If ever approached by an insurance agent offering to serve as your "college advisor," in any capacity, you would be well advised to run as fast as you can in the opposite direction. That's because the agent is motivated overwhelmingly by commission earnings, as opposed to your best interests. If you have any doubt about that, just search online for "insurance agents college funding" or similar phrase, which will point you to articles like this one, in Money magazine: https://money.com/college-aid-dont-take-the-bait/ (which profiles the group that Ron Adams joined). Ron Adams could be described as highly intelligent, with many talents. One of those, acting (his major hobby, judging from what he displayed around his office), enabled him to be quite effective at pretending to have the interests of others at heart when in fact he did not. Ron could also be fairly described as an ultra-narcissistic egomaniac and, alas, shamelessly unethical. He demonstrated no qualms whatsoever about breaking an agreement, as long as he thought he could get away with it. Large, physically imposing people are sometimes "gentle giants." Sometimes they are bullies. In my interaction with Ron, his behavior definitely put him in the second category. The book (more of a pamphlet) Ron claims on the profile here (in the "about the business" section) to have authored is actually a PLR (private label rights) publication prepared by a hustler named Brian Kay (described in the Money magazine article linked to above), who for a fee allows his members to claim authorship, with their name on the cover. Granted, by all appearances, Ron made a good bit of money. And he reveled in that material success. But he built his professional legacy leveraging false piety and pretense, while stepping ruthlessly on others when he thought it served his own selfish purposes. Be careful not to waste your time with this shady clown if you are looking for a college planner. I attended one of his seminars In January 2019. During his presentation he did provide basic information on what to look out for when selecting and applying to a college. He indicated his company could provide various types of support including career and college selection services, college essay writing support, detailed scholarship information, acceptance info for specific colleges, finance strategies, and more. At the end of the session I signed up for one of the free follow up 90-minute meetings with Ron to learn more about these services. When I arrived at his office, he immediately indicated that we could not meet because my wife was not present and proceeded to very rudely walk me out of his office. It was confusing to me on why my wife would need to be present to review the offerings of his company. It seemed odd on how adamant he was regarding this, indicating that it was a question of "ethics" more than once. I tried one last time to explain to him that I had driven an hour to get there and my intent was to discuss his company college planning offerings in detail. My wife not being present should not have been a showstopper for this type of discussion. He disagreed and shooed my out the door. Apparently, Ron had an ulterior motive for this follow-up meeting which I was unaware of. As I drove away from his dingy storefront office, it occurred to me why he wanted my wife to be present. I recalled reading Ron also sells life insurance and . then it became obvious. Ron does not pedal college support services. This is just a front. Ron wants to sell you on restructuring your investments into a life insurance policy provided by him with the guise of putting you in a better position when applying for college financial support. He is not interested in providing any college planning services, at least not until you have committed to a financial "re-positioning" of your assets which no doubt will benefit him. Be aware of this before engaging with this jerk or you will end up wasting your time as I did. read more

I'm a bit suspicious of the other reviews on this page, a bit too good to be true for the service received. This business seems to be a branch of College Planning Network which has terrible reviews. The initial pitch is that they will help your child fill out the FAFSA and get all sorts of scholarships. They don't really end up doing much of anything besides charging you $2000 and pretending like they are providing you assistance. The Fafsa is really easy to fill out on your own, and the scholarships they have "access" to are no different than what is available to the general public. The end pitch is they try to sell you an annuity life insurance policy to get help to pay for college. Which doesn't make any sense at all. The money back guarantee was a total hoax as well. I tried to get my money back and was given the run around. Lesson learned. read more

Probably the worst financial advice I have ever been given. Basically, high income couples are encouraged (really, it's the only choice given) to buy an annuity life insurance policy that will hopefully reduce your EFC with the hope of getting more financial aid. To fund the annuity we were asked to come up with 130k the first year and then 30k a year for the next 14 years. That would have required a home equity loan and/or dumping our mutual funds to come up with the 130k and then allocating 30k per year for the next 14 years.......our 3 kids would be graduated from college in year 8 of this 15 year financial commitment. Worst case scenario, maybe 1, 2 or 3 of our kids decide that college isn't for them and drop out.......you are still on the hook for the length of your annuity contract. The annuity returns 3% and has very high front end costs (commissions to broker). By the way, loans are considered financial aid which of course need to be paid back and believe me, a part of your "financial aid" package will be loans. Following their strategy would have meant much smaller contributions to my retirement (which gives us a tax break and will allow me to retire sooner rather than later) and would have limited our ability to pursue other investment opportunities where we could actually make money. If you are a high income couple and didn't sock away money in a 529 plan my advice is; suck it up, have your kids take out a loan every year (we made ours take out 5k) so they have some "skin in the game" and pay the bill for the rest of their college experience which is the best gift you can give them. You will be much better off in the end and when your kids are done with college your financial commitment for that part of their lives will be finished and you can fund your retirement with the college money you don't have to pay anymore and you can spend that 30k you would have been sending to your annuity every year for something fun! read more

If I could put zero stars I would. All was going good while Ron was gathering our information then he presented the question of "would you be able to pay $x,xxx for your childs education". When we said no we could not pay that much he promptly stacked the papers up and pushed them over to us and said, "I can't help you". Any questions we had after that was very demeaning like we were beneath him. What an attitude change just because we couldn't pay his price. I don't know about everybody else but the only payment I have every month in the four digit range is my mortgage. read more
