My family and I hired Defoore to handle some legal issues. He quoted us a total fee, with half that…read moreamount as his retainer. He said if our original petition was accepted, the retainer was all we would pay. During our initial consultation Defoore all but promised to work magic with our case. The only magic he worked was his disappearing act after he got our money. When several months went by without any progress report on our case we tried to get in contact with him for an update. Getting any kind of response from him proved to be almost impossible. When he finally talked to us he flat-out lied, claiming our petition was denied. He was also rude and dismissive, as if we were bothering him by asking questions. We fired Defoore and hired a very competent attorney to clean up his mess. The new attorney discovered our petition was never filed. At best, if Defoore just 'overlooked' filing the petition then he is incompetent. At worst, if he intentionally did not file our petition then lied, claiming it was denied, so he could charge us double what we had already paid then he is highly unethical and, in my feeling, bordering on criminal. I DO NOT recommend hiring Defoore for any important matters. I only gave him one star because negative stars are not an option.

During the stop, the officer was asking him questions about transporting illegal drugs from Colorado. Why? No one knows given the stop was for a brake light. He was detained an unreasonable amount of time for a drug dog to show up on the scene, without legal cause. Todd jumped on this fact very quickly. He researched the evidence collected by the District Attorney, including the dash camera video in the officer's car, and used it to have any and all of the evidence thrown out due to an illegal search of the car. The case was dismissed. Todd was very professional, did his research, understood the case and selected the appropriate defensive strategy. During the trail, Todd was very cool and collected. He performed cross examinations of the arresting officer. He guided the responses to match his defensive strategy, leading the officer to admit the delay was due to a hunch (hunches are not a legal reason to detain a person stopped for an unrelated offense). This entire process was very impressive. Todd's office responded quickly to all my requests, via phone or email. This was all accomplished for a reasonable fee.
