He was instrumental in the battle of San Jacinto and liberation of Texas. After a troubled period post civil war,Sherman's fortunes were built on cotton and wheat. In 1885 Dunn and Bradstreet listed Sherman as the financial center of Texas Sherman's oldest industry Washington Iron works, established in 1876 is still operating today . Ironically north Texas will be ushered into the future with the tremendous tech growth poised to explode. At this writing though,Sherman still seems like the small Texas city it has always been.

It feels like you're in a covered wagon about 40% of the time even though I was riding in a Lincoln Navigator. Jessie James once lived here and after he left, they paved the streets. Pretty sure they haven't been updated since. Other than that, it's a great town.

Had to call two times both times we were having a problem with her mail both times we were treated with respect and everyone was so kind but better yet problems was handled fast and we received the packages . I should add the problem was not the post office , one was the apartment did not have mail boxes and the other one was our fault but they went above their duties ! I told the worker that and they sold me a $35 scale. my wife has a $3.00 scale that does exactly what I need. On the 14th I went to return the scale and was told by the same worker he did not know how to do that and to come back and talk to the post master on Monday which I did. At the same worker station he told me to wait while he talk the the lady in charge. He came back and told me the receipt said not returns due to covid. That is bs the receipt states no refunds on stamps and postage. I told them that was wrong and asked to speak to the post mater. the same one he just spoke to and was told I could not. If it was my money I would not give a hoot, but this is for the DAV to work for the veterans and I hate to see arrogance on the part of government employees against a veterans organization. Everyone is nice…read more And LOUD. The employees don't even follow the 'quiet area' signs. I asked for a private study room. They are currently closed at this time. (Not their fault) But they are competing for the loudest library award, for sure. I asked him to please keep down. He said 'Oh sure!' In a booming voice . He is sweet, but maybe doesn't get it? When you have 5 people on computers and two on laptops maybe... just maybe they are doing something very important. I mean, I don't know. I'm just a patron. Continue on... After my three previous lackluster library experiences in Texas...I'll admit...I did not have high…read morehopes for this library. But goodness, I was surprised! The clerks were friendly, helpful and informative...none of that snooty "can't bother to talk to you" attitude here. I was quickly assisted in getting a library card and the nice man gave me a tour of the facility. As homeschoolers, we utilize the public library system quite a bit. I was so happy to see that this county has an online system that let's you request books from other branches. JOY JOY JOY....the angels were singing in my head. What is such a standard library service in California is hard to find here in Texas. But the Grayson County Library System kicks butt and they get it done! So thank you Denison Library for being such a great place for my family to enjoy.
