I walked a block to the courthouse and scanned in by the Officers. I went to the Jury room and was told to sit down and wait for the check in process. Finally we were told to line up, check in with the lady and then proceed to a check in kiosk. There was an employee at each kiosk to assist. Perfect! I was glad she was there to help me. My name did not show up. So, we used my case number and did an easy check in. Then we all waited for the instructions. The young lady speaking over a microphone was so soft spoken and did not enunciate her words properly-no one hear her! But, then I heard my name-I went up to her desk and my Lawyer was already up there. He had taken care of everything and I was excused. I don't know if I have to rerun or not. I will be notified if I have another date set or not. I'm Pros:very organized and plenty of Police and Bailiffs to help. Things moved pretty fast. Cons: they need to have someone who can speak louder when calling the names of the people. They state they will only call your name once. If you don't hear her, you're screwed! So SPEAK IP! Listen well. Ignore all of the chatter around you. Recommend:this place is necessary for all legal purposes. Fact: this courthouse is very nice, but huge! It takes up two or more city blocks.

It is the sixth-most populous county in Florida after Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Hillsborough and Orange. Jacksonville has been the county seat ever since. The present courthouse was completed in 2012, replacing the now demolished 1958 courthouse. The building faces south and is a seven story concrete, steel and glass structure. The south front has a projecting two story center section with columns rising to a pediment. It is a massive structure that contains 51 courtrooms which includes the County Circuit Court of the 4th Judicial District and County Court. The massive size definitely projects the power of the judiciary in Northeast Florida. There is street parking around the area, both metered and paid lots. Alachua County was formed in 1824 from the Timucan word meaning "sinkhole." Gainesville has been…read morethe county seat since 1854. This courthouse is located on a prime city block in downtown Gainesville, surrounded by retail and restaurants and an open square that seems to be used occasionally for music festivals or farmers markets. The structure is an Art Deco / Modern style that is four stories of concrete and glass. Because of the nearby buildings and massive trees next to it, it's challenging to get far enough away to get a proper photograph. But it's in mostly good condition considering the Florida weather. It could use a good pressure cleaning of the exterior. The marker nearby reads, "The Alachua County Commission, by authority of the Florida Legislature, selected this site for a courthouse in 1854, moving the county seat from Newnansville. The first courthouse was a frame building completed in 1856. It was demolished on the completion of a red brick courthouse in 1886. The current building, completed in 1958, and its 1962 addition, were erected in response to the continuing expansion of governmental needs in Alachua County." The location in downtown Gainesville is nice, it's close to the park and parking is pretty decent, there is parking all the way around the block for two hours or less for free and if you need more Parking than that you can park across the street in the pay lot. There is free Wi-Fi sponsored by the city in the area. I would not suggest filing a lawsuit to go experience this courthouse, however if you got to come here it's a decent place to go.

This particular courthouse has some age on it so there's a lot of nice woodwork and the court rooms have that old courthouse feel to them which is pleasant. I had the opportunity to need to visit the family law clerk which I did and she was ever so helpful. She had my paper filed and beautiful online within a few minutes which is unheard of. Keep in mind when filing papers that this particular courthouse doesn't want to take signatures by e-filing even though the statute requires it so you have to mail anything that is a notarized signature and then they file it so sometimes it's easier just to drive down there and give it to the clerk. All in all, nice people, nice facilities, and a thoroughly pleasant experience start to finish.

The marker nearby reads, "The 1891 Nassau County Courthouse is one of only a few remaining courthouses in Florida built in the late 19th century. An excellent example of the Italianate style, it features a square domed tower with cupola, brick corbelling, bracketed cornice, brick pilasters, arched windows, granite sills, and arcaded entrances with cast iron columns. Its architect, A.E. McClure, was from Jacksonville, but designed notable buildings throughout Florida, including the Lake City Agricultural College, forerunner of the University of Florida. The building's cornerstone was inscribed with the date 1891 and was scheduled to be laid on December 16 of that year, but the ceremony was delayed until April 12, 1892. Renovations to the courthouse include the 1926 addition of a vault for the recording office and a bell that was cast by Meneely & Co. of West Troy, New York. The bell served as part of the city's fire alarm until the mid-1930s. The clock was added to the bell tower in 1977. The courthouse is the tallest building in the Fernandina Beach Historic District and has served the county's judicial and governmental needs since its construction." There is street parking for you to stop so that you can admire this fantastic building. [Review 19328 overall - 1673 in Florida - 298 of 2023.]
