    Lobby and Executive Lounge

The staff were fantastic, the hotel itself- beautiful and conveniently located to everything. The mattresses could be a lot better by Marriott Bonvoy standards, but other than an uncomfortable sleep this was the best hotel stay we've had in any part of Germany to date. I'd highly recommend!

Excellent all the way around. Fantastic and clean accommodations; adjoining room for the kids. Front desk was very helpful. Lobby and room fresh, inviting and up to date. The bar/lounge was good. Breakfast was great; eggs cooked to order, chilled food were cold and hot foods were hot. Marco provided outstanding customer service, so did the concierge, but I didn't catch his name.

Clean rooms, very pleasant service in both English and German. Cold water (both sparkling and still) flavored with fresh lemon and lime available all day in the lobby - and they don't mind you filling up your water bottles. Crackers, Apples, and Bananas available with bottles of vitamin water are free for everyone during the morning - can't beat a free breakfast and tuck away an extra apple for later as a snack. Restaurant and bar are very expensive - but this is Cologne and a Marriott so what else were you expecting!

I never actually stayed the night here as a guest. I was, however, privy to the VIP treatment. Since I know someone who is an executive silver member or something fancy like that, we were let into the VIP lounge upstairs. There we found ourselves faced with a spread of food, drinks (alcoholic and not), candy and cookies, comfy couches and chairs, televisions, wifi... everything to kick it in style. Naturally, I took advantage of the amenities and took the time to charge my phone, have some dessert and socialize with my friends. Extra bonus: it's only a five-minute walk away from the HBF. So I was able to hang out, drink a bunch of Kölsch (for free) and then wander down the street to catch my train back to Düsseldorf. Nicht schlect, nicht schlecht.

First last minute visit to Cologne... we knew the chain already, so we were curious to find out this experience. PARKING : 28 euro/day. Too expensive, because there is nearby a public parking available for 18 euro/day. The entrance is also very small, for sure not possible with a big SUV. RECEPTION : friendly. We got also a city map and some explanation. It went very fast due to our online check-in. ROOM : clean. Unfortunately the bed was not comfortable for 2 persons with a bad back. BREAKFAST : included in our room rate. It can be better.... scrambled eggs were cold (!!) and very salt. Bacon.... cold (!!)... and very strange... everything was available for ordering an omelet, but there was nobody on site to do this ! LOCATION : very good. Near the station and 15 min walking to the shops. It's not a bad hotel, but price against quality.... too expensive.

This was my favorite Marriott that we visited in Europe. What a beautiful hotel. The ONLY hotel in Europe that had ice machines in common areas. The room was stunningly beautiful and clean. It had a large sitting area and the bedroom was separated. The bathroom was large with all the toiletries you would want and a scale (although not awesome when you have been eating like crap on your European vacation). The concierge lounge was beautiful with excellent food. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The lounge had two balconies that both offered beautiful views. The location of this hotel is perfect. You walk down the street and through the train station and you are at the cathedral. I wish we would have spent more time here, I was overly impressed.

AFFORDABLE, CLEAN, GREAT LOCATION We arrived on a Saturday afternoon just after Christmas and the line to check in was unmanageable. There were only two front desk clerks and one of them was engaged in a dispute with a couple. This clerk continually went back and forth from the counter to the back office with messages between the disputing couple and the manager. None of us standing in line could understand why the manager wouldn't come to the front counter to resolve the issue so that we could all check-in. Mind you, we weren't in a group, rather were strangers. Anyway, not a good first impression. After the 20-minute check-in ordeal, we opted to eat at the bar in the lobby. Food was good, but the service was grossly lacking. See review for Plusch. This hotel's service standard rings true to Germany's "Customer Service Desert" stereotype. The room was super - spacious and clean. No view, but we didn't require one. The 3rd floor was high up enough to avoid street noise. We were right across from an office building, so we had to close the draped after the sun went down. All in all, not a bad place to lodge in Köln, in spite of it being grossly understaffed and the low standard of customer service.

    Nice executive lounge for breakfast!

We booked a standard suite, but were upgraded to one with an extra 1/2 bath. Some of the suites have a traditional decor, and others are more modern (ask for "the Hanseatic Wing"). We preferred the more modern decor and the staff were happy to oblige us. Overall, the staff was wonderful: friendly, helpful, and professional. We were always welcomed, and any request or question was responded to quickly and professionally. The staff elevated the hotel and turned a really good stay into a great one. Our room was spotless, and very nicely appointed. There were tons of closets and more than enough towels--no skimping. The shower was not just a rain shower head, but a deluge. It was the best shower that we can remember having used in a hotel, which is saying quite a bit. Breakfast (included in our rate) was a full buffet with the usual museli, meats, cheeses, pastries, etc plus a menu for eggs and French toast type items. All were prepared well, served elegantly, and in a comfortable and well appointed room. It was generally faultless. The hotel's location in Köln can't be beat. It is around the corner from the train station, and across the street from the Dom. The entire historic portion of Köln and the shopping district is within 15 minutes walk. There are many restaurants to choose from within a very short walking distance, including a great bakery (Bäckerei Merzenich) only 5 minutes walk away.

We enjoyed last Weihnachtsmarkt there with super hot Glühwein! Other part of the cities Weihnachtsmarkt were closed. I still remember the early morning's church bell sounds. It was not loud. It was not bothering like alarm sound. In an unknown city unfamiliar hotel bed you woke up by the church bell sounds. It also helps to be a Hilton Diamond member because there are perks, like view upgrades of the dome, and free breakfast. A few times I've enjoyed the split level condo suite with dreamy tub-- for you honeymooners out there, this is the room you want. It's its own castle. Be sure to order breakfast buffet downstairs, and ask for friendly, English-speaking serving host, Polat Dal who is extra helpful for seniors guests and those with mobility challenges. It was very nice to see someone working attentively for guests' comfort. See you soon, Hilton Cologne!

I was upgraded to the Club Level ... and this was my first-ever experience with it. It was like walking into a very nice office reception area, with food & drink readily available. It was funny one night when I tried their afternoon "reception". They brought out lots of appetizers and even a hot penne pasta dish. The staff on this floor is amazing, as well! My room was very nicely-appointed, and I had a direct view of the train tracks just before crossing the Hohenzollern Bridge. Since I'm a bit of a train nut, this was absolute perfection for me! I wasn't even envious I didn't get a Cathedral-facing view, either. :-) Also, since it was late May, the sunrise lit up my room beautifully every morning. (Alas, if there was one thing that bugged me a little, it was the shower. The water temperature would change every time someone flushed a toilet somewhere in the building. Hopefully this can be addressed. On the bright side, at least my morning showers were invigorating!) Legends, the bar on the main floor, was fantastic! I will judge a place by how they make their Whiskey Sours, and Legends is indeed legendary. Their food menu is plenty satisfying, too. I enjoyed at least a couple afternoons & evenings here. Since breakfast was included in my hotel reservation, I definitely took advantage and ate at Glashaus. Now THIS is a breakfast buffet! I think I could spend an entire morning here just getting fat & happy (vacation calories, like movie theater calories, don't count!). The layout is world-class, as is the Omelet Station. Glashaus breakfast is definitely a way to fall off the diet wagon, heheh! :-D All-in-all, a great place to stay and I look forward to staying again.
