My first mistake was agreeing to an in store credit card to save on a purchase. Ive done this before with GAP and other big retailers. My usual go to move is to pay off the balance immediately and canceled the card after payment. Ive been told its bad for your credit score to do this all the time, opening and closing credit accounts, which is why this time after shopping at Eddie Bauer, I did not cancel the in store credit card after I paid the balance and put the card in a drawer with the intention of never using it. Fast forward 4 months and my phone blows up with collections calls for $100?! No sir. I looked up my account through Comenity Bank online and there was a $1000 balance with five unauthorized transactions. I live in Oregon and all these transactions took place in Ohio... I got someone at Comenity on the phone relatively quick, that number was (888) 724.6667 at the time this review was posted. Deloris in account services assured me they would: -Initiate a fraud investigation -Cancel the card -Issue a new card -Adjust my account balance AND corresponding interest and late fee charges within 7-10 biz days. I am please so far with how Deloris from Account services, handled things over the phone, time will tell if they follow through. It sounds like they are legit and they will adjust my account, but I am not at all happy with the obvious security problems I experienced with this bank less than 6 months of using their product. As soon as I see a $0 balance and they scrub my account clean of this bullcrap, I will cancel this card and most likely never associate with Comenity bank in the future. read more

Despite making our payments ahead of the due date, we were still assessed substantial late fees, which was both frustrating and difficult to understand. In our experience, it provided little meaningful benefit while adding unnecessary costs. i have had the aaa Visa card For sometime. Never missed a payment never carried A balance. I used my card with company online. The next thing I know I get hit with close 8k fraudulent charges. I place a claim with cc company. it took nearly 90 days never once did they reach out to me. I had to call and keep checking status. finally they stated I was at fault because I used my card with retailer. not only that they canceled my account. when I called in to speak to supervisor. I was disconnected. I closed this card out last month but somehow owe two months late and interest which equals over $109 I have a friend that manages an ultra store, she told me to get rid of the card as soon as possible because of their business practices. I also have a Sephora card that is issued by Comenity Bank. That will also be close as soon as it shows that the three dollars that I owe them is paid off don't think just because your card is closed you won't be getting more charges because you most likely will. read more

I liked being pre-approved for a FORD credit card. After completing the request I received a denial letter saying that my credit was questionable. I had a Ford card before and they had an excellent program which a few years later has become available again. When I contacted them by phone they sent me my full credit report from Equifax. My score is 791. Now do you really want to do business with a bank that denies folks with scores this high? It was a big letdown as I wanted back in the Ford credit card program again. But as a Combat Vet with 3 tours in Nam and retired military it sticks hard in my craw that we can be treated like this. I want to share my concerns regarding the quality of Comenity bank service. The World Market Credit Card issued by Comenity, Bread Financial, is a flimsy plastic card without a built-in chip which prevented refund in the past, and the bank imposes a very early cut-off time of 2:00 PM PST on due dates. This often leads to an accumulation of late fees and interest if a customer is unaware of the policy and thought the balance had been paid off on the due date. Additionally, I have found their customer service to be rigid and unprofessional. (Nicole, Comenity Bank) I strongly recommend reconsidering any credit card associated with this bank, as their service quality does not reflect well on any store brand. They will pretend to take your payment and then never update you that they don't accept that Bank (which everyone else accepts this Bank) and then when you go to make your payment 30 days later they will notify you that you now have a 30-day late and they have reported it to your credit. I called, spoke to a representative from over seas to please take off that charge. She agreed after going around on this. I closed the account after 2 weeks. I received the bill with added charges. I just closed my Saks card after nearly a decade of loyal spending because of the inexcusable, predatory experience with Comenity Bank--Saks' credit card issuer. For two weeks, I tried to set up my online account but kept getting system error messages caused by Comenity's own broken tech. Despite acknowledging the issue was on their end, they told me I'd still be charged $2.99 per month for paper statements unless I could log in and switch it off--which I literally couldn't. Their solution? Cancel the card. Let that sink in: long-time customer since 2014, high spender, can't use the website because of their glitch--and their only fix is to close my account to avoid fees. On top of that, Comenity charges up to 33% APR, which is pure usury. I will not support banks that exploit customers, or luxury retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue that align themselves with them. I paid off my Big Lots credit card several months ago. I paid the amount that the automated system I owed. Got rid of the card because the store went out of business. I am still getting bills for fees that are now well over $100. I called "customer service" and was escalated 4 times to someone who said that she was the final escalation and refused to help. I understand that if my final payment was late, there may have been a late fee added, but that was not reflected in the automated system. I am willing to pay that original late fee as I cannot confirm or deny it accuracy. They will not accept that and are continuing to add fees on top of fees. read more

