A nice paint your own pottery spot. Loses a star because it's pretty pricey--most of the pieces are $25-$45 plus there's an $8/pp studio fee.

I read about Color Me Mine and decided to surprise my daughter with a visit on a whim. The timing turned out to be great, because I was able to take advantage of the teacher discount (the studio fee was only $1 for each of us, instead of $8). Check their online calendar for special dates and discounts. This was a really fun experience for us! I would suggest blocking off at least 2 hours for painting your masterpiece; we were there for 3 hours and no one made us feel rushed or like we were inconveniencing them at all. You basically go in, pick a piece you want to paint, find paints and embellishments like stamps to use, and go to town. After you're done painting, you pay and then come back a week later to pick up your completed work. Once you check in, the staff pretty much leaves you to it. While I appreciate the freedom and low pressure environment, as first timers it would have been nice to have a more thorough introduction to the process. There are signs all around with various instructions, but I can see how that might be confusing and overwhelming trying to take everything in while you're also creating. We were able to sort everything out and ended up with some memorable pieces we are very happy with. I saw there's an option to do parties there and I'm seriously considering doing that for my daughter on her next birthday (or even for myself). Seems like a great way to keep kids entertained and the party souvenir is built right in! The only issue I can foresee is getting everyone their completed pieces a week later, but I think that'd be worth the extra effort. My daughter and I knew immediately we would be back!

First time trying this cute place! I will back many more times because of how much I love it. You walk in and it's so cutely decorated with lots of tables. You don't have to make a reservation you just show up and pick a table. Then you pick something to paint and they fire it for you. You can paint anything from cups, to plates, to cute planters. You can pick any paint color you want and be as creative. They have tea for free. The atmosphere is just so warm and cozy and I had an amazing time!

Needed some downtime but girl time. Fun place to paint, drink, snack and relax. Kids birthdays and a bachelorette party but with the room dividers kept most of the noise at bay. Remember to check your parking in case you paint longer than you paid the meter for! Paint on Saturday pick up on Thursday

Checked out Color Me Mine for a work Christmas party recently. I was pumped to finally visit as I follow them online and always see photos of the unique pieces people make. I even saved photos of cool designs for inspiration. The space is pretty big and the environment allows you to wander amongst the beautiful paint colors, use any art supplies you want and you don't even have to clean up the mess! And don't forget BYOB and food. Here's how it works: pick the blank slate pottery piece you like, paint it (they have stencils, stamps, dowels, etc to work with), leave the piece for a few days, pick it up after its been glazed and fired. After visiting once I want to plan another event here.

My best friend and I love coming here for lots of laughs, great conversation, and trying to get out artistic groove on! Color me Mine is located in Portland at Thompson's Point. When here you could make a day of it. On the opposite side of the building there is a restaurant, Locally sauced. A winery, brewery and distillery! You pay for parking at this establishment. Once entered you are greeted and asked if you have been in before, we have been here several times so we know the drill. If you have not. You are told to pick a seat, grab an apron and go pick out your pottery! They have small pieces that look like ornaments to large pieces like platters and such. Once piece is selected you get creative you can pick your paint or stamps or pattern that they will help you with. The amount of time you spend depends on the size of the piece to how elaborate your painting the piece may be. We usually spend a couple of hours. When down they will fire your piece and you return in a little less then a week to pick up your finished piece. We went on a Saturday so pick is Thursday. I will update my post with my finished piece but here are my unfinished, and painted yet not finished piece.

Some of the pottery selection--there is plenty more.

They don't make it very clear in the lottery system if the ceramic class is for hand building or on a pottery wheel. I was not looking to learn anything on the wheel. However, I discovered on the first day that the class was in fact making pottery on the wheel. I decided to give it a go since I had already paid upwards of $300 for the entire course. In my first class, the instructor told me that I was going too slow and that I needed to apply more pressure on the clay. I was even worse in my second class because I have early arthritis symptoms and had severe pain in my wrist during and after the class. I felt like my fingers were getting locked and I was not able to apply pressure on the clay. And for the next 2-3 days after the class I experienced pain in my wrist and fingers. I emailed them about my problem in detail and asked if I can switch to hand building which didn't require working on a wheel. They offered me two choices - one I switch to hand building from mid session, meaning I have already missed 2-3 intro classes. Or I continue working on the wheel. But they can't carry forward my credit to the next round of classes. Neither of these choices made sense as I had no prior experience with hand building and I already told them I couldn't work on the wheel. I wanted to support a small business, but they do not care about anything EXCEPT money. Ultimately, I told them they can keep my money and they did. And also never had the decency to reply to my email after that. FYI: anyone planning to join the pottery class, know that you will need to wait in the line to clean up and the whole process itself takes 30 mins or more, which eats into the time they've listed for the class.

If you know what you want, call the friendly crew, place your order, then pay via credit card. They will stack the clay on a pallet just outside the entrance ready to load into your vehicle. We bought 150 pounds of clay recently and it was a lot less harrowing than backing your vehicle down that narrow alley beside the cafe.

My partner *loves* coming here because he usually finds exactly what he's looking for (... and a whole bunch of stuff he wasn't looking for, but it inspires him soOooOooo he has to get all of that too). For him, it's five stars. For me, the couple of times I've been to pick up/look for something... the employees have been so, so incredibly rude. Clearly, I don't give off an artsy vibe, and they know it. One particular time that haunts me: I asked about something specific and I used an alternative term for it (but still a correct term; I had to do a quick internet search after I left to see if I really had misspoken - I hadn't) and all four employees behind the counter just stared blankly at me. I repeated my question, explaining what I needed with context so they could visualize what I was talking about, and was met with "never heard of it", "that doesn't exist", "we don't carry anything like that". I eventually found what I was looking for on my own, and when I cashed out I was met with snickers and eyerolls. "Ohhhhhhh, you meant [other term]." I felt so ridiculed and awkward and unwelcome. For me, it's a one star.
