I attend CR and I have to say we've had our problems. Mainly, they don't offer the classes that I need when I need them making it essentially impossible to finish my degree. I've had to go to other resources; taking online classes from other colleges and then transferring credits. They also closed all their sites except the main one. They are constantly doing construction.....but have no money to keep the other (in my opinion also better) sites open so people can actually go to college? Ridiculous. I've met some amazing teachers that I'm thankful for, but someone working in Administration needs to get it together more. I would suggest calling Shasta College in Redding and talking to their Dean about how he has helped that college to avoid financial crisis. Perhaps he started by not spending so much money doing construction but instead saving it? Yeah, you might learn a thing or two. read more

A horrible school they say their times are open in the financial office from 11 AM to 4 PM although I have shown up at 11:30 a month before the school is about to start no one there to help and no one's working either update your signs or put a sign that lets people know that I spent time and gas to go there all the way on the other side of town just for them to not to be open and for me to still not have my FAFSA read more

The chicken strip meal was awful the chicken strips tasted burnt, as well as the tater tots. The cafe mead are over priced I think, even as a student struggling right now. I'd rather go to McDonald's. read more

First year here was pretty ass in my perspective, power always goes out and they haven't fixed it properly, the power has gone out more times than I can count, there food is not decent but I wont eat it everyday they charge there food price way to high for what there servicing us student, the internet is so bad here I can FaceTime of call anyone on wifi, and I can't even get online half the time on my computer for school work, even when it come to playing game online, they also charge the parking pass way over price read more

My son transferred here from UH after a problem with his scholarship. This campus is so awesome, you have to see it for yourself to believe it. It's located just south of Eureka, off of the 101. The setting is beautifully located, just nestled in the base of the hill at the foot of the trees. In addition to the their Associates Program, they also have a Police Academy and a Truck Driving School You will feel comfortable with your student living right on campus. The dorm's are a little old, but very well maintained. They have a state of the art Sports Facility as well as a brand new Library and Study Center. Mr. Jim Estes is one of the counselor's there and he is very caring and helpful. If you are looking for a school for yourself or your child, check out this facility. After 4 semesters, my child received a full scholarship to Minot State University. The athletic department was very helpful in setting him up to continue his studies. read more

I feel inclined to write this review due to the cafeteria prices on campus. $12 for a bowl of rice and literally three bites of chicken... the rice bowl should be $5... I'm a classical chef from FCI/PCI in San Jose and for what they're charging they're definitely turning a profit, for food that isn't worth it. The students are attending a community college because they can't afford to go straight to a university... Why on Earth do you charge such high prices in the cafeteria. Got a rice bowl with a hair in it, attached to one of the eggs. Told them about it and they offered a refund or to remake my order. Against my better judgement I got it remade. Didn't notice until after I left, as I was late to class, that all they did was remove the egg. The food was cold and it was missing the second egg I had ordered. Don't order food here, they overcharge and don't care about the quality of your food or accuracy of the order. read more

Wonderful modern campus, amazing teachers (lots of PhD's), great library, and pretty darn good cafeteria (hot herba mate and fair trade coffee as well!). Seriously, eveyone I encountered here, from the admissions ladies to the library staff, to all of my professors, were genuinely there for me. The students were pretty cool too, most were very smart and eager to learn. The general atmosphere which radiates from underneath those Redwood trees (yes there are some on campus) is just out of this world! I know this sounds a bit embellished, but the campus is set in one of the most beautiul settings imaginable for a community college, and it almost seemed like I was at Hogwarts somemties. I can't believe they had accreditation issues, but all that is resolved now and College of the Redwoods is a solid bet for getting a great education for a great deal. CR has a nice campus and the teachers and counselors here really help you IF YOU SEEK HELP! You can not ask questions in class only, utilize the teachers office hours and you will succeed. I have had some ridiculous teachers, but every school has at least one so that's nothing special (check ratemyprofessor.com for good teacher reviews). Overall my experience has been great here and I liked attending CR a lot better than HSU. I have attended both schools and CR seems less like a high school, even though there are high schoolers present lol. I feel like CR has adequately prepared me to transfer to CSULB's nursing program in the fall and I am happy. Thank you CR! read more

My boyfriend has attended this Community College for a year now, and has had nothing but horror stories to share! While the location on the campus is beautiful, it is difficult to get into Eureka or Arcata if you dont have a vehicle, unless you're willing to sit on the bus for an hour . The on campus experience is truly frightening. Lets start with the on-campus living situation. The rooms are dimly lit, with concrete walls. There is no heat, the lights didnt work in the bathroom, or the vanity for the first month and the carpeted floor stained and molded from the leak in the ceiling. There was also a mold infestation in the closet that was never attended to by the schools housing, even after several calls. The student life and housing office is run by students who were nice enough, but were far from knowledgeable or helpful with even the simplest issues. There is no effort to accommodate students ( especially who spend most of there time on campus) with student clubs, events or activities, and as a result the campus is known for its "wild" students and disruptive behavior. Within a year there has been several incidents of student violence, on at least one occasion a student was sent to the hospital. It came as a surprise that there was no significant improvement in the violence, even after hospitalization, and drug/alcohol use rose on campus. The classes offered are OK, and the teachers are average, but I would seriously consider all of the above, and ask around about this "community" college before attending, or sending your teens here. read more

I graduated from College of the Redwoods graduate, and I am completing my master's degree in information technology now. CR was a great school for computers, and the GE courses were just as good as what I got from Humboldt State. CR over prepared me for the Humboldt state program, and the two schools combined have me overprepared for my graduate studies. Even today I rely heavily on concepts and skills taught to me at College of the Redwoods. They really focus on giving their students skills to prepare them for working in the real world. read more

As others have stated, I would give less than one star if I could. This college is a business, not a place of learning. CR has no care for the needs of its clientele (the students) nor any interest in taking care of its employees (the teachers). Any positive remarks I have for the education offered go to the teachers who continue to work for the students despite their own hardship. The college does not make any attempt to service its students. Instead, it cuts corners and makes excuses. I will be attending another junior college just to get required transfer units that it could not provide. read more

I graduated from CR in 2006 then went on to get my bachelor's. Some of my favorite classes and some of the most incredible staff and faculty are at CR. Beautiful campus too! Probably one of the most beautiful college campuses in the country. I love CR!! read more
