I called because my indoor/outdoor cat came home with half of the back of his head missing; wanted…read morethem to look at his wound and clean it out and make sure he is okay. They flat out refused because they said we hadn't been customers for over 3 years and their policy is that they're not seeing new patients. Interestingly, I verified that the last time we went down there was for my dog, Princess. The receptionist said yes. Our AKC paperwork shows a purchase date of August 2, 2023. I have pictures of my son in the lobby of their office with our dog on August 25, 2023. Today is March 4, 2025. Unless there's a strange glitch in the matrix, that's less than 2 years since we've been there. Nonetheless, they refused to see my cat. I have been using them for my animals since 2003. They neutered my bunny. They saw my parent's animals. They have been the "go to" for all of our pets. I don't know what has changed with these people - the management - the doctor? Perhaps they've forgotten they are a COMMUNITY vet and should be concerned about the wellbeing of all animals... especially those in town who've supported them throughout the years. One wound management appointment isn't asking them to take on a high maintenance pet with a multitude of appointments. It's revenue for them, without having to add a significant amount to their case load. Awful management. Awful policies. Awful math.

After misdiagnosis at my clinic for 20 years (new vet), Williamstown Animal Hospital welcomed my…read moresenior dog with open arms. He was due to get his teeth cleaned and we received a call within an hour of dropping him off that he was no longer a candidate for the procedure. He was diagnosed with lymphoma and they could not have been kinder or more accommodating. Cleaning is typically $550-900. They could have cleaned his teeth and made a substantial amount of money but instead they prioritized our furbaby & his family. We have seen both vets over the course of this horrible disease & I have no doubt he received the best treatment possible. Dr Essig has a tremendous talent for delivering unpleasant news in the most calming demeanor. Dr Holter always made me feel better than before I got there. Both are exceptionally knowledgeable & compassionate. Williamstown Animal Hospital offers a small town feel with the resources of a big city. Cancer sucks yet they made it the best experience possible. They even offer cremation.

What a poor excuse for a pet hospital. Called to get my dog in due to him having a open wound on…read morehis neck that is bleeding. Was told they didn't have any openings till late the next day. They also stated that if I was that worried about this wound, that I should take him somewhere else because they couldn't see him! Seriously! I get that appointments fill up fast and all, but you would think in a case like this they could have the decency to fit him in as we have been going here for over 2 years now, but I guess that means nothing to this vet clinic. They have definately lost my business and I will make sure to pass this on to everyone I know! Absolutely pathetic!!!

This vet over anesthetized my chinchilla for a simple tooth rasp, the staff sent him home with me…read moreeven after I pointed out he was not awake from anesthesia, they told me it was normal for him to be groggy, the vet had not checked him before I took him home. An hour and a half car ride in a winter storm, I get home and he is still non responsive, I call the clinic they told me to turn him side to side and stimulate him, I did this for an hour and 45 minutes until he wretched and took his last breath in my lap. I called multiple times and finally got a call from the vet who's explanation was it was common practice to send them home "groggy" and he may have been over sensitive to the anesthesia or had underlying disease (he was not sick, just not eating due to overgrown teeth). They refused to compensate me for the bill, so I just paid them $300 to kill my pet, that was sent home to die on me which made me hysterical with guilt and grief. If you love your pet, Do not use this vet, incompetent death dealers! If I could give negative stars I would but this app won't let me leave review without giving a star.

DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE!! They misdiagnosed my cat and have been prescribing dog meds for my cat…read morethis whole time. I have given this place so much money for them to waste my time. I have been giving my cat ear drops for months and it was the wrong medication. Waste of my time and my money...not to mention I am a college student with no money who just wants to help my cat. And I know other people who have had similar experiences with this place.

Marshall and his crew were a heartbreaking disappointment. After weeks of discussing the decision…read moreto have our dog put down, we finally decided that it was time. The next day we called to schedule an appointment with Athens Veterinary Clinic. We called as soon as they opened at 9am and asked some questions. The woman that answered the phone said their schedule was completely full that day but if we'd like, they could do an emergency procedure after hours for an additional $100. I told her we would like to do that and asked if we could set it up for 4:30. She said yes. We then went about the rest of our day coming to terms with the decision we were about to make. We took her on some walks, cooked her a steak for her last meal and made sure that her last day with us was a good one. At 4:05pm the vet office called and asked us if we were still coming in. They told us that we had the time wrong and they close at 4pm and they weren't sure why we would think it was for 4:30. I had appointments all day until 4:30 and never would've scheduled for 4 because I knew we couldn't make it in time. We went back and forth for a while. How rude she was, the heartlessness in what she said, and the tone in which she said it was mind blowing. And it ended with, "we're wrapping up with our last patient in 5 minutes so you need to be here by then." I said "I won't be rushed in to killing my dog. We'll be there at 4:30 like we scheduled or you're cancelling on us. She said, "then we're cancelling." I can't express what we felt at that time. Coming to the realization that all the emotions that we had gone through for the previous 24 hours was all for nothing. And then realizing we would have to go through it all over again once we rescheduled. The next day I called the clinic to talk to Marshall. The woman that answered the phone told me that Marshall said he would not be talking to me and we were no longer allowed back as patients because of my behavior and because I didn't show up for a scheduled appointment. Athens Vet scheduled this appointment wrong, blamed me for it, cancelled on us as we were putting our dog in to the car and then kicked my family out as patients. We now had to find a vet that could do this procedure for us that had never seen our dog as a patient before. And after having made the difficult decision to say goodbye to a member of the family, I have a new found disgust for Marshall and his team. They understand the emotions behind a decision like this and they didn't care one bit. They were just mad that it inconvenienced them and they took it out on us during this time of grief. I actually spoke with Marshall directly a few days later to try to express our feelings and get his perspective on the situation. He repeatedly said, "I'm sorry you feel that way but we didn't do anything wrong." I will never recommend this clinic to anyone.
