Reviews were only mediocre about Colonial, but thought I'd give them a try. Wish I hadn't... They came out and sprayed for weed control, 6700 sq. ft. of lawn and did it all in less than 10 minutes, including dragging hose out and putting away. 2 weeks later only about 20% of weeds were wilting. Had to have them come back out for a 2nd application, of which they charged me for, shouldn't have and didn't refund my payment. They also sprayed for Crabgrass control on a separate occasion and again 2 weeks later, only about 20% of Crabgrass was wilting. Had to have them come back out and spray again. They weren't supposed to spray the Bent grass in the lawn and did it anyway, now dead spots all over my back lawn. Could not be more disappointed in my experience. read more

After couple years of wonderful service, decided to take advantage of their prepayment of whole year services to get discount. After the first time of having this company perform a yard cleanup, we feel we were taken advantage of because of our prepayment. Yard guys here less than hour and a half and disappeared with a ton of work left to do. They resent them next day after their yard manager confirmed they did not complete job and after 2 walk through on same day the job was still not complete leaving obvious weeds, and debris in yard with rock and bark even in neighbors yard. The workers were disrespectful when pointed out the obvious tall weeds and leaves blown to side of fence without removal and clumps in areas not removed. When called to speak to lead manager of the business in re to incomplete job we were not allowed to talk to him with secretary letting us know they were discontinuing our services. 2 days later the yard manager called stating the same info and would not refer me to the lead manager. We were left to send certified letter about our experience and a request of resolution of refunding us our prepayment for non services, notifying the exact amount to be refunded - We did receive a refund but they failed to refund us the incomplete yard cleanup as well as a pre emergent weed control that showed no charge on our estimate and also they performed too early in winter which is what created numerous weeds to sprout that their own crew could not properly cleanup. (Close to $500 short on our refund as they held onto our money for the 2 incomplete jobs). Our landscaping lights electrical wires were ripped and sprinklers in bark beds destroyed leaving husband for days trying to fix and still trying to fix a month later. After an email sent to billing asking for the proper refund, the lead manager got involved by calling my husband on phone asking "if we could be done" - After the discussion on phone that did not offer correct reimbursement, my husband went to the office and tried to discuss the problem in person with him and ask to be refunded the 2 incomplete jobs and to not discontinue our services as we still want to keep our services for pest control and lawn weed/feed/ sprinkler services as we are happy with those services but unsatisfied with the 2 incomplete jobs. The lead manager said no and pulled out $200 cash and gave to my husband just to get rid of him in his office and be done with us and felt this would make up for refunding us less than half of what they shorted us. This business had 5 stars as they were wonderful in past until this experience of being taken advantage for prepaying and discontinuing our services after we called them about their yard cleanup crew not completing the job. read more

Most of the reviews on here are very old and do not describe my experience. We have used Colonial for many years and they have never shied away from any challenge we've faced. Our yard is almost an acre and requires a lot of attention. The guys at Colonial have always been responsive and friendly and we certainly appreciate their honest assessments and suggested resolutions. I would not hesitate to recommend this company. read more

With these guys in town I'd keep an eye on your kids in your back yard and have cameras installed. They don't care about overspray that drifts over and mists neighbors who are playing or barbecuing outside, they just want to get their rounds done no matter who it poisons. I just got sprayed today in a friends organic yard, there's mountains of evidence (that pest control companies call bs) that it causes all sorts of problems like cancer. Many people have allergies to pesticides but they don't care. Install cameras to protect your family and then use them for a lawsuit. read more

We are regular clients for 10 years. Believe it or not we spend $4000 yearly between duplex & 2 acre home. We hired the handyman service. It was a 3 hour minimum at $60.00 an hour. There were 2 guys. So 1 1/2 hrs. I wanted a bush dug up from the root. 2 guys worked for 1 hr. They didn't dig up bush they just trimmed branches. They left after 1 hour. I called & complained. They informed me it's 1/2 hour driving time each way. 2 guys, I only received 1 hr of work. Unfortunately they didn't dig out the bush like I needed. It will be growing back double in spring. So after hiring them, my husband & I will have to try & dig bush out. I feel totally ripped off. We're long time customers. I would never recommend this service. We actually may find different spray service next year as well after this experience. Don't be so greedy Colonial. :( read more

We tried Colonial lawn service for the entire year last year. It appeared they were doing a good job at first, but the applications this year have done nothing to prevent the flat blade grass from coming back again. The secondary issue we were having is we wanted the weeds in our landscaped rocks in the front of the house to be taken care of. At first they wanted to charge $70 which we balked at. They then said they would provide a complimentary partial service. That did nothing, and the grass is still on the rocks. Upon calling customer service to request a cancellation, the representative became argumentative, and it was difficult for me to even get my point made. I never did have a chance to chat about the flat blade grass, but in any event, I would recommend you look elsewhere. We find a lawn service that provides seven services a year instead of three, for a small increase in fee. read more

I had Colonial Lawn install a sprinkler system in 2012. They have been winterizing my system every year. I called to make an appointment for this year and was told that because I am not using their yearly weed & feed program, my account has been closed. In other words they do not want my business anymore. I was not notified of this condition in advance. I also had my backyard removed and replanted and the first year it was so full of weeds that I had to pay them to spray. They never got rid of the bentgrass which I specially as for. I want to give a shout out for Lowell at Colonial. Its nice to see someone who enjoys his job and greats you with a smile and listens to what your concerns are. Lowell noticed a dry section in our lawn and checked the soil to see if we were getting enough water on the lawn. He left us with some information on watering times and amounts. We had some oxalis in our lawn and he sprayed those spots. Again I say thank you for a job well done. read more

Could not be happier with the complete landscaping project in my yard. For someone with an incredibly busy schedule, I was able to leave the planning and work in the hands of Lance - only to see a beautifully redone yard a few short weeks later. Their services included removing the old lawn, pesky Bermuda grass, shrub removal, rock work, new sprinkler system, new top soil, new sod, and beautiful decorate trees and plants. Colonial Lawn & Garden, Yakima is AS GOOD AS IT GETS! and even BETTER!!! I have been with Colonial for several years since my husband passed away. They have become like family to me and take such good care of my yard and are always so helpful!!!! I live on several acres in West Valley and constantly get raves about how well kept my yard is.They are so friendly and willing to help me in any way they can. I signed up with Colonial with high hopes for my lawn. After the first tree and shrub treatment my tree leaves were getting eaten alive...I called for them to come respray and do a systemic treatment...They never did come out. I bought chemicals for a systemic ground treatment and my trees are now in fantastic shape. I had 3 lawn weed and feed treatments and my lawn looked horrible...I finally applied 3 lbs of triple 16 and my lawn is lush and green. Stay away from Colonial at all costs.
