The set-up…read moreis so cool, with intercom systems in the helmets, so the instructors can give you step-by-step instructions and tips while you're on the water. Of all the water sports I've tried and taught others to do, this one was the easiest to get the basic skills down. Each one of us were standing on the board within the first 5 minutes. Now, mastering getting up on the foil and maintaining balance took quite a bit longer, which is why I came back the next day. By the end of the second day session, with no further instruction and on a smaller board, I could jump right up on the board and smoothly get up on the foil, stay there a bit and then control it back down without crashing (most of the time). I'm saying all this to give everyone the idea that YOU CAN DO IT! We had 8 of us over 2 days sharing 2 boards (don't worry, you need breaks anyways every 20-30 minutes when you're learning). Some of us tired out quicker, but every one of us gained a comfort with getting up on the board, getting up on the foil and then back down. It's so amazing! It feels like flying when you get up on the foil!

In 3rd grade our son was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyscalculia. We lived in an area that did not…read morehave services to remediate his learning challenges and as parents we felt hopelessly lost. Through research, interviews with staff and families that attended TLS, and a very brief visit, we immediately knew this was going to be just what our son needed. We came here with the intention of staying only 2 years, however the school provided such a rich learning and supportive community for both our son and us, that we decided to stay at the school through 8th grade and then attend a local high school. The staff and students became family. The staff at Liberty was amazing. What they do, they do not do in a bubble. Families are a part of the process and are kept informed of the educational goals, processes, and progress. The doors are always open to speak with the Head of School, teachers, and tutors. Families are encouraged to get involved and the school provides quite a bit of training and education to families so they can best understand their child's learning challenges and strengths. Success story: Success can be measured in so many ways, for our son it was developing self confidence and an absolute LOVE of learning. After attending Liberty for 5 years, he was incredibly successful in High School, understanding how to use his strengths and advocate for himself. He developed an incredible love of reading and writing. In his first year of college, he is transferring those skills learned at Liberty, and honed in High School with grace. We feel blessed to have found this little school in the beautiful mountain town of Durango, Co. The area is rich with southwestern culture and TLS brings that richness to the forefront of its learning. Students explore the rich traditions, history, and heritage of the area and use the surrounding mountains as a place for students to connect with nature, its people, and its history.

The Liberty School helped me tremendously as a child. I had always struggled with reading and…read morewriting and had to attend extra intervention classes throughout my elementary school years. It always made me feel different from the other kids, like I didn't quite belong. One day, my mom told me we were moving to Durango, Colorado, so I could attend the Liberty School, a school that specialized in teaching kids with dyslexia. I was so nervous and scared. I thought I was going to be "that kid" who couldn't read and had to take additional classes in a completely different part of the building. It was anything but that. The Liberty School was -- and still is -- one of the most inviting and supportive environments a child could ever experience. From day one, I could tell it was going to be different. Instead of being the kid with a learning disability who couldn't read or write, I was just a kid. Everyone there understood me. No one made fun of me, and no one made me feel out of place. I made many new friends (most of whom I am still close with today). Liberty taught me not only how my brain works and why I learn differently, but also that it's okay to take a little longer to figure things out. That lesson alone changed my confidence completely. One of the biggest things Liberty did for me was introduce me to the world of film. There, I learned how to write, shoot, and edit my very first short film with my friends. Because Liberty sparked my newfound passion for film and video production, I now own a production company and have had the opportunity to work on Hollywood films -- doing something I love every single day. Overall, my experience at the Liberty School was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Not only did I discover a passion that shaped my career, but I also learned an even more important lesson: just because your brain works a little differently doesn't mean you can't accomplish anything you set your mind to.

I knew people staying in dingy hotel rooms offered by the college. If you do happen to get housing on campus it will be far from consistent. I've had to move 3 times around campus even though I've applied early for the next term for the same hall. I've vocalized this concern to be left with a "well that's just not how it works" Also strange penalties on your student account will cause extra payments. I've always been on time with payments and paid a lot of weird late fees anyway.
