Was in the area and was looking for a local coffee shop to try. Stumbled across this location nearby and based on the reviews decided to try it out. The atmosphere is welcoming with various seating options from traditional tables and chairs to couches and high tables. In town for the holidays and visited Coffea for the second time. They have a good system for getting coffee out quick. It's a pretty simple menu, and the workers have been kind. We ordered 3 coffees and 3 sandwiches. Our coffees were dropped off together and then 2/3 sandwiches and mine was unfortunately forgotten. I mentioned to the barista and she gave me a free coffee card for the future. My wife and her father were done with their sandwiches by the time I got mine. The front side of the coffee shop feels a little packed and busy, while the back half feels bare and quiet. It feels a bit backwards to me to have lots of standing room away from where people are yelling out orders and customers wait. I went with a hot chai latte with caramel, and it was phenomenal. Great chai, and for sure on the sweet end. It came out very quick! I ordered a chorizo and egg sandwich. It was delicious, although I will order extra chipotle aioli next time! read more

Beautiful place that is always busy. Friendly and helpful staff that always greet you with a smile on their faces. The pastries are large and normally delicious although sometimes they can be a bit dry. The drinks are excellent, especially the teas; the coffee drinks do seem to vary a little depending on which barista is making them. They have a lot of plants in the shop which makes for a very pleasant atmosphere. Not necessarily a place I would come to to spend several hours working or studying but it is a great place to meet with friends for coffee and snack. read more

Had a gas fireplace in the middle with some seating and lots of natural lighting if you plan to hang out with a friend or get some work done. We got espresso & coffee one morning, then on another afternoon we got espresso milkshakes and "scotcharoo's" which were chocolate on the bottom and rice crispie treat on top with what seemed to be melted marshmallow and butterscotch chips. I do not normally stop at Coffea as it is out of the way, however I had received a complimentary drink card inside a Christmas card from a local business this year. The service in the drive thru was very prompt and employee was cheerful. I decided to try a vanilla latte in the small size as to not over do it with the free drink. I was surprised to see how small their small actually is. Not even enough to kick my morning into gear. On top if having such a small drink, it was served very lukewarm and wasn't the great drink I was hoping it would be. Could barely pick up any vanilla flavor and the coffee taste was very mild and just in the after taste. As it shoulf be made with espresso brew, it should have a much bolder taste. Menu states that the drink is made using raw sugar but I did not taste any sweetness from sugar as the drink was more milk flavored than anything. Overall pretry disappointing, but thankfully this visit was free. A drink this size and quality should not be priced at $4.35 (pre-tax price). read more

