I've been to A Figueira Rubaiyat many times over the years, including their opening day back in 2001. I recently dropped by for lunch and as always, had an exceptional experience. Their famed "baby beef" was amazingly tender and flavorful. All sides were delectable and their service is always top notch. While considered very expensive from a local perspective, A Figueira Rubaiyat offers great value for those coming from abroad and thinking in dollar terms. We paid roughly $75 per person (R$ 360 in local currency, no alcohol, no dessert, only water, bread service, one entrée, and one side). You can't go wrong with A Figueira Rubaiyat!
I had a mixed experience at this restaurant. The food was decent overall, around a 7/10, and the service was good--friendly, throughout the meal. One challenge was communication, as none of the staff seemed to speak a language other than Portuguese. While everyone was polite and tried to help, this could be difficult for international visitors. The drinks were unfortunately the weakest part of the experience. They took an exceptionally long time to arrive, and the quality and flavor were disappointing. On the positive side, the desserts were good; creative, original, and delicious. They were easily the highlight of the meal. What ultimately made the experience disappointing was the value for money. The bill came to nearly 3,000 BRL (about $600 USD) for two people, which felt extremely overpriced for what was delivered. At that price point, I would expect exceptional food, outstanding drinks, and a more seamless overall experience. While the service and desserts were good, the overall experience simply did not justify the cost. Unfortunately, I did not feel it was worth the price.
Very cool place to take clients or friends. There is a giant fig tree in the center and good music. Traditional South American meat restaurant - if you are not into meat, probably best to go elsewhere. If you are into meat, then this is your place. There is also an awesome gift shop that sells knives and other cool gifts to bring home.
The ambiance and view is spectacular. From the bar, washrooms and of course the magnificent tree and how the seating area embodies it. The service was good. The seafood platter was a tad salty for my personal taste, however, the platting was fantastic.

The Kobe short ribs were disappointing though as it was half inedible fat than quality meat, also one of the priciest items on the menu. Wine selection was excellent, dessert was decedent but after all that, my favorite was the pao de queijo! Lovely spot, highly recommend.
Everything was amazing. Steaks were delicious. I had ojo de bife or rib eye. Cooked to perfection and amazing taste. Had various sides. Liked the batata soufle. These are puffed potato chips. Service was very attentive and on top of anything we needed. Atmosphere was very unique eating under an enormous tree. It was very loud so conversations required speaking loudly.

