You would not start your day by having ceviche for breakfast, but here (in theory) it is possible…read more Using fresh ingredients form other shops of the market, you can select fish or seafood as the base of your ceviche and the sauce out of 4 options. For those who are not into raw fish, pork ribs with either potatoes or sweet corn are a good choice. The taste is by far very good, and prices are quite fair, specially by considering the neighborhood where it is located. And on Saturdays, make sure to try the oysters, served with a special sauce. You order first and then wait for your order number to be called. So it is somehow a mix of grab and go and fast food restaurant with a small area for you to have your meal. It is always packed by lunch time on Saturdays, but if you want to have either a late lunch or an early dinner, I recommend going around 5:30 pm to enjoy the best of Comedoria Gonzales with no hurry and enough space to accommodate yourself in one of their tables.

Once you get past the 'mercadão' and get to the the place, its actually very practical, clean and bustling with customers, even on a nondescript Tuesday. They don't have table service, so you got to decide what you feel like eating/drinking - options range from several ceviches to peruvian sandwiches & drinks, line up at the counter (which is where they loose a star due to it being really slow), order & pay and wait for them to shout out your token number. The orders didnt take too long to get processed. They have a small tables around the place or if you're lucky (as we were), you can snag a couple of highchairs at the bar. The food is really, really good - I ordered the seafood ceviche marinated in 'suco de manga' and it was one of the best ceviches I have had in São Paulo along with a side of their potato fries with rosemary dipped in mayo. The food is served in disposable paper containers which make it easy to take and go also (if needed) but I really recommend sitting there. Prices (17/11) - The fish of the day ceviche costs R$ 17 and seafood ceviche costs R$ 20 - both have 4 marinade options. Comedoria Gonzales is very well locate behind Metro Brig. Faria Lima and one of those places where one visit isn't going to be enough. I have to return and try out more of their options.

I fully appreciated the blanket and heaters that were brought over as it was a chilly evening, yet we were still "indoors" but not. Service was impeccable, with every member of the staff ensuring our experience was top notch and food met our expectations. I chose the slowly roasted beef ribs rice and was not expecting savory goodness that arrived! The beef ribs melted in my mouth and the rice was so incredibly flavorful - I would order this over and over again! Of all the restaurants I've been to, Figueira Rubaiyat has by far the one of the most extensive wine list I've seen, featuring many different wines from around the world, including Brazil of course! There is also a gift shop that should not be missed because of the very unique items that are found here - and a place I'll need to visit next time I'm in the area again! The entire experience is one that should not be missed. Every detail and every bite was absolute perfection!

I was literally still dreaming about it the next day; the food was really that good. Another standout dish was the braised short rib with sticky rice, a Brazilian specialty that was mouthwateringly delicious, with the beef and rice combo melting in your mouth. The toppings and sides were excellent as well. This was at an upscale restaurant, and the bill came out to half of what we would normally pay in the states. Food like this would cost at least two to three hundred dollars in California! For the price we are paying and the quality we are receiving, this is absolutely outrageous. I'd really like to see São Paulo's state government clean up its act and do more for the city, because there's no reason it shouldn't be a top tourist destination. I'm not much of a foodie, so it's nice having friends who are. You can just trust their recommendations and go along for the ride!!