Coffea is the quintessential overpriced coffee shop, and I'm from Washington State, so feel free to go ahead and assume I'm better than you at judging all things artisan and hipster. Coffea should be celebrated for creating a vision and beating the odds to bring it into fruition. Frankly, creating a truly snobby coffee shop in South Dakota is a monumental challenge. The challenge is not creating the decor - the raw neo-industrial crossover look can be bought for a price. The stained concrete floors, suspended packing crates and artfully created niches for reading and highly intellectual conversation are not unique to this establishment. Neither is the challenge creating a superior coffee. With enough money, anyone can invest in the massive, over-engineered machines that take coffee from a mere beverage to a sacred liquid, requiring spiritual contemplation and appreciation. Granted, it would be difficult to differentiate normal good coffee from the Holy Black Ointment Coffea serves in a blind test, but loving Coffea isn't about perceptible differences, it's about faith. And Coffea wants your love, faith and devotion in its Sacred Merciful Grace to be blind - not double-blind tested. What Coffea has done to set them apart does not consist of wood or stone, liquid or metal, but consists of flesh and blood. The first step of any successful religion is to convert true believers, acolytes full of zeal to maintain the purity of the faith, eliminate apostasy and proselytize to the heathen. Coffea has found its apostles in its employees - Coffea's Truest Believers. In the monastic tradition, the men are dressed identically. Each thin and scrawny, their hair is trimmed closely along the sides of their head, but kept long and combed on top, and each is allowed a different facial hair style depending on their position in the priesthood. This conformity keeps each man from standing apart from the rest, and reminds them that they are all equally inferior to the Holy Liquid they serve, but superior to the lay-people who come to pay their devotions to the Glorious Libation. I saw one high priest, who was asked by an ignorant layperson to commit sin by defiling his raw sugar latte with cinnamon. This priest nobly refused, castigating the layperson for his ignorance and reminding him that the way of Our Roasted Lord is a path laid out by the artisanal choices of the priesthood and not in the wanton and willy-nilly application of spice. This place has won awards and has had great reviews. I was very happy to try it. I walked in and ordered. The good: -young vibrant staff. Very courteous and quick to greet me -the taste of the coffee was unique: nutty, with a sweet aftertaste-hint of cinnamon -their equipment appears topnotch, not your standard espresso maker at Starbucks, but clearly with bean grinder and pressurizer that's installed under the counter The ok-clearly handmade pastries The not so good: I love patronizing artisan shops. I've down cuppings of pour over beans at multiple shops around the country and truly appreciate how you can change the time and notes of a cup of coffee via use if beans, pressure and temp. Given the prices charges by this shop, there really should be more sophistication offered to the customer regarding how their coffee is prepared. Eg: for a homemade cinnamon re and a 12 oz coffee, I paid $11 including a tip! I hate starbucks as they overroast their beans, but even with them, I would get more value. I don't mind paying a premium if I get the value of my money: ie allow me to choose the type of beans used (they clearly offer different types). Allow me to describe how I want my coffee-mellow, nutty, extra hot to bring out the different tastes. If you're offering food, mAke serving sizes a little bigger (nearly $4 for a small cinnamon roll that is the size of a generic 12 pack from the grocery store). I get it, you're busy. But if you're going to charge that much for something with a cost basis that's easily 15-20% retail (including labor), then give the customer something equivalent. I would love to try them again and see if they can up there game to match the potential of what they have equipment wise and quality wise. read more

This is a great coffee shop. They have limited food selections, but it's what you expect from a proper coffee shop (cones and cookies.) There is a wine store connected, so if you are in the mood of some libations, there is that possibility too. The coffee is delicious and there is plenty or room to spread out. the internet is fast and easy to connect to. In the late afternoon, there were still plenty of open tables. First off, I am a fan and customer of Coffea. However, my visit on 6-8-24 was far less than stellar. I ordered a 16oz quad shot latte, hot, no added flavors. The foam looked a mess and the drink tasted bitter and burnt. I waited a while to see if it would mellow, but it didn't. So I went back to return it for a better one about an hour later, after only taking a few sips. It really was undrinkable. The young woman at the drive thru was the same who'd helped me earlier. I told her my experience. She responded by saying that it could be that because it was a quad shot that just strong, which is a fair point. But I told her that I used to own a specialty coffee shop like Coffea in another state and understand the difference between a strong cup and a bitter one. This one was just not a well-extracted espresso. As a barista, myself, I understand the difference. But it's like she wasn't listening, and continued to suggest other ways to make the drink more palatable, like adding a sweetener. I repeated again what I'd said before, but she was still resisting. Not good customer service. Not at all. She finally relented and said she would make a new drink for me, sounding a bit superior and doubtful that I knew what I was talking about. When she brought the second one, I looked at the foam and it was perfect. I tasted it, and it was lovely... and up to Coffea's standards. I thanked her and drove away. We stopped on our way to South Dakota. Looked for a coffee shop and are so glad we stopped here! The young lady at the drive up window was friendly and knowledgeable about their offerings. We drove away with two lattes, a cinnamon roll, and a wild berry muffin. I took off one star for the pastries. The muffin was tasty, but dry. The cinnamon roll was ok. Not bad , just not amazing.