The steak is high quality and the octopus is tender with great flavor. The rib appetizer as well as the salmon and beef carpaccio was great as well.
This is an amazing restaurant. Service, atmosphere, menu, location, food & wine all 5 star. I asked the hotel front desk where they would recommend and they said Figueira. It was epic. Check out the pics I snapped. No need to rehash all the yelpers who have already said all that needs to be said about the 200 year old massive fig tree in the middle of the restaurant and the amazing food and service. This restaurant is legit world class. Memorable.... a rare dining experience.
The dining room was spectacular with a massive sprawling tree growing out of the roof. The staff were spectacularly attentive and friendly. When they brought out a complimentary bread basket and I rejected it because my party was late, they were gracious and served it later when they arrived. The Paella was spot on. Decadent with rich seafood stock and copious amounts of seafood proteins. Pricey, but well crafted. Not that I will repeat unless I needed a showy venue to impress my guests. Great place to see and be seen. A lot of guests arriving obviously recognized each other and spent some time hanging out.
Amazing place! Food, drinks, location, ambiance! The tree, FIGUEIRA RUBAIYAT, is 150 years old, the restaurant was built around it! It's an environmental heritage, it's definitely a majestic tree! Saturday is feijoada day, which is a typical Brazilian food with black bean and all kinds of pork meat! The side dishes are unbelievable! This is a must see! Service is not the best at all, yet the experience is so wonderful That I will keep the 5stars. When I'm São Paulo don't miss this spot! One more think the creme brûlée is one of the best I have tried in my life! EPIC!
Excellent food and ambiance! Went to this restaurant after a long day of work in SP and we had an amazing dinner and a great time. The ambiance is second to none - - - beautiful and modern feeling with a real gigantic figueira tree in the middle of the dining area. But the food is the real amazing experience at this place - - - the top steak options you can get in São Paulo, and drink options are terrific as well. We had an amazing night! Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.
The place is beautiful! Stunning, truly. The food is good, but the service was lacking. I came in at 5:30pm, a bit very busy time, with the dining area less than half full. It took 20 minutes for my drink to come, which was just the waiter pouring vermouth onto an ice cube. From when I ordered, it took an hour for my entree to come. I'm not sure if they forgot my order or what happened, but they didn't offer any recompense (maybe a language issue?) I have heard their service was good by colleagues, maybe I just wasn't lucky
I have been waiting to get a restaurant here for ages and was not disappointed! When my colleague and I came in for dinner, we were immediately taken in by the indoor-outdoor feeling, with soft evening light streaming in through the glass rooftop. I LOVE the fig tree in the center of the restaurant, which sets it apart (among other things that are highlights). Service was extremely attentive throughout the evening, from start to finish. The staff were good about quickly providing an English menu for my colleague, which she appreciated. We came in for an early dinner and were floored when our food was brought out in a flash! But it was hot, fresh, and delicious, so no complaints there. They have an excellent wine selection, with a handful of reds by the glass and extensive regional list, including ports, sherries, and dessert wines. I was particularly a fan of the Bordon Crianza. We started with the chips with roast beef carpaccio, which were excellent. I remember having a similar dish at Maní and loved seeing a similar preparation here. The saltiness of the chips alongside the lightly cooked beef was fantastic. The baby lamb, one of various meat options, was cooked perfectly and was a delight to the palate. The potatoes were like little clouds filled with gooeyness. All in all, I loved it here and will probably came back soon!
Consistently good Argentine steakhouse where you choose an individual cut of steak rather than an all you can eat churrascaria. Same owner/company as Cabana Las Lilas from Buenos Aires. I ordered the ribeye that was delicious, but you have to order it medium/ao ponto, as they undercook the meat in Brazil. Accompanied the steak with mashed potatoes and a glass of Catena Malbec. With tip came to $75US--worth it. Same meal in USA would easily be $125. Right around the corner from the Fasano Hotel where I stayed and very nice ambience--cool historic tree as you enter the premises along with a nice bar area and kitchen where you can view them preparing and cooking the steaks. read more

This was by far one of the best restaurants and steakhouses I've been to in a long time. I absolutely loved the tomahawk steak we had--it was marbled to perfection, deep-seared and rendered just right, and unbelievably delicious. I was literally still dreaming about it the next day; the food was really that good. Another standout dish was the braised short rib with sticky rice, a Brazilian specialty that was mouthwateringly delicious, with the beef and rice combo melting in your mouth. The toppings and sides were excellent as well. This was at an upscale restaurant, and the bill came out to half of what we would normally pay in the states. Food like this would cost at least two to three hundred dollars in California! For the price we are paying and the quality we are receiving, this is absolutely outrageous. I'd really like to see São Paulo's state government clean up its act and do more for the city, because there's no reason it shouldn't be a top tourist destination. I'm not much of a foodie, so it's nice having friends who are. You can just trust their recommendations and go along for the ride!! read more

