Colonial Pharmacy is not only one of the best pharmacies in the area, it's one of the best I have ever patronized. The staff from front to back seems exceptionally well trained, not only individually, but as a team. The pharmacists and staff are knowledgeable, friendly, kind, and professional. They call if there is a question or concern, answer inquiries promptly, and manage peak times with grace. Not only is it a great pharmacy, it's a fun place to shop with unique clothing (!!), a nice selection of greeting cards, confections I love but don't readily find elsewhere, and seasonal items like garden decor, beachside accessories (including flip flops), and even housewares and locally made candles. They have a nice little snack center, too. In terms of price, you won't save money shopping here, but it will save you time, and you never know what you will find, which makes it a fun place to shop. Also, great parking, which is something you can't say about a lot of places in this region. I really enjoy being a customer here. read more

I waited nearly an hour for a cough medicine that was supposedly called in (from practically across the street in New London). First, I was told they never received it- after I had already waited a half and hour. I might have wondered if my doctor forgot to call it in, but this has happened each time I've had to use Colonial- and from 3 different doctor's and dentist's offices. I felt I was being seen as a bother- as many others of have said- that my complaint was being dismissed. The person "helping" me gave no apology or explanation. I did not experience any of the kind, friendly, professional service some have noted. I felt an arrogance and dismissiveness from other employees behind the counter as well. Since this experience has happened 3 or more other times, I will go out of my way to avoid having prescriptions filled here. The store itself is, as others have said, an old-fashioned variety store and I love their products. I'm just sorry the pharmacy is so unpleasant to work with. read more

I usually avoid this pharmacy because they just seem arrogant and dismissive, but they are the only local ones who can do my current prescription. And once again they were arrogant! It has been weeks since my prescription was sent in, so I was surprised when it wasn't ready. They informed me it was going to take a couple of days which is fine. But when I inquired as to how this can be avoided in the future they told me they had sent a text and it was never answered - it sounded very accusatory. Well I never got the text and good customer service people would have allowed for that to be the case!!! Because I never got the text and whatever happened to making a phone call. And could you just not ask for peoples personal information when others are able to hear! If things do not improve I'll drive even an extra hour to avoid this type of behavior. read more

Overpriced and disorganized. I often have to wait 30 minutes or more for my prescriptions even when it was called in the day before. When I've questioned the price of meds they have come back with a lower price, so why wasn't that that offered to me originally? They also don't carry insulin or common diabetes meds. They won't even order them for me! Moving to Walmart for better prices and service. It's worth the drive. read more

The customers in this store are very rude. They often yell at the workers and do not return the respect they deserve. I am a regular at Colonial and have witnessed a young man or woman cashier getting called horrible things and dealing with a raised voice (especially in the pharmacy). For younger and older workers who do everything for these customers and bend over backwards, the customers often disrespect them, and the workers always return with a smile and a respectful manner. I can guarantee that no matter how much these poor workers get paid, it is not enough, as customers never ask how they are, make insulting personal remarks, and cross lines no decent human should cross. These workers continue to talk through prescriptions and go completely out of their way, no matter how nice or rude you are to them. Not to mention the number of older men and women who comment on young workers' bodies, physical appearance, and weight. Is it too far to say it is disgusting? I think not. Colonial workers are rock stars and endure the worst to be the best, no matter what. Honestly, they should start getting tips. read more

With their move to their brand new building on New London's main access avenue, Colonial Pharmacy is a critical resource in the town's life as well as many of the neighboring communities, and one of the local stores anchoring the town's civic life. As local drug stores have been swallowed in a sea of corporate mergers and acquisitions geared to enhance the profits of corporations at the expense of people, Colonial Pharmacy is a wonderful example of what happens when local businesses succeed and turn adversity into victory. Their new building is enormous. Larger than what a normal corporate competitor would build. With drive-in windows, ample parking, and steps away from major bank branches. Its low-profile architecture and paint dovetails into the town's New England scenery. Inside, the clean features, ample, expansive aisles and large shelf space, provide for a pleasant shopping experience. And as well, an expanded stationary and cards section, a large office supply section, housewares and cleaning supplies, tourist necessities, and best of all, a local product area, open the way for a large prescription pharmacy section. The building has reportedly been equipped with resilient features and independent power generation equipment to ensure its ability to maintain operations during an emergency or disaster. One more way that it ensures its link to the town's overall resiliency. And the staff has obviously been trained in customer service, making me update the review I wrote a couple of years ago. read more

