phone call to Adress the situation privately but Raeann said over the phone he (manager?) was on vacation for a long time and refused. I wanted to address the horrible treatment i received today not only from Raeann, but from the front desk girl as well as the one that called me in to the office upon arrival. I signed up through the mind body app, and scheduled my yoga class through there. I got to the desk 10 mins before the class as that is what the class description said. I was then told to wait and have some other girl frantically tell me shes so rushed now to get me registered, which i thought was done already through the app. This meeting she all but blamed me and made me feel as though i was a burden to her, and that this was not how it was supposed to be. Again, nowhere does this say this when booking through mind body that there needs to be a tour and such prior to me scheduling anything. After class, i left, and checked if i had a phone number for the facility, i only had a text from Raeann, which i have attached here, again, no mention of a 1 hr needed for tour and processing etc. In her text, i will note however, in the berating phone call after, she did lie and say she had called so many times and explained over voicemail, which did not happen. I texted Raeann back as attached below, to which she berated me (in her calm, soft spoken voice as she continued to say, while talking down to me) talk over me, and say she didn't want me in her club when i asked to speak to a manager because her behaviour was an insane way to treat anyone, let alone a new member. She then back peddled and again, blamed me for having a bad day and was taking it out on her (when she called me to seemingly blame a new member with a valid concern that i calmly, privately tried to address ?) She lied saying she called multiple times, when she called once and texted me. She also lied about her manager being on vacation, as when i called the front desk, they said he would be in on Monday. Her attitude over the phone was horrible, her condescending way of speaking was uncalled for and her threats of telling everyone about me, and not letting anyone else speak to me, is absolutely insane. I would like to speak to anyone above her as soon as possible. Thanks. If this is how this place is run, DO NOT GO HERE.

The mats are soft and comfortable for the joints. I went to the fundamentals Jiu Jitsu class, and learned some details that helped my game. The class is strictly one hour long - 5 mins warm-up, 5 mins situational drilling, 30 min technique instruction, 17 min situational rolling, 3 min bowing out. The folks there are like most other BJJ academies, warm, welcoming, friendly, and happy to share techniques and exchange ideas. I went back home knowing that I made a few more friends in Calgary. Downtown gyms are really horrible. Just let me get that out first. I finally chose Anytime because they ARE NOT/DO NOT HAVE: Absurd prices, crowds, Iinitiation fee, activation fee, towel fee, pushy sales people. What do they have? 24 hr access, towel service, individual shower rooms, awesome trainers that know you by first name, yoga studio with video workouts, tvs, good looking people, and free parking. All downtown. Yes, it's true. Good amount of cardio equipment, and more weights than you can imagine. My gym buddies have also commented that they have more machines than most locations. The shower and bathrooms are also really new and clean, no gross tiles with the weird swampy smells, and rusty metal stuff. and because it's on 1st street, you can grab a bite just about anywhere along this street because you had a great workout and you deserve it! It's been sort of counter productive for me, but I assume I'm the only one with no willpower.

The staff literally know the name of everyone who comes in. The gym is quite small, there are no extras (hot tub, pool, running track, etc.), but they have all of the equipment I could ever need. Some of the cardio equipment is a bit old, but I think they are upgrading it soon. My most recent visit was on Tuesday evening for the Boot Camp class. I've been to a few other boot camp style classes before, some at bigger gyms, and some held by private trainers outdoors. The boot camp at Kensington Fitness was more expensive (for non-members it's $25 per class if you pre-buy 6 classes, or $30 per drop-in class) but worth the price if you are looking for personalized attention. There was only three of us that day, so it felt more like a group personal training session because the trainer was able to watch all of us and give us our own feedback. In one hour we worked through 5 stations, each with 3 sets of 3 activities. I had done a few of the basic activities before on my own, but most were modifications to basics that I will continue to incorporate into my future work outs. I haven't become a member yet because I get a free gym pass at the University. But I'm thinking of getting the 6-pass for the boot camp. Even just to go every couple of weeks and learn some new moves :)

The staff is particularly nice. They don't both you and tend to stay out of your way unless you need them and then they're as friendly as ever. The gym itself is relatively small but the amount of equipment in there is amazing. There is actually a designated space to do pylometrics and free weights which I greatly appreciate. Cardio machines, weight machines, accessories (ankle and arm weights, steps, mats, medicine balls, exercise balls, etc.) are all available. I have never had trouble with the gym being crowded or equipment being unavailable. Showers and change rooms are quite clean (hairdryers and small toiletries are available in the change rooms); lockers are available (bring your own lock); and the gym equipment is quite clean as well. They have a smoothie bar for your post-workout snacks and I've seen many clients stay and chat with staff for a few minutes before leaving. I haven't seen any pervy guys here (hurruh!) and clients are typically quite polite.
