Seriously, like stepping back in time to the days where you could go to your local steakhouse for a…read morephenomenal meal, friendly service, and a cozy home like atmosphere. Well, look no further. This no-frills steakhouse specializes in dry aged beef, is James Beard award winning, has great cocktails, and still serves you a relish tray while you wait for your meal. For those of you under the age of 35, a relish tray, often consisted of carrots, celery, pickles, and cubed cheddar cheese like this one. They also will bring you some bread and butter if you would like. In my opinion, you should definitely opt for the tenderloin, but I'm not sure there is a bad steak option on the menu. They also have seafood and even sandwich sandwiches including a burger so there's something for everyone! It's family friendly and although the decor will remind you of your grandma's house, no grandparent I have ever met could put out steaks like this. Visit the ice cream capital of the world and make sure to save room for a steak!

As I filled up we happened to see the signs near the road and the signs on the building of the old station building boasting of brisket, ribs, pulled pork and more. About that same time a fella wearing overalls stepped out the front door of the shop looked at us as we were refueling our truck and waved at us being friendly. Thinking that it was lunch time and that we were getting hungry that friendly wave sealed the deal. After we refueled the truck we pulled over next door and went inside where we met "Cowboy" our cashier and cook and was immediately welcomed in. After looking at the menu wall and asking our questions we settled on a BBQ Burrito and a Train Wreck grilled sandwich with sides. (next time I'm trying the pork nachos!) When the food came out Cowboy brought us both their original bbq sauce as well as their special Habanero Mango sauce of the week. Let me tell you, this was some of the best BBQ I've had in ages and being from Des Moines there are plenty of places in the metro to choose from but none compared to this little shop. This food was AMAZING. I'm surprised the location didn't have standing room only because if this place was better known about there wouldn't be an empty seat in the house! This is like Correctionville's greatest best kept secret! You've got to try this! The only bad thing about this experience was the realization that Des Moines where I live is nearly three hours away! You've got to try this food!

Amazing. The tenderloin was massive. And the broccoli cheese soup was a star. Tried the peach pie as well which I thoroughly enjoyed. I fully expected the place to be packed as it appears to be pretty much the only show in town as far as a sit down restaurant. There was a please wait to be seated sign there as we walked in. We were greeted right away and seated in minutes. It's old school wood tables and chairs and I think there was a counter available. Ordering is done at the tables as well as settline your bill up with your server. Surprisingly the speed of service continued throughout the visit. After drinks we ordered the rodeo burger and fries, a tenderloin with chili cheese fries, and the garlic cheeseballs. The cheeseballs came with marinara and ranch. Fresh, hot, and fantastic! I've eaten a lot of tenderloins. Many that have been highlighted as Iowa Tenderloin Trail winners or participants... This is one of the better tenderloins I've had in the state! Obviously hand made, breaded, and fried. Not too thick and not too thin. Drained properly. Served with the essential condiments including the holy trinity (onions, dill pickles, and mustard). The gf liked her burger. It could have used more of the featured ranch and bbq sauce. The fries... Neither of us cared for them. Obviously hand made, but almost too thin and too greasy. We'd both opt for a different side next time. To each our own though. Almost every small town along this stretch of I-80 has a pub & grill. The menus vary a little, but are very similar in a lot of aspects. The quality of service and the cooks make the biggest differences. The Chuckwagon hit five stars in some aspects of both. Work on those fries and the flavor of the chili (horribly bland) and this review would have been five stars. I'm going to emphasize this again. Truly one of the best tenderloins I've had in the state! Keep doing what you are doing!
