If I could rate this lower than one star I would. I was a customer here for a long time and paid my bill on time every month. I had never had any problems with this office or State Farm until October. Last October someone backed into the passenger side door of my car. It was a teenager who didn't have proof of insurance with him, and as this had never happened to me before I was unsure of what to do. I filled a claim and was told by the claim department to wait until I heard back from them and that I should not try to contact the person who hit me. It is now March and my car is still not fixed. I called in a few weeks ago because my bill had went up and I wasn't sure if it was due to the claim. I told them that it didn't seem fair to charge me for a claim I had filled if my car was still not fixed, but they told me that it was just a policy increase. I called in on a separate occasion because I had my identity stolen which meant I had to gt a new debit card. Since that happened they could not automatically take my payment. I called in and gave them the payment information and they said I was good to go. Apparently that was wrong because Colt said the payment was never processed. I was really bothered by the policy increase so I called and asked only to speak to Colt. He returned my call the following day and we discussed the concerns I was having. After about 15 minutes talking about the rate increase and the fact that the claim department had dropped the ball he told me that I was in fact no longer insured with State Farm and that I apparently hadn't been insured for almost two months. When I asked why I wasn't notified he told me they sent a letter out notifying me. I asked why no one would have called me and he said that they have too many customers to notify that way. I told him I did not think that was the case because I work for a company that has thousands of members that we call individually multiple times a year. I would also like to note that when I requested a quote through other agencies people called me immediately which shows me priority is placed on new customers over long term customers. I began crying on the phone because I was overwhelmed by the fact that I had been driving illegally in a damaged car without knowing that I was not insured. When I asked how this happened (while in tears) Colt said, "We cant babysit everyone." I don't know what made him feel that it is OK to tell a woman who is clearly distressed that he is not her babysitter. I told him that I did not feel safe with his company anymore and that I would be taking my business elsewhere. Colt then tried to scare me into buying insurance again saying that if I were to get in an accident I could be fined and charged for not having insurance. He seemed to have missed that fact that I had been driving uninsured without knowing for almost two months already. The thing that bothers me most is that I had called them at least twice since the failed payment and not one person mentioned to me that I was late on a bill that I had paid on time for years previously. I completely understand that if a bill is unpaid that the insurance should be cancelled, but had I known it wasn't paid I would have paid it. The level of unprofessionalism displayed by this company has astounded me and I will never do business with them again. Lastly, my rate was incredibly high because I had reported that I had two speeding tickets on my record. When I switched to a new insurance agency they found that the tickets are no longer on my record. I was a customer with State Farm for a long time and they never even bothered to check that in order to lower my rate. This shows me they clearly did not care about me or my needs. read more