I just had a terrible experience with a Comenity Bank Land's End Visa credit card account. I closed the account because of this and wouldn't recommend anyone to do business with them. Because I didn't receive my billing statemtent, I was one day late with my payment when I got an email from them telling me I had a payment due. I have been with Comenity for many years without a problem. My credit card is a Caesar's rewards card. I recently mailed my bill on February 2. The due date was the 19th. My next statement showed a late fee for a missed payment. The bill I mailed on the 2nd was not posted until the 21st. Coincidentally I mailed another bill the same day and it was posted four days later. I have always payed my bill on time and in full for the last 10+ years. I called and requested the late charge be reversed. Customer service said they can only refund $15.00. I questioned why it took 17 days for my bill to be posted and perhaps my bill sat on someone's desk and got posted late so I would have to pay a fee. The response was a "canned" answer and their only solution was to switch to auto pay. I believe they are trying to get people to switch to a payment method that is more convenient for them and making money in the meantime by charging unfair late fees. The customer service staff is difficult to understand at times due to a language barrier and this just adds to the frustration. The staff is just doing a job but the company practices seem a bit suspect. They have no concerns about affecting your credit rating negatively with no good reason and they do not seem to care about loyal and long term customers. I wrote a letter to their corporate office so we will see if there is any resolution. I don't want to impact my credit score negatively but I will not use this card unless necessary and will probably cancel it and replace with one that provides good customer service and does not feel like I'm being scammed. read more

UPDATE: Well, somehow Comenity has gotten even worse. Unrelated to my previous issue with them, it turns out they let card holders add other people to accounts with no verification by the newly added user. No social security, no signature, no verbal or written authorization LITERALLY NOTHING, and anyone can add you to an account and Comenity will refuse to remove you. "Only the account holder" can accomplish that. This should be illegal. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE COMENITY FOR ANYTHING. read more

