I read about Color Me Mine and decided to surprise my daughter with a visit on a whim. The timing turned out to be great, because I was able to take advantage of the teacher discount (the studio fee was only $1 for each of us, instead of $8). Check their online calendar for special dates and discounts. This was a really fun experience for us! I would suggest blocking off at least 2 hours for painting your masterpiece; we were there for 3 hours and no one made us feel rushed or like we were inconveniencing them at all. You basically go in, pick a piece you want to paint, find paints and embellishments like stamps to use, and go to town. After you're done painting, you pay and then come back a week later to pick up your completed work. Once you check in, the staff pretty much leaves you to it. While I appreciate the freedom and low pressure environment, as first timers it would have been nice to have a more thorough introduction to the process. There are signs all around with various instructions, but I can see how that might be confusing and overwhelming trying to take everything in while you're also creating. We were able to sort everything out and ended up with some memorable pieces we are very happy with. I saw there's an option to do parties there and I'm seriously considering doing that for my daughter on her next birthday (or even for myself). Seems like a great way to keep kids entertained and the party souvenir is built right in! The only issue I can foresee is getting everyone their completed pieces a week later, but I think that'd be worth the extra effort. My daughter and I knew immediately we would be back! read more

First time trying this cute place! I will back many more times because of how much I love it. You walk in and it's so cutely decorated with lots of tables. You don't have to make a reservation you just show up and pick a table. Then you pick something to paint and they fire it for you. You can paint anything from cups, to plates, to cute planters. You can pick any paint color you want and be as creative. They have tea for free. The atmosphere is just so warm and cozy and I had an amazing time! read more

Checked out Color Me Mine for a work Christmas party recently. I was pumped to finally visit as I follow them online and always see photos of the unique pieces people make. I even saved photos of cool designs for inspiration. The space is pretty big and the environment allows you to wander amongst the beautiful paint colors, use any art supplies you want and you don't even have to clean up the mess! And don't forget BYOB and food. Here's how it works: pick the blank slate pottery piece you like, paint it (they have stencils, stamps, dowels, etc to work with), leave the piece for a few days, pick it up after its been glazed and fired. My best friend and I love coming here for lots of laughs, great conversation, and trying to get out artistic groove on! Color me Mine is located in Portland at Thompson's Point. When here you could make a day of it. On the opposite side of the building there is a restaurant, Locally sauced. A winery, brewery and distillery! You pay for parking at this establishment. Once entered you are greeted and asked if you have been in before, we have been here several times so we know the drill. If you have not. You are told to pick a seat, grab an apron and go pick out your pottery! They have small pieces that look like ornaments to large pieces like platters and such. Once piece is selected you get creative you can pick your paint or stamps or pattern that they will help you with. The amount of time you spend depends on the size of the piece to how elaborate your painting the piece may be. We usually spend a couple of hours. When down they will fire your piece and you return in a little less then a week to pick up your finished piece. We went on a Saturday so pick is Thursday. Disappointed beyond words. Ladies night free studio fee is a myth. Parties of 6 or more don't get that discount. Proven tonight when friends and I went to paint pottery. We were charged the $8 fee (each) and then a 15% gratuity for NOTHING. The young man working there didn't offer anyone help. Then when she checked out he gave us the receipt to "fill out" with more of a rip??? Very disappointed. Just a lesson to not take advertisements at face value. I came here with my 9 year old daughter. It was a busy Sunday morning, but we just beat the rush, luckily. During the 2 hours we spent here, they had to turn away a lot of people because there were no tables available. It sounded like you can make reservations ahead of time (?) so that may be a good option if you're looking to visit on the weekend. When you are given a table, there are self guided instructions on how to proceed. They were a bit confusing and it was slightly overwhelming, but the staff who were working were very helpful and we asked a lot of questions. There are a ton of options to choose from re: what you may want to paint, maybe even too many, but eventually figured it out and settled down. We may have done some observing to figure out how everything works. We may have even poured some paint on the wrong dishes and quickly put them in the sink to get rid of the evidence. Our table was right next to the paint wall, and if we return, I hope to never sit near it again. Everyone used our table as a rest to pour their paint and it meant there were crowds of people right next to our table at all times. Kind of distracting from the peaceful painting experience you may be looking for. There is no shortage of paint selections, but you may need to hunt down a paint color from another table if it is not placed back where it belongs. But again, the staff is very willing to help you in any way you may need it. They also have a variety of techniques to help you paint your piece from stencils to stamps to pinterest ideas to cut outs. The studio fees are $10 for adults and $6 for children which you pay regardless of if or what you paint. The price you pay in addition to the studio fees vary based on what you choose to paint. Once you are finished they take your pottery and you can pick it up 5 days later when it is complete. read more

Went here on a rainy Saturday morning for a party for 5 year olds. Luckily these kiddos love to paint and create because that's what this place was all about. They had tables set up for the kids with the ability to draw all over the table cloth. The workers were helpful and patient. It was a fun, organized, morning. The price point was a little high for me, but other than that, I would go for a date activity, if that was my mood. This review is for the Maine branch in Portland: I honestly can't complain about the actual experience of the place, but when it comes to customer service - it was seriously lacking. The woman who was there on the day seemed to be in a dreadful mood, wasn't friendly at all and I felt uncomfortable to ask for help. Then, there was a mess up with our order as we had chosen (and paid $25 extra) to ship it to another city. Instead of the company taking ownership, they passed blame and also hang up the phone on us. This is no way to treat paying customers! I've been left super disappointed and felt we were ripped off for what we got. I've emailed multiple times asking to speak to the manager and my messages have been ignored. Avoid this place if you actually care about good service. read more

Staff was very brusque, and rude, the girl who greeted us told us we should probably not do anything today becase they closed in two hours and most people "needed longer" however that isn't the case, it's actually much cheaper to come two hours before closing 2$ per person I instead of 8$. Nothing was explained to us, the only time she checked in was to collect the prices of our items. The staff grumbled about the next 4 people coming in "late" the entire time we were there and that didn't make us feel welcome or wanted (we also finished our pieces in about an hour and 15 minutes so we had plenty of time! When she charged us, she charged full price instead of the discounted studio price, so an additional 24$. Besides the terrible staff, honestly wasn't impressed with the options. I've been to 3 paint your own pottery studios and the others had different glazes, different colors and MORE colors, lower prices (no studio fees) as well as here you have to pay for parking! Wouldn't recommend this place. Go somewhere pleasant and relaxing where the staff is happy to assist and help you instead of trying to rush you out the door and just take your money. read more

This place is so cute and definitely not just for kids!! My friend and I are very into arts & crafts and I will bashfully admit we spent 3 hours painting our pottery pieces. And yes, we might be a little bit of perfectionists . The one staff member working was very helpful with painting advice and offered many ideas for different techniques with the various tools available. Although I adore this place, I am unable to give 5 stars due to the pretty weak selection of pottery compared to other places I have been out of state. I will ultimately be forgiving of this though because the staff member was restocking as we started painting and a delivery man arrived with numerous shipment boxes as we left. Overall, I'm really looking forward to coming back and painting some more pieces! And because of the convenient location at Thompson's Point, it's probably not a bad idea to conjoin a painting date with a Bissell Brothers Brewing Co. or Cellardoor Winery excursion... Awesome idea, great space, & lots of ceramics from which to choose. We had a big group with kid ages from 2 - 11, and everyone was entertained for a good hour. (We had 2 parents on the youngest ones.). We made reservations for the 7 kids, & they tucked us behind a wall, which was perfect. There was only one staff person, all of us, & 4 other small parties, & it seemed like it was a lot for the staff person to handle. The prices were excellent.