Would not recommend. Had a prescription that had to be compounded and the doctor's office sent the script here. The script was mailed but became lost in the mail. Called to discuss and the pharmacy manager was very arrogant and claimed that once the package left the store they were not responsible and that she didn't work for the post office. Spoke with the post office and they said the shipper needed to file a claim. Once again the pharmacy manager was arrogant and said that was not the pharmacies responsibility. The only thing is they were cheapest for the medication but then you get what you pay for. Will not be getting the script refilled from Colonial Pharmacy. I will use a different compounding pharmacy that has better trained staff and ones that are not arrogant and full of themselves. read more

The store itself is beautiful unfortunately the service has gone way downhill. I have to use their pharmacy because it's the only one local that has decent hours that I am able to get too however they never seem to get my prescriptions right nothing is ever ready when I get there. I have had numerous incidents of them making mistakes on my monthly pill packs. The people who work there turn over quite a bit, so it is not unusual for well intentioned people to not know what they are doing. Your best bet is to talk directly to a pharmacist. Colonial Pharmacy really left me in a lurch. I called to renew a 90 prescription that was originally filled there. I received an email or text the next day telling me the it was ready to be picked up. When I went thru the drive thru to get it, I was given a price that was approx 20 times what I had payed the first time. When I said that there must be some mistake the pharmacy tech and to check, came back and said, "oh, we don't take your insurance anymore". Do you think that they might have told me before they filled it and told me to come get it? I was/am down to my last few pills and I refused the prescription and asked them to transfer it to CVS in Claremont. She said, "no problem, right away". I decided to all Colonial a few hours later just to follow up and make sure that they had, in fact, transferred it to CVS. The tech that I got on the phone said, "oh no, that's not correct. CVS has to call us and request the transfer." Had I not followed up, I would be out of medicine by the beginning of the week. I will not use Colonial Pharmacy going forward! read more

The pharmacy was extremely helpful filling three prescriptions I had forgotten and left at home in Massachusetts. They coordinated with my home pharmacy and were gracious and efficient. The rest of the store is enormous. It has an excellent selection of over the counter and cosmetic products, but also has a huge selection of high quality and reasonably priced hobby supplies. Also many toys, swim and beach items, gift wrap, magazines, cards, local goods, touristy things like T-shirts, hats, post cards and mugs, a selection of pricy clothing, gifts, candy, kitchen and other household goods, some auto and fixit items, in summary most anything you'd need to run out to a store to pick up except groceries. Long hours too. Great store to have around. Somewhat dangerous to my credit card as I always leave with items I didn't go in to purchase, but couldn't leave without. read more

I have filled multiple prescriptions here and yet he took forever to fill my one easy antibiotic prescription (25mins). Didn't even act like it was a problem. read more

It is unfortunate the pharmacy is such a disaster and nothing gets done about it. I wonder if they ever read these Yelp reviews. I will suggest they do next time I go in. Ive had the same experiences as other reviewers. it's incredibly inconvenient to go in expecting your refill to be ready only to find out they ran out of your medication. No one notifies you of this. Or they put it back because you didn't show up in 3 days. I agree with other reviewers that the staff can be quite unfriendly, and even rude. if you don't like working there go somewhere else and hurry. There are plenty of jobs out there right now. I could go to concord instead. A little farther away for me, but if I always have to make two trips to pick up a prescription in the long run I'd be better off. Great hometown pharmacy. They have all the usual over the counter meds and supplies you would need from a pharmacy. They have a great selection of gifts and seasonal items. We can always find what we need there. The staff are friendly and helpful. The pharmacy staff are very knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions about medications. read more

I called in my prescription to be transferred from another pharmacy to colonial at 830am today and I called at 430 and they had not done it.. called them back 2hrs later and they said we got it and will call you when its ready.. i never got the call and now have to wait another day to get my medicine everyone had an attitude when I called and asked for an update.. i couldn't believe it took 8hrs for them to pick up the phone and call the other pharmacy to transfer my medicine and who know I probably won't get a phone call tomorrow im sure ill have to call them and im sure ill get an attitude.. there's no customer service what so ever and I feel I've been mistreated because of what type of medication I am getting filled read more

