The Speculoos cheesecake was lacking in Speculoos taste, but it was rich and a satisfying dessert. The real star was the chai latte milkshake, which was perfect for a hot summer's day. Prices are a tad high, but otherwise solid for drinks to-go.

The cafe is beautifully decorated and pastries impeccably displayed. Pastry prices average roughly 5 euros each and portions are small but I'm sure they're worth it. The lattes however are way overpriced for such a small portion at just under 5 euros, much higher than many of the cafes in Avignon. The service is where I leave this place only two stars. The blonde woman who served us was extremely dismissive, and yes my french isn't great, however she seemed to make an effort to show she had zero idea of what I was saying. I ordered a second cup of overpriced latte, where we resorted to pointing to my current cup and saying one more. What annoyed me was the two older ladies sitting next to us had ordered coffee after us but was served before us even having us wait a bit longer. The woman didn't seem to care that we were there, wasn't friendly and we seemed to be an inconvenience to her day. I will obviously kick this place off my list of places to frequent to which I'm sure they'll be glad about. If you want great coffee at reasonable rates and welcoming atmosphere, visit Françoise near Place Pie. A large latte is only 3.30 euros.

The soupe du marche change weekly. Ours was a hearty carrot lentil with a hint of ginger. The portion was ample and the soup served piping hot from a cauldron. On a lark we ordered a trio of "half" sandwiches. They were huge!! We were served a smoked salmon goat cheese sandwich, a duck confit with cornichon and a chicken salad sandwich on a bed of fresh greens with balsamic sauce and several slices of Parma ham. The duck confit was thinly applied, rich and bacony. I loved the flavor and the portion was perfect. The chicken salad had cubes of chicken breast in a light mayo sauce with veggies cut in. Very tasty. The salmon was generous in portion with a lovely appearance. Of course the star of the show was the sturdy brown bread that carried the ingredients. I tried other breads around town and have yet to be disappointed with any. The service was excellent and our waiter friendly and helpful in English. I truly enjoyed this rustic gem and plan to return again while in Avignon.

We saw a little sign by the Hôtel Mignon advertising Café Mignon. There are a few tables inside, but the place to go on a warm summer morning is around the corner, where there are three little tables in the shaded alley. There were a mother and daughter (I'm guessing) working there. The daughter speaks amazingly good English, and she was the main person we worked with. They offer a complete brunch for €12. This includes salad (lettuce and tomato) with ham and cheese, an egg, a bowl of fruit (apricots were in season), homemade applesauce or yogurt (your choice), pastries, bread and jam. Oh, and also fruit juice and a hot drink (coffee, tea, chocolate). For twelve euros! This was amazing. All of the food was delicious. The atmosphere was perfect - quiet and cool and out of the way. The people were so friendly, and from the way she talked I think the daughter made the applesauce and yogurt herself and was pleased to see us enjoying them so much. We have one more day coming up in Avignon, and I am very tempted to return to Café Mignon. What a lovely place! It lives up to its name.
