Went for the cosmic crisp apple trees that nobody else had in stock. And, they had a great sale over Labor Day weekend. The staff was super helpful with picking the trees with the best branches, etc. They also helped us with some of the good organic treatments for dealing with the plague that has descended on our existing apples. This place supposedly sells what gardeners need. I went to get tomato cages, a fairly common purchase at the beginning of the season. I was directed to a stack of about twenty, all bent into and on one another. I asked if there were any that weren't broken, and they said that was all they had. So the salesgirl spent half an hour trying to help me salvage any of them that could be used, any not totally broken, and it was just a travesty. What kind of gardening store can't sell you tomato cages? Furthermore, the people that work there have no idea what they are doing. They seem totally disinterested and ignorant. I asked for garlic one day and the girl behind the counter lazily looked up from her cell phone and said they didn't carry it. I said you don't carry garlic at all? And she said no, they don't have cooking supplies! I said I wanted to plant some and she seemed surprised that garlic is actually grown, rather than opened from a bottle. read more

My experience with nursery and landscape places is rather limited, however this place seems to be an above average place - based on what I would expect from such a business. It's one of the few places currently aware you were able to buy Christmas trees, and since my Best half loves the smell of pine trees during Christmas, it was nice that we were able to find this place. The tree selection was well organized and very adequate. Things were arranged based on height of the tree with 1 foot increments increasing the cost by roughly $10. They had trees ranging from 5 to 10 feet, with a number of different styles available. I'm not smart enough to be able to tell The difference between different types of Pinetree's, but the dude working here was definitely able to... That or he was lying to me very convincingly. Inside are plenty of garden related accompaniments and signage for inside and outside your house. The next time I need a specific house plant, assign declaring that this is a secret garden, or some bulbs for perennials (is that right?) I definitely know where to go! read more

DO NOT SHOP @ ROOTS NURSERY! Yesterday I bought a plant there. Then told last night I could get it for less, double the size, & healthier at Costco. So I went to roots to return the overpriced undersize plant. The sweet gal at the counter said Brian (owner) wouldn't return because of the season we are in??? Ok so because it's May you don't do returns? I asked to speak to him as the policy states "we cannot return or exchange anything without a valid receipt." Sounds like if I have my receipt from YESTERDAY, then I should be able to right? No, he refused to return saying that just because it says with a valid receipt, it doesn't say that he will do any returns and that legally he doesn't need to. I'll save you all the argument we went back and forth, but he was extremely rude and condescending to me. Even after I stated I'll be sharing on google and yelp, he acted invincible and didn't care about customer service. Pissed off & shaking from speaking to a very disrespectful business owner I grabbed my plant and stormed out. Accidentally bumping a plant and knocking it over. (Mind you nothing broke.) Yakima is in the top three places in the West Coast for Covid 19 yet these people can't be bothered to follow the governor's mandate or value their customers. I tried it once a month ago and left before buying. I tried it again today and found one employee unmasked. She was outside but it was still contrary to what we need to do to stop this. People were shopping unmasked. One of the checkers inside had her mask pulled down with her nose exposed. A person they were waiting on across the way had also just covered her mouth. I imagine it was their way of flipping off the rules. What ignorant and thoughtless people. Don't go this year...or maybe ever. read more

Roots landscaped our yard in 2018. Our home was awarded the best home in the Tour of Homes. No doubt the landscape was a large component. They have maintained the yard since installation. They have replaced plants, changed out lights at low to no cost. They are definitely not the cheapest price, but they are the best VALUE read more

I have worked with Roots Nursery & Landscape for years. We had our underground sprinklers installed by them along with several other projects like a decorative cement patio created. It has been a pleasure to work with this group! I have been satisfied with each project and appreciate having a local company to go to for irrigation questions, problems, aeration, and most importantly for me, incredible selection of plants! I love to go and browse as they always have something unique and unexpected! My family who come to visit from Salt Lake and Wyoming always enjoy stopping in at Roots when they are in Yakima. We had our yard landscaped by Roots and it turned out fantastic. Bryan was very good to work with and the cost was very fair.

My husband and I had looked all over town for a Noble Fir for our Christmas tree...it's the only kind of like :) they were all very small and expensive. You couldn't find a decent size tree. I found this nursery on line and was very impressed. It is full service. The guy working there walked all over the place with me to find the perfect tree and was very patient. He was very friendly and just a great employee. He carried it out of the barn, cut the bottom off and then carried and tied it on my car. Although it still kills me to pay what they want for fresh trees in Yakima, having come from where trees are abundant and I had never paid more than $25 for a tree, I was so impressed with the selection and customer service that I will definitely be back. I had a sprinkler system and sod put in. There were problems however they followed through with fixing the issues. One problem was the underbid however I understood the issue and had no problem paying the for the cost of the extra sod. It took some follow through with them however the problems with dirt settling and other issues were eventually resolved. I am happy with the work done. read more