Received Michael's credit card 3 months ago. Activated it 3 times. Went to make a purchase in January and credit card denied due to it needing to be activated. Activated it in December, so once it was activated I went to make a purchase for my St Patrick's Day party supplies, again it was denied, manager checked and was told it needed to be activated. I went home to activate again and this time the website told me my account was closed for inactivity. Must be a fly by night company. I have had an express comenity credit card since 2021 and I decided to apply for a Saks Mastercard on 4-22-2026. I was approved with a credit limit of $16,000 and I called to update the mailing address on my account. That is when I started having issues and was treated poorly with their account protection team. I had already emailed my drivers license and utility bill that verified my identity. The agents were unprofessional, rude, disrespectful, yelled at me, and hung up in my face. I called on 4-29-2026 to see if they received a bank statement with my updated address on it and they said that they closed my account. So I emailed the president and executive team to inform them of what had transpired. I received a call on 4-29-2026 from the fraud operations director Mr. Austin he said that he had my accounts re opened and they where never supposed to have been closed. He told me that several agents handled my accounts wrong and he apologized for how I was treated by the agents. I called to verify if both of my accounts where back open and saxs Mastercard customer service said there was a restriction on my account saying that I can't be serviced over the phone with a agent due to interactions with previous agents. So I emailed Mr. Austin and left him a voicemail on 4-30-2026 & 5-1-2026. He ignored my emails and never responded to me. So I googled the president Mr. Andretta information and found his phone numbers. I didn't know that the number I called was his cell phone number and he answered the phone and I asked if he was still the president. When he said yes I told him that I needed help with my Saks Mastercard account. He assured me that he would have someone reach out to me today to help me. I received a call not even a hour later from bread financials attorney named Mr. Miller he told me that he was calling to help me. I thought that it was wierd that their attorney called me and not a supervisor in customer service. He said that he would be contacting Saks Mastercard and tell them that the restriction need to be removed. I waited a few hours and called the customer service number from my work phone number and my accounts were closed AGAIN. I called the attorney back and he said the president was mad because I called his cellphone. So he had both of my accounts closed. This entire company is horrible and need to be closed down asap! I told the attorney I know that he lied about trying to help me and that I'm going to sue them for discriminatory acts per the fcra! I literally was reaching out to the president for HELP and he closed my accounts due to me calling his cellphone number today! All of their emails and phone numbers are in public records. ***This complaint was submitted to the BBB*** I only gave them a 1 because there was no negative numbers! On 11/30/2024 I made a purchase at the Jared Jewelry store locate in Albuquerque NM. Jared had 12 month free interest promotion through Comenity Bank. I set up the minimum payment of $62 plus an additional $347 to my monthly payment. This additional amount was calculated to pay off the balance well before the expiration date on December 01,2025. Without my authorization or notice Comenity unexplainably reduced my payment in August 2025 back down to the minimum due of $62 resulting in an interest accrued balance increase of $899. I have since paid off that balance however, Comenity has not addressed the complaint regarding why they reduced my payment amount without my authorization. When I asked them why I didn't get my statement they said it was switched to paperless. I never use paperless. With Sak's card they accept a return but don't credit my account until the day after the payment is due! This is called "kiting" my money! Terrible. I would give them a zero if I could. Had an Academy Sports and Outdoors credit card that I have found out they issue. Never sent me a bill. Tried to contact Academy to find out my balance with no avail. Sent in a payment but did not include their late fees. What started as a $50 purchase has grown to over $250 because of their late fees and other shady practices. Their reps are argumentative and tried to blame me for their ineptness. I was outraged by this and told him absolutely not! So I complained to the BBB and I already have a case on this. BBB did respond saying that Comenity would reach out to me directly as they didnt want to entertain my complaint via BBB. I was a cardholder of your Ulta Beauty Rewards Mastercard Credit Card and decided to pop into an Ulta store in Arizona yesterday evening while on vacation from Detroit to make a $500 purchase to learn that my credit card had been deactivated. I was told by their wonderful team that more info from me to approve due to an address change and my name change due to divorce. When I called your Customer Care team to provide them more information the call was dropped multiple times and the last woman I spoke to told me she couldn't help me because they needed me to read them a code off of a letter that would be sent to my house. She told me this after I provided her with my full name, my married name, Social Security number, both my current and previous address, phone number and email address AND read her the card number off my previous card. Keep in mind I was on vacation trying to make a purchase for items I needed on the vacation. I have perfect credit and am in a good financial position so this shouldn't have happened to me at all. It is astonishing to me that in 2025 you cannot verify my account information via phone with all the information I provided. I had received no communications from you that my account had been closed. This experience was so infuriating I had to leave the store without the items I needed, because even though I could've easily put it on another card, it was now a matter of principle not to make a $500 purchase that I wouldn't receive a discount or reward points on. Might I also mention happened the day before my birthday?!! They have terrible credit card customer service. First I couldn't understand anything the representative in India was saying. Then I got transferred to someone in the US who had an attitude. They called my phone number about 20 times before they actually left a message. Most people don't answer a call unless they recognize the phone number, so their calls without voicemails are useless and harassment. They do not confirm anything by email, which is the preferred method of communication for most people. They don't leave messages and don't email because they don't want you to have proof of anything that they say or that you've told them. read more