I spent six days in Brazil and did not have to pay one single meal. Yep. This was Wednesday night dinner. My colleague took me here because it was supposed to be good. We had to wait for twenty minutes which means in time for me to kill a quarter glass of their best caipirinha. Sitting under the big, I mean giant fig tree, I pondered the age old question - Is Brazilian steak better than Argentinian's without realizing this is an Argentinian restaurant - or at least by Yelp's classification. I didn't see the menu because the man at the table orders a meal for us. Try the beef, it's really good. Apparently I had local brahman beef with potato soufflé with farofa. First of all. Holy cow, the beef was the best I have ever had, way better than Peter Luger's. Hmm... I totally get why Americans love Brazil. Beef is better than America! Secondly.. farofa is delish. Totally knocked my socks off tasty. From Epicurious "Farofa is the term for a side dish using toasted farinha de mandioca--in English, manioc flour, which is a dried flour similar in looks and texture to breadcrumbs, made from yucca. The making of farofa as a dish couldn't be easier. It is plain manioc flour toasted in butter. A few of the classic farofa dishes include eggs and scallions, eggs and bacon, banana, bellpepper." So never mind, it's great but I don't think I'll be making that again. I'll just keep on going down to Brazil to eat that with my steak. Side dishes was great as well. Though my main focus was the steak. I heard that it's pricy. I have zero idea how bad it was, because I didn't see the check. My other favorite part was the way to get here, we passed so many super fancy houses. The restaurant felt very airy. That huge fig tree made a difference. Highly recommend those who are into steak. read more

It has always been one of my favorites in São Paulo. The setting with a 200-yr old Fig tree is unique and very homie! I have visited many times before the Pandemic, and I loved to just order from the Appetizer menu! They were all wonderful. However, upon return after 20 months since March 2020, the menu must have changed a bit. A few of my favorite appetizers are no longer available! Nonetheless it still remains as one of my favorites! Here were a few of the dishes I have enjoyed over the years! read more

This is probably top 25 restaurants in the world for me. Just by what the tree does for the scene is simply amazing. The foot is spectacular as well, love the attention to the service and quality of food. Everything is really well thought out and I have been coming to this restaurant every time I visit São Paulo since 2018. read more

This was my second time at Figueira Rubaiyat. If you're looking for a place with ATMOSPHERE, look no further. You will be sitting under a huge, 200-year-old fig tree (no longer producing figs) in the middle of Sao Paulo. Right near my hotel in the Jardim area, it is in a safe location that I felt comfortable walking around with others. Last time, we ordered an assortment of food. All of the cheese. All of the bread. All of the food babies. This time, we still ordered Pao de Queijo (CHEESE BREAD). After visiting Sao Paulo twice and Rio once, I have to say this place has THE BEST cheese bread in Brazil (from my experience so far!). The cheese is literally a part of the dough - not sure how they do it. This restaurant's cheese bread is more buttery than others I've had which is what sets it apart. For my dinner, I ordered the chicken dish. The chicken was pretty good. I ordered creamed corn for my side and this was also THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD. The rest of my group agreed as well. I also tried the Kiwi Caipirinha. If you're a fruit lover, try one of their fruity Caipirinhas. Warning: it will be strong! Just give it a few mixes and it is delish! For Americans who don't like to have dinner as late as Brazilians, you may not have to wait. I went on a Sunday and it was not busy at all. It seems like a lot of restaurants are slow for dinner on Sundays and Mondays (similar to the U.S.). read more
The restaurant with the fig tree is the restaurant you might hear of before your arrival in São Paulo. It's also the restaurant your hotel concierge might recommend. These two things are no coincidence and both were true in my case. Before arriving I'd read that a couvert (appetizer) platter would arrive on my table. This is something I will not have ordered but will be expected to pay for. I had no problem with such a concept but when that luscious platter was cleared and a duplicate platter arrived my concern began to grow. Would I now have to pay for a second platter? As I made my way through the second couvert plate I tried to get an answer to that question but the language barrier made that impossible. It wasn't until the third couvert platter was laid on my table that I knew for certain: I MUST know whether I'm paying for each platter individually. Somehow, some way, I eventually obtained a satisfactory answer to that question and my son and I dug into platter #3 with gusto. You pay only once for the couvert - a flat per person charge of R$27 per person (under $10 US apiece) - and can eat as much of it as you want. I like this couvert thing. The couvert was just the start of a beautiful experience. There's that gorgeous fig tree with its sprawling limbs providing a lovely ambiance, the glow of low lighting bathing everything in golden hues, and then there's the fabulous food and wine. The hotel concierge had confided that she liked their seafood, despite it being an Argentinian restaurant known for its meats. That enticed me to order a post-couvert starter of fresh grilled Portuguese sardines (R$49) and my son to opt for an Amazon Pirarucu (a Brazilian Sweet Water fish, R$120). There was nothing not to enjoy there but I crushed hardest on my Brangus Breed Ribeye with Souffle Potatoes (R$118). Two fabulous sauces, a chimichurri and a red pepper sauce, accompanied the beef. I don't often order a big piece of meat but I was smart to do so here. It was perfect. For the best possible experience at Figueira Rubaiyat I'd recommend you sit beneath the tree itself (it's a very big restaurant), enjoy the couvert for all its worth, order up a lovely piece of meat, and accompany the whole thing with some fine Argentinian wine. They feature "Tropical Breed" Kobe Beef but I had zero complaints about their less expensive Brangus Breed beef. Your concierge really does want you to be satisfied and I doubt your experience here will be anything but. (For the BRL challenged, this dinner for two with a bottle of Argentinian wine, tax, and tip ran R$489 which translated to $130.16; expensive for Brazil but completely reasonable relative to the prices of steak at purveyors in the US). read more

