If you attend a community event, be sure to also check out the exhibits or follow The Lux online--they feature some truly powerful artwork that's absolutely worth seeing. I also love learning about their artists-in-residence and really appreciate their commitment to diversity and inclusion. A friend gifted my young son a pottery class, and he absolutely loved it. I'd love to attend more classes or the day camps, but they are a bit pricier than other options, so we haven't yet. The Lux truly has a heart for engaging children in the arts. I was immediately struck by the multiple pottery wheels when I walked in - the perfect place to have a pottery party or take a class and get your hands dirty! I was amazed by the students' creations ready to be fired and the shelves of already-finished works of art. Complimentary coffee and tea were a fantastic, completing touch. The only downside was that I didn't have time to sit at a wheel myself and spin a creation of my own - I'll be back!

We stopped to get passport stamps and met one of the gallery's artists, Tori Denae. Tall ceilings, great natural light and neutral paint allow the artwork to shine in this gem of a gallery! Artists take turns working in the gallery that features local artists. Weavings, photography, pottery, stained glass and water colors fill the walls and flat spaces in the gallery. I found a matted watercolor of a windmill priced under $25 and was given the opportunity to select another art piece as a bonus with my purchase! We parked right outside the gallery and one of the locals encouraged us to explore the town square and ice cream shop. Community pride in alive and well in Aurora, Nebraska and the Cottonwood Gallery gives them one more reason to be proud!

A converted chicken coop serves as a working potters studio and gallery with bowls, plates, mugs and various flower vessels available for sale. I purchased two unique glazed mugs for $28. The painters gallery featured abstracts, scenic water colors and acrylics in a variety of sizes. Our tour guide shared that many pieces of artwork are available for sale on their web site and custom pieces are also an option. We explored the flower gardens and enjoyed the park like setting around the "coop" and main gallery. Our visit was intentional as a stop on the Nebraska Passport Program and we enjoyed our brief encounter. If in the northeast area of Nebraska near the communities of Macy or Wayne, stop by and enjoy the views...both in the gallery and in the garden.

Who knew my favorite children's museum so far would be in a small town in Nebraska. I guess I have…read moremy husband's obsession with morel mushrooms for helping me find this gem It's only been around for a little over a year and it's the cleanest and most modern I have ever seen any museum and at one point we were the only family there on a Sunday for a solid hour or more. It's also small that you don't end up dying there but still packs a punch and not so big that you can prob feel safe letting your older ish kids out of your sight a bit and not worry too much about them getting in danger. I actually don't like to let ppl know about special finds like this as I worry it will become too popular but the distance will prob keep us from visiting too often or at least for a while. The staff is incredibly nice , welcoming , friendly and helpful and if you have a membership to the Omaha children's museum or probably any children's museum you can either most likely get in free or at a discount. Otherwise I believe it was $14 for each person which then can also be turned into a traveling membership too. Also even the playground on the outside is pretty incredible and that one is just free to use for the public.
