After having to fight with them for a week, I went in…read moreSunday and insisted my mother in law be brought to the ER immediately and the nurses did everything in their power to try and prevent it and convince me she was fine. I had been in and made calls all week saying a dr needed to come in and see her and they were saying a dr had been in and several nurses and she was fine. She ended up falling and they called me and told me they x-rayed her and she was fine and not complaining of any pain and we went in the next day. This happened late at night. When we got there her call button was unplugged and thrown into her laundry basket which she could not get to so if she needed anything there was no way she was going to be able to reach it we made them crawl back under the bed and plugged it back in and insisted that they called an ambulance to have her be taken to a hospital because it was apparent she was not fine. It took over three hours for an ambulance to get there they did not want to call them my mother-in-law was screaming because her leg hurts so bad and they are telling us that she's fine they did x-rays and we kept insisting. The ambulance finally arrives and they could tell immediately something was very wrong with her. They are asking her questions like her name who we are all of the questions they do to assess her as she does not speak one word. The nurse was in there telling them she was fine she doesn't know why we want it and if he learns she's been just fine and even the EMTs were looking at her like she was in sane. I told them if you try to move her she is going to scream because her leg hurts so bad to which the nurse told them her leg was fine I did x-ray she has not been complaining about it she moves her around without any complaints from her at all and I finally just told them just get her to the hospital something is very wrong. They go to pick her up and she screams bloody murder because she is in so much pain. We get to the hospital they start doing bloodwork and the nurse comes back and says it's a good thing you brought her in and she is a very very sick woman. She is severely malnourished, severely dehydrated, in complete renal failure, both kidneys were shut down completely, her heart enzymes were very high her potassium and magnesium were very low and they had thought maybe she had a heart attack it looked so bad. She also has a broken hip. So she laid there with a broken hip severely clearly malnourished, she weighed 78 pounds, and they were trying to tell me in the EMTs and her son that she was fine and did not need to see a doctor. Do not under any circumstances bring in a loved one or even a pet rock to this place. If we had listen to them, my MIL would be dead by now.

Let me start off by saying that if I could give 10 plus stars - I would. I live in California and…read morewas the caregiver for my mother who lived in Texas. One of the hardest things to do is to care for a loved one, especially thousands of miles away. My mom was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and was in and out of the hospital a few times in a short period. Her health was failing and all I could do was pray. Once again, my mom was rushed to the hospital and I immediately flew out to see her. She was no longer able to care for herself as she lived alone. I needed to make sure that she would be safe after post-discharge and definitely wouldn't trust her going to a skilled nursing facility under the care of under-worked and underpaid staff, where she would be almost certain to have bed sores, etc., for lack of care. I didn't know which way to turn; praying for guidance, I was referred to Gilbert's Assisted Living from a rep from the Texas Adult Protective Services who gave high regards; THAT in and of itself speaks volume. God answered my prayer when I met and spoke to the owner, Mr. Ronald over the phone. He assured me that he would do everything he possibly could to help us Mr. Ronald stepped up to the plate like he promised. My husband and I went to the facility where we met Mr. Ronald and his right hand manager, Mrs. "Q' Quananda who was super helpful and professional. It was only by the grace of God that Mr. Ronald went to the extent that he did to assist us; visiting mom at the hospital shortly after the meeting with him at the facility, connecting me with additional resources, and making sure that my mom had a space at the facility upon discharge from the hospital. Unfortunately, my mom's health was declining quickly while in the hospital; the stay took a great toll on her. She was discharged and taken to Gilbert's. She was also under hospice care at the facility. Mr. Ronald was TRULY a BLESSING to me and my family, in fact, he treated us as family. They made sure that she had a favorite treats, foods, and anything else that she wanted. Although my mom had a short time to live after her hospital discharge, I couldn't see her in the care of anyone else but Gilbert's Assisted Living. Mr. Ronald and the staff were TRULY a blessing to us. They made sure that she was treated with dignity, respect, and like family. They also made sure to facetime me daily so that my mom and I could talk since I live so far away and I am forever grateful for that. Do not hesitate to consider this facility with it's attentive, loving, and caring staff. And trust me, they are NOT about the money. They are the epitome of a facility that has a heart for people and upstanding care. Gilbert's Assisted Living was truly a God-send. Give them a call today...it will be the best move that you can make for your loved one.