Lots of hipe about this place! Yes, it was good. I got mix messages in regards to needing a reservation. My opinion, call before you go (ask the concierge to make the call for you). This HUGE AMAZING FIG TREE is exactly eight long blocks from the hotel I was staying. I got an 8:30pm reservation and it felt perfectly safe to walk there on a Monday night. I got a reservation for a table 20 minutes before I arrived. This place was busy, busy, busy. They have a lot of big tables. I didn't expect it to be as busy as it was, given it was Monday night. They sat me on a small table against the wall, so I had a perfect view to the restaurant. And an amazing view of the fig tree. Pretty Cool! To my pleasant surprise, shortly after I sat a couvert plate was brought. It was perfect (good and light) to snack on while waiting to order and then waiting to get my food. A small plate with mini rolls of cheese bread and some other bread were warm and inviting. I ordered Pupunha palm heart baked in wood-burning oven with fresh curd and rocket for a starter. It was truly good as I was told it was going to be. I was glad I ordered this. For my entre... Levissimo (ribeye heart, marinated in chimichurri with portabello mushrooms and grilled chuncky and meaty tomatoes was served medium and it was good as expected. Two sauces: chimichuri and hot sauce were brought to the table for options. At my server's suggestion, I paired my meat with an argentinian red wine: Catena Malbec 2013. It was a good suggestion. A rosemary warm pretzel shaped bread was displayed on the table on a wooden pedastal to be eaten with butter. At first, I didn't even know it was a real piece of bread. Then I came to find out that it was bread for me to eat - when the server cleared out the table. I asked him - if it was real bread. He smile and asked me if I would like to try it, because it was good. He brought to me a new piece of bread and I have to say... I can't believe I almost missed out on this. Because the bread was savory and aromatic. Very good. I wanted to try dessert, but there was just no way I could. The meat entre was a very good size, so was the starter and so was the couvert plate. LOL! I did however order an ESPRESSO AMENO (medium strong), which was served with very cute petite cookies, petite madelines, petitie macaron, petite chocolate truffles,, petite dried fruit deeped in chocolate, etc. Beautifully presented on a stand. The end the evening, I was offered complimentary cachaca. They gave me two options to try: 1) con miel and 2) Enveguesida (aged). This is strong stuff. So, have just a little. All in all - I was there for 2 hours and I had a delightful time. It was a nice walk back to the hotel. I only wished the wifii had not been broken. As an out-of-town person, I have to say that wiffi at your dinner place is important. read more

Great ambience & decor. Clean environment. Delicious food, all dishes ordered were amazing. Sangria wasn't on the sweet side which is a breath of fresh air. Try the mix seafood dish with açafrão risotto - DELICIOUS! I'd recommend and will return. read more
