Dr. Smiddy spent more than 30 minutes, one on one, going over my medical history and was steadfast in his pursuit of details regarding my health. He's also a bit of a rare find in that he possesses a very keen sense of listening. Furthermore, while the results of my bloodwork were good and unloaded into the patient's portal the following morning, Dr. Smiddy had an associate call me just to reassure me that everything was fine, which is a courtesy I've not experienced since patient records were put online. I like Dr. Coleman because he listens to my concerns and treats me like a person. His staff is also usually pretty polite and friendly. On the occasion where I have needed a referral to another provider, I was quite happy with the doctor he chose. One thing I don't love (and this is why I am only giving 4 stars) is that there is often a really long wait after the stated appointment time. This is probably true at all doctors' offices today, but I still hate it. I am very happy that Dr. Coleman moved from his old office in Piedmont Hospital to the new Piedmont Physicians Group branch in Atlantic Station. Parking is so much more convenient now. And the new facilities are very nice.

Dr. Symbas was quick and did not waste any time in a long drawn office visit. But I'm really grateful that he sent me to a Dr. Lee who cared enough to suggest physical therapy before any injections to my spine would be administered. Dr. Lee saw me at the Battery Atlanta location. He is one of the nicest Doctors I ever met. He took the time to see me even I was an hour late for my first appointment because I got lost at the "Braves Stadium" location. Dr. Lee was very personable but professional, and attentive and he listened well what I had to say. So that's how I got to meet Kari Jacobs, PT. I have never had physical therapy before but it really has been worth the time. Kari at OrthoAtlanta, Marietta, has been amazing and helped me get rid of the sciatic pains. She is a really nice and professional lady and has worked hard to help me strengthen my muscles and my neck. She has given me exercises to do at home, and she advised me how to pay attention to my posture and my sitting positions. If you visit this location, please request for Kari. From start to finish, everyone was extremely helpful and nice to us as I escorted my Uncle to every area of the hospital. They treated me professionally and compassionately. My concern is with an organization that appears to prioritize revenue over patients. I came to the emergency room because I believed I was experiencing a medical emergency--not because I had a choice. I left not only grateful for the medical care, but shocked by the charges that followed. As an insured, working American who pays taxes and health insurance premiums, I found it difficult to understand how basic items and routine services could be billed at prices that seem disconnected from reality. Patients don't comparison-shop during emergencies, and they shouldn't be financially punished for seeking care. The standard response is always, "That's just how healthcare works." But those prices are set by people. Leadership chooses the policies that determine what patients are charged. The medical staff earned my appreciation. The billing practices earned this review. I hope the leadership of this organization takes a hard look at whether its financial priorities truly reflect its mission to care for the community.