If not for the nice folks who work up front, I would give them 1 star. The pharmacy is awful! They never have your prescription ready. You can call before you arrive to see if it's ready and somehow it still isn't ready when you get there. This has been the case every single time we've gotten a RX there but today was the last straw. I tried calling yesterday to see if it was ready and got left on hold so long I had to hang up for a Zoom meeting. This morning, I called and left a message bf they opened asking them to have it ready for 9 a.m. pickup but to call my cell if that was going to be a problem. I called at 9:15 but was put on hold. I ran other errands and then on the 40-minute drive back down at 10:30, I called again. I was left on hold for 30 minutes (hold music playing the whole time) only to arrive at the exit and decided to just hang up and go there. I then had to wait in the pharmacy, surrounded by unmasked employees and customers, for 20 minutes. My husband and son have COVID, so I was trying to avoid going inside. This pharmacy makes me sick. I will not get another RX filled here. And the cashiers in the pharmacy are extremely rude. read more

We love Colonial for so many reasons, but the pharmacist and the staff in the pharmacy are incredibly rude. There is some drama every time I pick up prescription from long wait times, rude employees, and twice I have been completely ignored as the pharmacist and the employees chatted for ten minutes, once in store and once at the window. We waited and watched at least three employees walk past it, no one at the counter inside, until we finally knocked on the window at which point one of the employees shoved a finger in the window to tell us to wait. We waited and then he rude for the remainder of the interaction. Just so unpleasant in our sweet town. read more

Every time I come here they are all out of whatever it is I need. If you are looking for over the counter medication, it's a 50/50 chance they actually have it in stock. The isles in the store are unorganized and chaotic, and resembles an ocean state job lot more than a pharmacy. Every single time I go in to pick up a prescription it's at least a half hour wait. Even when I called in a refill DAYS IN ADVANCE!! I've been told twice now in the last 6 months that they "lost the prescription and have to find it." It's ridiculous. I can be the only person there and still get treated like my time doesn't matter. I hear them chattering about not feeling like filling certain prescriptions, watch them only half ass look for prescriptions, and act bothered when other people come to pick up their meds. Never have I had to deal with such blatant disrespect. I'm currently working on switching pharmacies. I wish there were more options locally. read more

Horrible experience there at the pharmacy.pharmacy staff was very rude and unprofessional. I called and had a refill filled and made sure that it was going to be cleared through my insurance they said yes it's all set. I get there the pharmacy tech says nope you owe us $134 your insurance won't cover it, so I called my insurance they said no we'll pay for but the pharmacy took the claim back. I told colonial Pharmacy that I would pay cash and I had to run to the bank two shops down the road, by the time I get back they said we no longer have your pills we gave them to someone else even though you have a reaction to the brand we're trying to give you! They then proceeded to call the police on me for questioning why they were giving me such a hard time. I would not recommend this pharmacy to anyone because this isn't the first time I've had these issues or similar issues. read more

I've use Colonial pharmacy for decades, due to its location. It's a battle to get prescriptions refilled. I'm on maintenance medication that can't be deviated. The pharmacy tries to sneak other brand medications on me. They rarely have my full prescriptions. They don't fill my prescriptions when I call them in. I have to wait 20 plus minutes for them to be filled, when they should be ready when I arrive. This week I called in a refill on Monday morning. I stated I'd be by around 4 pm, after work, to pick up. When I got there the prescription wasn't ready. They claimed the prescription had expired and I needed the Dr. To call in another. The prescription had 2 refills left and was only a couple of months old. My Dr. called in a new prescription Tuesday. Wednesday, after work, I went to the pharmacy to pick up my script. It wasn't there!! They claimed it was sent out for delivery. I didn't ask for the prescription to be delivered. I'm angry now. I've got to go back a third time, this week, to get the one prescription. read more

I've been coming to Colonial for my prescriptions for years. In general, it's a great place to get just about anything, but you'd better be willing to overpay for it. It's also extremely frustrating, and odd, that they are only open until 6pm on Saturdays, yet are open until 8pm every weekday. I mean, you'd think they'd at least be open later in the summer like other businesses in town. I also got there at 6:04pm tonight (Sat) and the employees wouldn't open the door to let me grab my waiting prescription. Unfortunately, the "small town" feel they promote clearly doesn't extend to helping out a neighbor. I guess that's just the stuffy New London way, closing early and snubbing people. By far the worst pharmacy I have ever been to. Rudest employees ever including the pharmacist . Wait time is absolutely ridiculous. Treat customers horrible. They will run your prescription for the full amount and then give you a partial then will try to refuse to fill the rest for days even though your without medication. Wonderful local pharmacy with a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Pharmacists always take the time to help customers and really go above and beyond with their service. Nothing like the impersonal and rushed service you would get at a chain store. It is also a general store with anything you could need from gifts, home goods, cards, seasonal items, school/office supplies, baby supplies and more. Overall I would highly recommend Colonial and honestly wouldn't even bother with any other pharmacy in the area. This one is the best! read more
